  • A few weeks ago, Richard and I set off to Vermont to visit family and friends. Along the way, we did a few hikes, celebrated the winter solstice, and saw the new Star Wars movie. In this video, you'll see clips from our scenic drive and our hike up Deer Leap.
Deer Leap is a mountain with prominent views of Pico Ski Mountain and the Green Mountains. It is a short, family-friendly, hike coming out to only about 2 miles. The overlook is, atop stunning cliffs and is not technically the summit. In the winter, micro-spikes were essential! There were a lot of icey areas where the spikes came in handy. In the warmer months, the trail has a lot of rocks and roots to maneuver.
Have you ever celebrated the winter solstice? I tend to get SAD (Seasonal Affective Disorder) in the winter and this celebration really helps lift my spirits. We read poems around a massive bonfire and lit candles that represented our hopes for the new year. What do you do to celebrate the winter solstice?

Beautiful scenery. I live in Texas so I haven't seen snow since we went to Colorado two years ago. I've never heard of snow fleas yuck!

Wow what a big move! Glad we can give you a taste of snow without you having to shovel it or be cold! Snow fleas are harmless, they aren’t fleas at all actually but people call them that. Thank you for watching!

cool video, BUT man you jump all over rutland county in this video
you are by the trestle in cuttingsville on rt103 and then show the swinging bridge in clarendon back to cuttingsville
again you are at the trail head by Pico but start climbing right behind the inn at the long trail
