This young man is going to be one of the greatest of his generation. His phrasing is outstanding. It doesn't seem to matter that the piece is technically difficult or challenging in some other way. The flight from the beginning of the phrase to the end of the phrase is natural and devoid of misguided attempts of musical punctuation. Moreover, the phrases are succinctly integrated throughout the whole piece. It was a pleasure to listen to him play.

I love this ARTIST !!! I can´t call him a guitarist because he is a real artist . Other worldly for me !! There are thousands of great boring academic note perfect guitarist these days that play every note the same color and with a very small dynamic range. Raphael makes a huge lingering musical impression regardless of the piece he plays !! This is a whole other level of music making. You can see how much every single not means to him!! So refreshing to listen to art on this level! Thank you Rafael ! I really look forward to following your career !!

Sor's main theme is very near to the classic, ancient (the renaissance age) "Folìa" one: maybe we're listening to different evolutions of the same idea ("tema di Corelli" e variazioni di S. Rachmaninov, Giuliani, Salieri and more)?
How he makes this instrument sing, a privilege to hear - and see. It doesn’t get better than this. Only one thing missing: a handkerchief to mop up the perspiration.
I could not listen to all of it but surely I have to say Bravo to this person for his skill however some classical music is so boring for normal people like me who do not know much about complex music.
Persian Bright You don’t need to “know” anything to enjoy classical music. It does take a longer period of concentration than we are used to these days. Most popular music is maybe 5 minutes. By making a start, you are doing well. And with RUclips and streaming, you can get used to listening for longer and longer periods of time.

How so? 1. Never start or end with a set piece in a competition. (Although this is played masterfully here) 2. They’re both based on La Folia so you wouldn’t start with the modern one and move to the older one. 3. The Dyens was the clear choice for a finale. 4. Bring your best repertoire. Unless you’re gonna change the program; this seems like a perfectly logical order.

If he just stops breathing heavily when playing😅
One of most musical performances I’ve heard in a guitar competition in a while. Excellent.
The man is a superstar. Now and for a long time coming
Maybe the most graceful player I’ve ever seen. Just an excellent player. Thank you for keeping the spirit of classical guitar alive.
Raphaël Feuillâtre = Finally Musicality takes first stage. About time. After an eon of just technique. 👍
I agree completely. This is a great blend of technique and musicality. This is what any performance should be like.
21:53 - one of the most beautiful passages I have ever heard.
He is the most beautiful thing I have seen in ages. I miss live music terribly.

Incroyable. Je crois qu’il est largement au dessus de la mêlée .

I think this guy just came up with the phenomenon of "blacksplaining" all by himself.
Absolutely mind blowing performance. Your music touches the soul.
At this contest he was only 22!
C’est trop beau !!
Merci pour le phrasé l’intelligence

Wow. Absolutely great performances
Playing music is a combination of technique and musicianship. A good musician achieves a balance.
I think Llobet named the piece’ “Variations on a theme by Sor” as a cheeky nod to Sor’s op. 9 being misnamed, “Variation on a Theme by Mozart”.
A unique artist with super technic and nuance.....i wish you health and much more success.
Powerful performance, simply the best!
Wonderful performance of the Brouwer Gran Sarabanda .

Brilliant performance! Who’s guitar is Raphael playing?
I’ve asked the same. His guitar has a great crystal clear sound.
@@rafungafunga Last time I checked he was using a 2012 Dominique Field spruce/CSA.

It wouldnt matter much.Last time I looked guitars couldnt play themselves.Any billions of fine guitars would be just fine in his capable hands.
great showmanship and musicianship. is Mr Raphael won any prize for this GFA 2018 competition? How much is the GFA Grand Prize worth?
He won 1st place! The prize is 10,000 in cash and 50 concerts around the US including Carnegie Hall, and other countries depending on the year
Misses a lot of natural harmonics.
This is loaded on in such a way that the volume is barely audible. Try again-

I gave you a dislike, but I actually agree with you. Nobody seems to care about classical guitar music. Its not popular, sadly.
Bad form putting the Llobet and the Brower on the same program right next to each other.
