In this edition of Motor Lens, we go back in time to 2016, where I was filming on my cellular phone, long before I got camera equipment while busy as a student journalist at USF writing a feature story about the life of "Big Daddy" Don Garlits as a student journalist. Once seen on the old Motor Lens channel, I retrieved this video before the channel closed and did some minor edits to the picture, although was unable to make it perfect given the quality of the phone I filmed it on.
Here, the legendary drag racer from Ocala, Florida tells the tale of not only his racing roots and career, but he also tells the story of how the #museumofdragracing was born. The following is a quote from Garlits' anecdote from the video:
"March of 1984, when we have first cut the ribbon to open the Don Garlits Drag Racing Museum, we had sold 11,000 tickets. And we weren't opened. In that first year, we sold 27,000 total tickets in the opening year, and we average about 45,000 people a year."
Sorry for the length of the video being over an hour long, hope you all like it. Feel free to like or write a comment to share your thoughts.
