- Great Malvern Station on 18 May 2019 where I recorded the arrival and departure of the last scheduled HST from Paddington to Hereford.
The birds sing in a somber mood, turn up the volume and just listen to their song, as power car 43009 pulls to a stop at the platform closing the curtains on a familiar scene which we have all become accustomed with over many years.
Power car 43115 in Inter-City corporate livery brings up the rear.
The end of an era at my local station for one of my favourite trains. I have included a few extra clips of HST services in and out of Great Malvern at the end with a final scene to two IC-125s passing each other at Didcot.
What a train, British Built with quality that lasted far beyond its time.

Where do I start with this. I remember the HST's coming into service and at first I was very lukewarm about them at best.
This was because I was a big fan of the class 52's as the Westerns were withdrawn and replaced on the Western Region by the HST's.
Anyway as time went on I spent allot of my time on the HST's perusing my interest in Railway's.
I was at Swansea High Street on the date in question to see the last ever HST departing for Paddington.
What I miss most about the HST's today is the Buffet Car and its the same for me over again as I am still not impressed by the IET 800's.
After the services to Paddington were withdrawn they still continued to operate 4 car HST's on the Cardiff to Taunton Great Western Service yet sadly these are also beginning to be phased out.
Thank you John for that moving tribute to the HST story. I recommend replicating the experience with models. I get great enjoyment from my own HST models now.
