Nowadays people dont have respect , love or kindness , christmas to some people nowadays is all about getting the most expensive things they can't afford and getting themselves into that much debt they can't afford too pay it off for the next christmas. Back in those days people where grateful for everything they got, they knew how too celebrate the true meaning of christmas , the birth of our Lord Jesus Christ. The breakdown of the family unit (dad and mom) along with parents that wanted to be friends with their kids' vs the parent has led to breakdown in society, lack of respect, a me, me, me time and have forgotten that as a whole we all play a part. Dad has the responsibility of leading family, mom has responsibility of managing home and keeping kids in order under Dads guidance. Yes, I am old school, and believe God has instructed His order to make our lives better and holy. 68 yrs old and all my life I was given 3 gifst for Christmas. One from parents, One from my siblings that 'drew' my name and one from Santa. All of my siblings have stuck to this for this kids and never use credit cards for gifts. This is Jesus' birthday celebration and we are so greedy we want the gifts to be given to us.
Twenty year-old boy here. I absolutely adore this kind of music, because I always imagine myslef sitting in a coffeeshop in New York, while it's dark, snowy wheather, simping hot chocolate and looking through the window. My hometown is Czech republic. I don't know if that is because I don't have many friends so I rather enjoy my time alone than smoking weed and making stupid jokes with some dudes next to, but I think spending time like that, listening to oldies (especially in holiday season), is priceless.

When I was young at 8 years old. I usually lived my maternal grandmother together. She was devout christian. Sometimes I remember that she gave me 20 cent every sunday in the church. and taught me hymn and Christmas song I became reached as your same age (50). Thanks my maternal grandmother. I hope every one this year for xmas gets a orange netted stocking with a big huge Santa face on it--- with a comic inside and candy hard boiled coloured pebles inside--- beats the modern day xmas stocking of today--- the oldern times every thing had real flavour --- simple things in life are often the best--- have a wonderfull xmas to every one and peace and togetherness is what it's all about--- gosh I'm off to knit some socks for xmas 🎄 gifts for every one--- oh grand par loves his poppy - oil---- I must not forget---
Helping my grandma who lived two houses away decorate her tree which she bought from the elms club every year, I remember throwing the tinsel on the tree, tinsel was made of lead back then, the lights were the large ones, c7 with the cloth wires, she also had bubble lights, they would get very hot.

Let’s just say I heard these very songs sitting on my daddy’s lap listening to them on our old standup radio. As a young child with thoughts of Santa filling my head, the tree wasn’t put up till Christmas Eve after we went to sleep. We were poor but in our stocking was special treats like an Orange, Apple, nuts of various kinds and of course the holiday favorite, a candy cane. I still remember that last Christmas before my daddy was killed in a coal mining accident when I was just 7 years old. Christmas was never the same after that and it’s 74 years later but I still have that special memory sitting on his lap singing, maybe that’s why tears are running down my cheeks. I keep Christmas at my grandparents' house with me. They were good people who always believed in family first. Their kids...are nothing but a bunch of bloodless narcissists who pick & choose. This time of year, I miss my cousins Adam & Jaclynn and my baby Red Doberman, Nicholas.
The music I heard at home as a child. Reminds me of the music on My Hit Parade, and also the Big Band music, my parents were so fond of. We didn't get our first TV set until 1952, when I was five years old. Before that we would gather around the huge radio. Lot of the same shows just transitioned from the one to the other, Ozzie and Harriet, the Lone Ranger, and the Hit Parade. Rock n Roll started pretty much the same time. I was sent to summer camp in 1953, with my sister, and the main thing I remember was the teenage camp counselors constantly played Rock around the Clock, to the point I memorized it, just from hearing it over and over. I had the original Gene Autry record of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer with Merry Texas Christmas You all, on the other side. It survived until the late 1980s.
I still have my orginal Gene Autry record of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. I have a autograph picture of him to. Back in the day when I bought it he charged 5.00 to do it . I sent away for it and I'm happy I did. MERRY CHRISTMAS

i couldnt place my finger on why older music sounds much warmer then todays music but i think i finaly figured it out,today you dont hear trumpets and flutes annymore and allot less drums,if you mix those into a song the song becomes much warmer and cheerfull.

The music I heard at home as a child. Reminds me of the music on My Hit Parade, and also the Big Band music, my parents were so fond of. We didn't get our first TV set until 1952, when I was five years old. Before that we would gather around the huge radio. Lot of the same shows just transitioned from the one to the other, Ozzie and Harriet, the Lone Ranger, and the Hit Parade. Rock n Roll started pretty much the same time. I was sent to summer camp in 1953, with my sister, and the main thing I remember was the teenage camp counselors constantly played Rock around the Clock, to the point I memorized it, just from hearing it over and over. I had the original Gene Autry record of Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer with Merry Texas Christmas You all, on the other side. It survived until the late 1980s.
I still have my orginal Gene Autry record of Rudolph the Red Nose Reindeer. I have a autograph picture of him to. Back in the day when I bought it he charged 5.00 to do it . I sent away for it and I'm happy I did. MERRY CHRISTMAS

Even non religious people celebrate Christmas, its become such an instilled global tradition and im genuinely thankful it has.

i couldnt place my finger on why older music sounds much warmer then todays music but i think i finaly figured it out,today you dont hear trumpets and flutes annymore and allot less drums,if you mix those into a song the song becomes much warmer and cheerfull.

When very yong life was not without it's challenges but these songs were a great escape. It was much easier to cope without 24/7 news telling who was dieing etc.

Those were good times in the fifties. Safe times. Neighbors celebrated Christmas with each other, and their children ran across the street on Christmas morning to see what their friends got for Christmas!
