Social media, crowdsourcing and disasters affecting cultural heritage

Using social media and crowdsourcing in a disaster context can be a challenging task. If used timely, they can increase awareness of the situation, facilitate coordinated response and reduce the time lag between disaster and action. This talk will address three questions: How do people respond to cultural heritage affected during disasters on social media? How can we efficiently analyse information posted on social media? What can we learn from crowdsourcing initiatives to rescue heritage after a disaster?
About the Speaker
Pakhee is a conservation architect with more than 10 years of experience in heritage conservation and management. She has worked with many interdisciplinary, international teams and challenging projects in India, the UK, Italy and Denmark in her profession and academic work. Her goal is to reshape the heritage practices using present day technologies to increase the efficiency of the professionals. Her research interests are crowdsourcing, social media, disaster management, and artificial intelligence in cultural heritage.
