Despite this I still love the character I just wish Nick would treat him better like how he was in the earlier seasons.)
Spongebob does get upset/sad but it’s usually for stupid reasons But with Wander his emotions are appropriate for the situation. Being optimistic isn’t the same as lying to yourself.
And SpongeBob supported shipping Plankton and Helga Pataki, from Hey Arnold!, a child. No really, in that one commercial. And this happened again in a Nicktoons Christmas crossover.

I think it would have been cool if there was one final season where he was truly starting to give up only for Sylvia to be the one to start showing kindness to everybody causing Wander to gain his motivation back.
Wander is the very good example of writing a cheerful character, because even a very cheerful and positive character has negative emotions for normal reasons. All moments Wander had negative emotions have points and that's good written.

Sorry I think I have to disagree, this bit suffers a bit from the Season 2 animation in the sense it’s way too “over-animated” and soft and puppet-like and lacks the more natural smoothness of Season 1

well Wander is implied to be potentially thousands of years old, so it's a very strong possibility; in one episode he talks about how he got his hat. he stole it from two brother kings because he realized if he didn't do anything, that entire planet would've gone to war with itself. In another episode when all of his personalities got split; he had the most importation part of him, his innocent like nature. I feel like Wander has some type of Trauma, so he tries to befriend and be nice to people as a coping mechanism: but with people like Dominator, he just sort of can't and eventually lets his anger out for once
the fact the he's voiced by the same guy who voiced irving (phineas and ferb), toadie (amphibia), clumsy (smurfs: the lost village), and fix-it felix (wreck it ralph) makes this even better
The moment with the electric chair is the funniest to me. Since I've never watched this show, I have no context, so I just see the super nice character electrocuting the villain out of nowhere. XD
I love how many of these moments are followed by Wander still trying to stay positive. Like, he might be upset, but he still has that positive mindset in his core edit: also the Swear count, absolutely love how he canonically swears when needed HAHAH
