Also something else you may interested to know. The stone column you started the video over is often referred to as Nicky's Knob and you are correct it was left by the quarrymen as a reference to how much stone was taken and to show the height of the original land. Also the building behind the knob is very unusual its use is currently undisclosed as far as I can tell. I went up and looked over to it's roof one day and all the sand or material inside had pushed up with such pressure it was lifting the roof off and in places it has done this many times since it's construction. It possibly indicates the material is being pushed up from under ground with force as the machinery that potters around the building has blue and red flashing lights on the grill indicating some kind of mining operation perhaps. The building I am referring to is in shot at 1 minute 14 seconds. At 1.29 you can clearly see all the patchwork repairs on the roof where material has pushed it all up. I was also detained and questioned in the port area a few years back by several huge special forces people the normal police and a civilian retired RSM that I recognised from my time in the army. When he tersely told me not to walk under the barrier as military people like to do and I looked at him with a sideways look he denied all knowledge of being in the military and went all coy and made himself scarce. It's a strange place in that port and not at all as it seems I can very much assure you.
I live on Portland and mentioned in one of your previous videos that you should come and visit. Such a shame that there are so many blocked off and restricted access areas but I do believe that there are ways to access these places if you know the right people
Excellent flying, Matt. The main part of Portland ROTOR is that suspicious lump in the Prison Moat (Gorge). The emergency exit used to come up into the Moat. The Portland Bunkers Ltd building used to be a guardhouse for the now demolished HMS OSPREY (not to be confused with RNAS OSPREY which was the RN helicopter training base). Between 1968-70+ HMS OSPREY became one of the most important Central Government wartime dispersal sites in the UK. It was one of four land-based PYTHON Sites. PYTHON Sites replaced the former Central Government War HQ under Corsham (BURLINGTON etc) on 01 May 1968. After that date, BURLINGTON then became a decoy site for the PYTHON concept until the end of the Cold War. What you have there is excellent footage of a place from which the new Prime Minister might have ruled the UK, if his PYTHON Site survived the nuclear attack.
I have always really enjoyed Drone footage. As a child, I used to have flying dreams from what is now known as a Drone's eye view of places I've never been or close to home they always are my most favourite dreams.
Thanks Matt, i absolutely love Portland so this was a real treat. Ive only seen photos of the forbidden city before so it was great to see the drone footage. I went walking there once and was turned away by the port authority at the main gate. The cafe at the top where the big radar station is is quite nice, great views of the bay and there are some abandoned buildings up there once used by military officers, quite interesting to poke around. Cheers
Back in the late 70's, I spent a week at HMS Osprey, which at the time, was land based. I believe it was something to do with anti-submarine research. I was there as a Sea Cadet, but I didn't end up joining the navy, but it was fun learning how to fire a .303 rifle. We also got the chance to go out on a "target towing tug". Basically a tug boat that tows out a floating platform with targets mountred on it that are used for target practice for fighter jets. HMS Osprey occupied some of the land you showed in the drone footage. In fact that flag pole at 3:41 may well have been theirs in the past.
Just FYI, the island is Portland, Portland Bill is the point where the lighthouse is positioned, right at the bottom of the island. Where you were at the start is an area called the Grove, just behind the YOI Grove prison.
Now that was a drone flight to demonstrate what can be achieved with them, in the hands of a skilled user. I could watch this type of videos all day, was relaxing and extremely interesting. DJI should send you free drones to advertise their products. Well done Matt.
I live on Portland and I love this drone footage, I have tried to find the Forbidden City on foot following the pathway at the side of the Royal Navy cemetery however I never found it thanks for sharing this video I could see that you based yourself at the back of Fancys Farm so I kind of know where the Forbidden City is now relative to Fancys Farm Great Video
Wow this is really fantastic Matt - your skill in flying low and close around those buildings is unbelievably good 👍 Love the video and commentary and music great as always. Well done!! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
Matt.... there is something quite magical about joining you on a Drone Tour. You make such fantastic content. I particularly loved the flight at low level inspecting all the nooks and crannies. You live a good life Matt. 🙂👍👋
Just found this Matt, made my day. Many happy memories of HMS Osprey. All of the accommodation blocks, galley and other buildings now gone but I can still picture where they all stood. Would love to have a chance to walk around it again .
Matt also also also from my experience living there day to day you could do worse than focus on the Verne as it is a citadel that has housed and still does I think radar and other sensitive equipment, but since it was changed to a sex offenders prison all the prison vans have stopped going up and down and there isn't the daily barrage of traffic at shift change time. I have become deeply suspicious of its current use and am not at all sure if it used as a prison at all. It is my belief that all the sensitive sights are connected by underground workings and the entrance or a entrance to the rotor tunnel is in fancys farm behind the citadel. Also you show the buildings with the patchwork roof again at 7.46 and you can clearly see the proximity to the citadel. Also the channel or moat you mentioned was cut when the citadel was built and most of it was used to build the breakwater. They rent the stone from Albion Stone I believe.
04:27, in front of the green cabbed tanker, three anti-air platforms? With possibly a fourth overgrown? Perfect spot for them too, I could be wrong. 06:15 another circular walled structure with a walk way in.
Matt I live on Portland and you are incorrect Portland Bill is the name of the southern tip of the Isle of Portland and it has three main villages Fortuneswell, Easton and Weston. Just to put the record straight. Carry on.
Quality footage man ! That Gorge looks like an interesting place to have a look around to me. I'm going there for holiday next week, is there any thing worth exploring there besides what is on this excellent footage? Will be bringing all my lights and kit as I want some thing fun and interesting to do while family is doing other things. Do any of the building in the latter part of the video go under ground ?
Very interesting video, I was based at the old Osprey in 67/68, halfway up the hill on the back road shown in your video, much better seeing the place from above rather than trunching up or down that leg tiring road.
i know where the entrance tunnel is to the fuel bunker, if its not been found already, took ages to work it out, used readily available photos, but i now deff know where it is.
I spent a twice a few weeks at Portland. Was military exercises (BOST, GHOST) over there. We had a lot of fun in the nearby pubs..... Did a few scuba divings, found an old war ship at Alpha-Head and a freighter inside the harbour. nice to get a flash back on Portland.
Portland is a fantastic place to visit and I know it very well, having been there many times over the years, but this part of the island was always an intriguing mystery to me. It was a part you could never get anywhere near, so seeing this footage is fascinating. It’s a much bigger area than I thought. Looking at it though, I’m kind of puzzled why it’s still ‘sensitive’. It all looks pretty deserted. I actually though the M.O.D. were no longer there. This is definitely the sort of thing drones were made for. By the way, what is this bunker that you keep mentioning?
Place is actully the island of Portland. Portland Bill is the southern most tip of the island with the Lighthouse. Just of portland bill is the portland race where the 2 bodies of water meet from East and west. Causing the water to swirl around.
Been a Birder since the 70's and used to go to Portland Bill, and the Bird Observatory, Easton and Weston , saw my first ever Dark Eyed Junco on an allotment at Portland, your video Matt has revealed a part of Portland I have never seen., been close to the prison, I was once told that on the hill by the big white house overlooking the lighthouse, there was a naval base for submarines with the entrance being under the water, but I don't know, anyway loved the video, thanks for sharing ...Mike
Awesome upload! Always wanted to see what’s down in the “hidden city” so to speak. Good luck with trying to get down into the Bunker. Failing that there are plenty of other tunnels and caves if you know where to look 😜
The best bunker is fancy’s farm which is above the bunkers, the door has been welded shut tho, I have been down them many years ago, get in touch with me and I will tell you. Portland ROTOR will give you pictures.
@11:49 what is the difference between where you are sat of cliff edge and the person sat on a Block built wall? NONE Look closer at what is perceived to be a "Cliff"....
I love Portland, I want to move there. Such a lot going on in a tiny place, sad it's been so ravaged by quarrying, losing it's stone circle, demolished to build the prison (that's now a youth detention centre), I mean they coud have just moved it all a bit or the left or right? The islanders begged not to lose their stone circle but still they did, very sad, also the hill fort (now the prison). So it's been vandalised & had the guts ripped out of it but still manages to be beautiful & have rare flora & fauna. I'd not seen this site so thanks I now know what's there. You made me laugh too! The port is missing a trick for sure, it's listed so why not fix it up a bit so people can pay to go look around? It would be a huge tourist attraction. No instead they try & build incinerators & moor up controversial barges. Duh!
All I can think of the children's cartoon 'Portland Bill'. I just can't un-think it lol. I do love the drone footage and commentary Matt. Find those bunkers 😁
11.02 all the patchwork in the roof again. 17.21 in that building I asked the girl I was with to try a huge electrical switch that was on the wall and shouted BANG as she touched it. 😂🤣😆😆😆
I smell Napoleons. The French chaps in whos name we build a thousand forts. Then those look like WW2 gun inplacements that would have plotting rooms and magazines that became the Rotor bunker. They must house a grow op if they keeping it closed to the general public. Wot ?

RNAS Portland not RNAS Osprey.
great video Matt so much on Portland lots of tunnels and hidden things most of the base is now shut down but not near the port sea part.
I have always really enjoyed Drone footage. As a child, I used to have flying dreams from what is now known as a Drone's eye view of places I've never been or close to home they always are my most favourite dreams.
Wow, the drone control is really awesome! Didn’t know about this place, thank you!

Absolutely love your drone work. No exception this time ❤ Fantastic voiceover as always haha nice Hitchhikers ref there Matthew ❤
There's an entrance near the old Navy base gate at Castletown. And another at East Weare.
Just FYI, the island is Portland, Portland Bill is the point where the lighthouse is positioned, right at the bottom of the island. Where you were at the start is an area called the Grove, just behind the YOI Grove prison.
Very amazing piloting Matt thank you again for this excellent production
24yrs since I lived on Portland. Really miss that place

Secret vault the best bunker channel 👍🏻
Somewhere on portland is meant to be a vehicle storage bunker similar to the one in London

The entrance to the communication tunnel is right by the gate at the north entrance
Awesome video Matt. Love that music too.

That ocusync is amazing the signal and penitration is brilliant cracking footage as always 👍👍👍
What an amazing video🥰 your voice over on this is just beautiful 🥺😍❤ I absolutely loved it 💥👍
I agree
That's nicodemasis knob. It was left to show how much portland stone was removed
That's hellish brilliant drone flying to be able to fly drone right inside that place without actually being in there Matt. Loved it, x
Oh come with me to the rolling sea where the weather calm and still with the adventures of Portland bill.
i know where the entrance tunnel is to the fuel bunker, if its not been found already, took ages to work it out, used readily available photos, but i now deff know where it is.
The dockyard is no longer military but owned by a private company, those bunkers hold thousand of gallons of fuel
Beautiful views with the drone Matt 😚
The BBC have said can they have your number for voice over replacement of David Anntenborough soon to be Matthew Williams OBE
You were on portland, not in portland bill... Anyway nice drone flight.
Excellent flying Matt.

brilliant drone flight and music is good as well
Wow, cracking footage Matt!, Never been to any of that part of the island. I have been indoors to the navy base as a kid for some doo though.
Also, the remains of the railway would be spectacular heritage railway if not smashed up on closure...
Nice one I enjoyed that 😊
Thank you for this Mat
Awesome footage mate, haven't been there in years.
Awesome shots 👍👍
So cool my dad was based at portland Bill in the early 70s ❤️
Wow, that looks like a fun place to explore...lots of history all over.
Great drone footage very interesting video
the rock that was taken away was used to build the breakwater
Awesome upload! Always wanted to see what’s down in the “hidden city” so to speak. Good luck with trying to get down into the Bunker. Failing that there are plenty of other tunnels and caves if you know where to look 😜
Where can we look 😂 We're off there next week
The best bunker is fancy’s farm which is above the bunkers, the door has been welded shut tho, I have been down them many years ago, get in touch with me and I will tell you. Portland ROTOR will give you pictures.
Nice stuff brah, 👏
I could just watch this for hours, how many batteries can the drone hold ?
Thank you Matthew
4:50 possibly something going into the rocks under the overhead roadway there

Cool good drone work
@11:49 what is the difference between where you are sat of cliff edge and the person sat on a Block built wall? NONE Look closer at what is perceived to be a "Cliff"....
Great narrated tour
Where I used to live lovely place lots to explore and discover
Is that Craig Deyager sat with you? If so, I used to be good mates with him, we went to school together..
Nice calming cometary matty boy.
They want to put an incinerator there. Huge backlash from residents
I love Portland, I want to move there. Funny that you mention the drone rules and your breaking them anyway good shot of the forbidden city haven’t been in there in years
Used those buildings for tactical house clearing CQB.
Very interesting, fantastic footage!
Thanks Matthew! 😎👍
Get in there it's a good explore fuel bunker there as well you can get in the Rotor bunker just ask the owner
Fantastic video mate

That was a great flight, found it very interesting thanks, Matt. 👍👍👍👍
All I can think of the children's cartoon 'Portland Bill'. I just can't un-think it lol.

Superb

Would have liked to hear you speak . The music is terrible. 👍
Matt you should go there at night i bet its a spooky place at night
are you off your chops lad?
I have been there sooo many times
I would love to spend a weekend there - so much to explore!
This is also known as invasion of privacy
Its forbidden because they buried a load of nuclear waste there
I smell Napoleons. The French chaps in whos name we build a thousand forts. Then those look like WW2 gun inplacements that would have plotting rooms and magazines that became the Rotor bunker. They must house a grow op if they keeping it closed to the general public. Wot ?
super
shame you are not allowed to go into there there is to much in the way of secret areas that is held off limits to the public
The rock ar 00:38 has a face.
Old Portland bill
First
