It's probably no coincidence that when Marmon got out of the luxury automobile business that it got into trucks and 4x4 military vehicles.

When I was young in the early 60’s my friend and I used to like to roam through junkyards ( you could do that back then). I remember seeing a Marmon like this, had little curtains in the back windows. I had never heard of Marmons and have never seen one since that day.

During the years of the Great Depression - this was the quintessential high water mark of American prestige and affluence on display. The Marmon Automobile was the car of Movie Stars, Business Moguls, and the old monied rich. There's nothing quite like a V16 powered luxury motor vehicle with custom coachwork to motor effortlessly amid the lower class proletariat and cause everyone to stop and watch a car such as this would. Marmon made sports Roadsters with the V16 engine as well. The Marmon was and still is Rare. However they were in the same class as Packards, Cadillacs, Dusenbergs, Pierce-Arrows, and on par with Rolls Royce, Avions Voisin, Maybach, Mercedes-Benz. and the behemoth Bugatti Royale. The Depression Years caused many luxury car makers to go under and never resurface. Once WW2 was ignited and we became involved - gas rationing and the war effort put these types of cars to rest, permanently. The few that survive today is a miracle. Many sat in storage buildings, garages, and barns for a decade or more. Mand after the war were scrapped as no one wanted these types of automobiles any longer. Marmon lived on as heavy Trucks merging with other makers until it is finally only a name brand with no real vehicle tied to it.

@@legioner9 Can I take a guess? DuPont Dulux Enamel? But this paint is recent, didn't the text say? Who would want it now, though - with no BlueTooth, phone chargers, or cup holders? They're gonna be stuck with it. But maybe I could take it off their hands, if they were to ask nicely. I was starting to suspect someone had slipped a 350 under the hood, since they weren't showing the engine, but whew, they came through. "A thing of beauty is a joy forever," someone wrote. I don't know about forever, but isn't it holding up well 87 years later?
