Go "Chin" Go! Thanks for the review, I just ordered a split keyboard and I'm considering putting a trackball mouse between them! Not to dig too deep, but if "Chin" is Hakka-Chinese, then hello fam! If not, then love anyway :) Have a great day!
The lack of a storage bay for the USB receiver is quite problematic. When I travel. I am constantly misplacing it and there is a constant worry of losing it. Using Bluetooth is not an option because I have it paired to a second computer, so that I can use the mouse for both.
The MX Ergo does allow Bluetooth pairing to 2 devices, so I think you should be fine. Unless you need more devices paired. I have mine paired between my Windows 11 laptop and my OSX desktop with Bluetooth, I forgot about the option for a unifying adapter.
@@Landrew0 Sure, I understand that. It is an oversight i see in many mouse makers that have the USB receivers. I suppose the only plus side for Logitech is a new unifying receiver is easy to purchase if lost, unlike many other manufacturers'.
Have you been using it all this time? Still happy? There is much that I could say about my love for the m570. The ONLY drawback, for me, is the build quality. Now, if I left it and used it on a desk or workstation, my gripe would be moot, however, My M570 sits on the arm of my recliner and many times, way too often, the thing falls off the chair arm 2 feet to the floor! The M570 is in No way built to be impact resistant! Over time, all those drops to the floor take their toll and cause button and other issues and the mouse becomes unusable. I've purchased 3 over the last few years. What I really need to know, before I buy and try the new ergo, is "Will it handle those impacts?" Thanks and you did an awesome job on your review!
Can you navigate the screen, highlight text, etc. just as easily with the trackball mouse versus The standard mouse? Are you as productive with the trackball mouse?
I'm very productive with this mouse. I work in Visual Studio, Visual Studio Code, and Office with this mouse. The only things I don't use this mouse for are 3D Studio Max and gaming.
Dower Chin awesome! I’m a front end developer as well and have been working mainly off of my 13” MacBook in VS Code. I just ordered this mouse along with a new keyboard and ultra wide monitor hoping to increase productivity. Thanks for the thorough review and prompt feedback!
I just bought this mouse last week and finding I'm adapting to it amazingly fast for it being my first trackball mouse. I wouldn't see how the bottom would rub off since the mouse never moves
I hooked mine up to bluetooth first on my 2018 imac 27" and I turned on Flow, which would run the cursor over to my 27" imac 2010. And it worked fine, but it wouldn't drag anything from one computer to the other. After a lot of tries to drag stuff from one computer to the other with no results, I turned off Flow. On my my newest iMac I was experiencing some lag, like momentary loss of bluetooth. It was getting quite aggravating at times, so I disconnected from bluetooth and installed the USB receiver and connected to that. That solved the problem. It's been very smooth now which it wasn't on bluetooth.
Nice video, my Mx Ergo plus cursor just started lagging out of the blue on the screen. I cannot figure out what's wrong. I made sure the precision button was turned off. Have charged the battery full. I have popped the ball out & cleaned it. I have went into setting & moved trackball speed around. The sad thing is, it's only 2 1/2 weeks old. I'm using it on a Macbook pro. Have you experience anything like that with your Mx Ergo?
I haven't seen an issue like that. I have 2 of these and both work fine. The only other suggestion I can make is un-pair the mouse and re-pair it and see if that fixes it.
The work around fix that I found for my issue is. I went into my MacBook pro's System Preference Click on the Mouse icon. Unchecked the Scroll Direction, problem solved. Hopefully this can help anyone else out that might run into the same problem.
Just don´t use MX ergo, period. Until I find out how to connect my mouse to my keyboard, nobody should use MX Ergo at all. Especially not people who are involved in office jobs.
I am changing my past review of this mouse. This is the single most powerful trackball mouse I have ever experienced. Am quite happy with its ability to connect instantly and scroll down pages and place the pointer wherever it is needed. Managed to find a way to resurrect its trackball once the trackball had died. The mouse sits next to my old Logitech mouse. Both mice are used simultaneously. If I need to use the keyboard to switch, I use the old one...
Wow, I'm sorry to hear you had such trouble with it. I own 2 of these and have no issues. I don't represent Logitech in any way, so my only suggestion would be to talk to their support staff, since it sounds like you must have a defective unit. I would try to get a warranty replacement from them.
@@dowerchin I fixed the problem with the mouse by taking it to my friend and letting him connect it to his computer. That way we were able to demonstrate it can in fact connect to keyboards. I haven´t found out how to make it connect to mine though. Eventually will. So both the old and te new mouse are used now, with no problem.
Actually. I just got my Ergo today and I'd love to have this riser thing coming with my ergo, but it wasn't. Nothing in the package besides the ergo, the metal plate and the unifying connector. Did Logitech change something about the delivery contents since 2019 to 2020?
Hi, nice review! I'm trying to decide between this and the vertical one and the main reason is that im not sure yet how effective and accurate is the trackball. Can you point accurate small buttons in the screen? Don't you get pain on your thumb because of moving it a lot? Do you think it will work for drawing programs like AutoCAD or Revit? Thanks a lot.
I mainly use this mouse for everyday use for programming and office work. For CAD, it's a little harder for me, so I go back to a normal mouse with a middle button (like the CadMouse) or a scoll wheel that can be my middle button. There is a precision mode which slows down the mouse pointer which can help with fine tasks, but I never quite got used to using that feature. That said, this is my favorite mouse, and at first, I thought my thumb would get tired, but that really isn't the case. I did try a vertical mouse, not the Logitech, but an Anker, and I really didn't like it, It was actually harder for me to use. One thing to note, the rollers on the inside of the ball area will get gunked up with stuff over time, and you will notice the ball not rolling smoothly (feels like it's dragging), that's when you'll need to pop the ball out and get the junk off the small rollers.
I have been using a thumb trackball for over 20 years and I love it and even have a backup in case the one I am using dies. I have used it for everything and have no trouble using it on small buttons.
Sorry for the bad angle. The plate just sits on the table, and the entire mouse stays in place. The ball is what your thumb moves around. The plate can allow the entire mouse to tilt from a flat configuration to an angled one. If that's not comfortable enough and you need the ball higher, you can use the included riser.
@@charlesjordan9591 The MX Ergo is a great mouse. I originally wasn't sure if I should dive back into a trackball, but touchpad mice and the larger Kennsington Trackballs just weren't enough, the MX Ergo has been great for me.
I can't for the life of me understand why trackballs aren't more popular. Perfect for small spaces (I live in NYC so yeah, small, LOL). I've been using trackballs exclusively for many many years. I guess they suck for video games? I don't play them so I wouldn't know.
Simple. Many of them fail to connect to keyboards. Its why people rely more on advanced mice. Sure nobody denies the fact that there are reliable trackballs out there. They are hard to find and it is only a matter of time before you find one. Most have keyboard connectivity and some can be used for well over a decade depending on the seller´s interest in quality marketing. MX Ergo simply failed its customers. Plain and simple.
I've been using a trackball mouse exclusively now for years and years. Tried a lot of them, Kensingtons (Orbit, Expert, Slimblade), Elecom and CST (now X-Keys) L-Trac and I can hands down say the best in terms of fit and smoothness of the ball IMHO is the CST L-Trac. Hands down the best trackball I've ever used. The only one slight criticism is that the ball is slightly a bit too heavy - however the "glow" series with an illuminated trackball, has a ball weighted at 25% lighter than the original. I used this for a while at work and realised I wanted the same at home, there's a place in the UK sells the replacement balls for £14.99. I swapped it out for the lighter one and it's now perfect. I've never used any input device as good as this. It doesn't use the horrible ruby bearings most of the other balls have, it runs on proper polished steel rollers but the tracking is by laser. I used it for work, home and gaming. Superb device, Can't recommend it enough.
Hi Dower, I am looking for a new trackball and it's a toss between this one and the Kensington expert trackball. My question is how many times do you have to move your thumb to go from corner to corner using the logictech with the smaller ball?
I own both the Kensigton Trackball and the Ergo MX, and I really prefer the Ergo MX. Depending on how fast you flick the ball, it can be two or three to go across the screen, but you can always tweak the sensitivity. I use the Ergo MX everyday for my programming tasks, and I move my mouse pointer across 3 screens as I work. I find the Ergomonics to be better, less movement of my hand.
Too bad they don't make a bigger version with more buttons. I love my M570, but teh need for a larger track ball has forced me to the Elecon HUGE. Not a huge (pun intended) of the trackball location, but if I can;t have the features I need I may as well keep my trusty M570.
Rather keep it, what most these reviewers forget to mention is that the ergo is a mission to clean. They made the ball removal hole way too small. So you always have to go find some like a pen... Which can poke and leave dents on the ball. I have 4 m570s and hate the ergo I bought. So frustrating to clean.
I'd give the ergo 1/10 for how stupidly small the cleaning hole is. No one uses pens anymore. You should be able to use a finger. What a silly, dumb oversight. I hate my mx ergo. As is trackballs must be cleaned often. Fine. But then why make it a mission to remove the ball?!
Have to say that this is literally the best extensive review of the mx ergo. Fantastic job Dower! Loved it so much! Very helpful !
