Respect for not just talking all the talk and actually giving it a go. I understand playing as goaly is the most natural transition from a former American "football" player, but you should also give kicking the ball a go, even if its just for training. As after all the sport is FOOTball after all, and I'm sure that'll be another humblingyet and eye opening experience
Keeper is especially tough at night. Massive respect for trying it, should definitely try a game or two or even collab with a foorball youtuber and you guys can go over shooting/passing/defending drills. Would love to see you outfield when the achilles is better
You just need to find your positioning for each spot off the ball. The way I train my high school keepers. Is by having points. Basically have them laying down with there foot on the goal line and have there arm stretched out where your palms are is your mid spot. Then you find your left and right post spot. That will help save near post and far post shot. Its all about angles and being 5 passes ahead and watching the game develop
I think the thing that will help you out the most is just your positioning. Knowing when to come off your line and where to play in front of goal in general. Which I think generally comes with experience. Your hand eye coordination and natural athleticism are fine. Just need some time and experience in goal.
Fair play. Looks like you had fun regardless. Seems as if you was trying to catch and stop everything with both hands. Sometimes you need to just get a strong hand on the ball. Pre anticipate the shot also so you can be prepared to dive early. Drill low dives because your tall getting low will be more difficult. Quick low dives, dive to the right jump up dive to the left in sets of 10. Commanding the defence, make sure defenders are marking their man and are goal side of the attacker, if they drift off remind them to mark their man and get goal side. Good luck if you pursue 👍
Next time before you play you should get an online goalkeeper coach who will give you advice and tips on how to get better and also just the basics of positioning and handling etc
Fair play Wade! Still think you're very wrong from your original tweet but you are getting out there and giving it a go! When your injury is a little better, you should come to the UK and do a BUNCH of football videos with some UK RUclipsrs who thrive off it - Miniminter, ChrisMD, maybe get some of your boys like Viddal and Ade on the go, Manny, bring Sensei along, would be an absolutely great collab and so many potential ideas of what you guys could do! Challenges etc. Get people like angry ginge and Danny Aarons involved. Oh! You could do a set of football challenges with you and some of the "worst" influencer footballers i.e. Vikkstar, Callux etc. That would be an amazing video!
For next game, concentrate on the connection between you and the unit ahead - talk talk talk - you can see things they can’t positional and vice versa. Try and make sure you’re not leaving huge gaps on near posts when the ball is being worked on each wing coming at you (see video). The third goal is all about presence and pressure and you don’t have either standing still - this is all split decision stuff but get out and make the attacker beat you - just like in your football, you’re all one defensive unit so work together.
what u need to get in your head Wade is the angles- so for the last goal, you should have blitzed up, because from his perspective that shuts down way more do the goal. Similar, you got to try place yourself bang in the middle of their angle on goal, although if they are far wide for the shot you can guard your near post a bit more since at this level of football people won’t be guaranteed to make the far post shots
Nicely done, sir. Soccer goalies are underrated by the casual observer. Kinda like punters in the NFL. But the pressure is intense. If you make the point or save the shot, it's expected. But lord help you if you miss the extra point or let an "easy" shot get past you. I am "short" (5'9") and "skinny" (130 lbs) so I thought fractured ribs and concussions were due to my size. Turns out, it's a common thing for keepers no matter what their size. Mad respect for you trying it out.
Wade, just a recommendation from a person who play keeper, the number one thing as a goalkeeper you should work on is your feet as although yes you also need to work on diving, 70%-80% of the time your on the field, your using your feet to help play out from the defensive line. So I would first work on getting the basic footwork down, I would recommend just passing with both feet against the wall. Another thing you should also work on is your positioning, as the way you position yourself for a shot can ultimately affect the outcome. For your positioning, I noticed you were mostly staying in your box for majority of the game, this isn’t that great as your defenders have no option to play back to you. So I would recommend staying on the edge of the box when your team has the ball at the halfway line at least. One more thing is I noticed you position yourself a bit too far from your near post, allowing the striker to have more options to shoot. Next time you should be a little closer to the near post if the striker is facing at an angle. Overall, not a bad first game for someone who has no experience but I’m here for the road and the improvements along the way.
I get why wade didn’t play outfield due to past injuries but playing in the midfield is truly where you’d find the hardest part of football(soccer) got to try rugby next though American football for people who don’t need pads😂😂😂
I will say Wade, football is one of those sports that looks so much easier than it is, especially standing between the sticks. I was a goalkeeper for like 3 years, it's very tough but so much fun imo.
To be fair to you, being a keeper is one of the hardest parts of the game, especially if you’re put up against a good player. I’d recommend CB if your Achilles is still troubling you, that’s what I played through my injury, it’s still not easy, but the best thing to play if you can’t move too much. (If you’re against a good attacking team tho, it’s gonna suck)
Wade my man i saw some great things! You also showed some good things as a goalkeeper. There was a moment when you were bouncing on your feet... Loved it! The crazy save you made, cause every footballer knows that a goaly has to be a little be crazy, so great save! Also when you caught the ball from the ground and you let one knee down 👍🏻 So overall... You can be proud 🙏🏻💪🏻
Respect bro! I’d say if they are wide and still have a defender on them, don’t be too fast to rush out. Just study some goalies on RUclips or online. Cech, Peter Schmeichel, Casillas, Neuer, Van Der Sar. Go more old school/traditional since you’re not gonna worry about using your feet too much in the beginning. Also make sure to not leave ur near post wide open, kind of like you did for your first conceded goal. Yes once the attacker is 1v1 or in the box, it’s usually best to come close them down and make yourself as big as possible. Keep your arms kind of mid range to be safe in the beginning that way you have a chance to move your arms up or down cause if you commit to much in one direction with your arms or hands, you are screwed if you guessed wrong. Also learning based on body language where someone will likely shoot, or based on what shots are available to them, that’s important too. lol sorry for the essay, but if you plan on keeping going, study goalies online. My favorite is Cech, as a chelsea fan. Legendary keeper.
As a keeper myself, respect for trying goalie. I would argue and say that its the hardest position. If not technique wise then atleast mentally. But if ur a beginner and u play outfield, its very hard to learn and play a sport with ur feet as u usually use ur hands in most sports. Fair game for actually trying it out💪🏼
Thanks for this wade! You're making me a lot more confident about my own goalkeeping after seeing this! For reals though I mean you did go 50/50 in the end so that guy near the start wasn't wrong.
I'm at 10:52 and honestly Wade you did decent like be proud of yourself dawg Yeah you're not the best goalie but like we told you bro 🤣 But it's alright you did good bro, it's not as bad as you made it out to be ✨
Can’t wait to see the growth. One thing to focus on is to learn more about positioning. For keeper it’s important to figure out when you need to close space and come out of net. In addition, if you play on the field it is really important to know your position and the role you play in that position. Soccer IQ goes a long way. Ofc you also need physicality, athleticism, and skill for the higher levels but for Sunday league. Focus on soccer IQ
former D1 juco goalkeeper for TJC here… (top 5 school), GK is not an easy position and the proprioception and IQ needed to be a good goalkeeper is crazy. Having never even played soccer before, it’s gonna be ROUGH 😂 all the best m8
Respect for giving it a go! Its not as simple as it looks lol. Deffo try and get a match when you're in england next, some of those guys get propper professional contracts (very rarely rhough). The kicks where it hits off your shin as it leaves your foot were hilarious though 😂 but as we were trying to tell you, its not just kicking a ball, there is actual technique 😂
dude all ill say is you played the most american position as well... wish you luck in this journey and more importantly i wish your team luck in staying on top of the table!
Honestly, he’s not entirely wrong. At the lowest level of sport, or even at a recreational level, soccer is easy to learn. Because it’s so simple. Especially compared to other sports. When you get up the levels however, it becomes the hardest to master.
Im a goalie and one of the biggest things i would say to do if you are going to continue is learn how to fall properly. If you just start diving or sliding to try to get balls its a very fast way to wreck knee and elbow ligiments
Would definitely be good to see u try playing outfield in future, you’ll be terrible in the first game but it’ll be nice to see you get better over time and learn a few things
Honestly pretty decent for your first try it went exactly how I thought. If you think that was hard though just wait till you try an outfield position cause not even just having to get coordination with your feet down which I think people underestimate how hard it is (it's my reason why I don't think football is that easy, something that involves hand to eye coronation is easier to pick up then this) and then also fitness comes it into play way more if you continue this it will be a very fun series to watch wade
That wasn’t that bad Wade! I’m nit a pro played a little goal a loooong time ago… Maybe attack the ball when they come up slow playing footsie if you can get to em before they set… Now when that rocket comes at you, sit back a little deeper and deflect if its out of reach… if you can’t catch try to tap the missile up or out… ❤

I think the thing that will help you out the most is just your positioning. Knowing when to come off your line and where to play in front of goal in general. Which I think generally comes with experience. Your hand eye coordination and natural athleticism are fine. Just need some time and experience in goal.
You lucky that you wasnt in the sidemen charity match for your first game. But keep at it, would be cool to see you start playing the sport 🔥
I wanna see him on the pitch trying to dribble 😂😂😂
wade react to best goalkeeper saves
Yep, imma need more of these videos! Class!
Not bad bru
Keep going wade 💪
I get why wade didn’t play outfield due to past injuries but playing in the midfield is truly where you’d find the hardest part of football(soccer) got to try rugby next though American football for people who don’t need pads😂😂😂
it’s so strange how u guys never get why football players wear pads lmao
I will say Wade, football is one of those sports that looks so much easier than it is, especially standing between the sticks. I was a goalkeeper for like 3 years, it's very tough but so much fun imo.
Lmao fair play for going out there and giving it a go but next time you gotta play outfield
The save where u jump at the header is good.
This has to become a series 🔥🔥💯
Fair game for actually trying it out💪🏼
Ain’t no way it’s the hardest position lol
@@luisbarrios4430 i would argue it is. U could say being a midfielder is up there, but goalkeeping is deffo the hardest thing to learn.
This 100% needs to be a series. Eventually you could play Goalie Wars with Angry Ginge.
The 6-a-side we play in the UK is nowhere near as friendly as this! Wade would have a heart attack if he played with us on a Tuesday evening 😂
Thanks for this wade! You're making me a lot more confident about my own goalkeeping after seeing this! For reals though I mean you did go 50/50 in the end so that guy near the start wasn't wrong.
I'm at 10:52 and honestly Wade you did decent like be proud of yourself dawg
Yeah you're not the best goalie but like we told you bro 🤣 But it's alright you did good bro, it's not as bad as you made it out to be ✨
Wade was using possibly the worst goalkeeper gloves I’ve ever seen so that would’ve made it harder
Respect the attempt Wade, love that you walked the opinion back a little but let’s see you play outfield next time, then the humbling will commence
6:55 bro probably could have rolled this ball into the goal if he saw Wade's position here
dont be hard on yourself, you're completely new to it , at least you tried it at some level. you actually did alright bro.
You can’t save a goal! You can save a shot! A goal is when the ball crosses the line
Fair play Wade! Would love to see more
mad props for having the balls to get out there and play, at least.
Fair play to wade came along and played one of if not the hardest position on the pitch
former D1 juco goalkeeper for TJC here… (top 5 school), GK is not an easy position and the proprioception and IQ needed to be a good goalkeeper is crazy.
Having played football helped him a lot, catching fundamentals were solid on the easier shots.
My boy Wade rolled the kick off his shin and said let’s go 😂😭
Huge respect hope you stick with the sport and upload some more vids
3:3 ain’t bad, with the title I thought all of them would go in 😂 good first game Wade, Goalie ain’t easy at all
Awesome you did this! Come to Europe and train a bit, maybe do a series of this! Would be awesome to watch! You're always welcome here in Portugal :P
If you make more football content, you're going to gain a massive following. You're like speed but more legit lmao
All the best G lfg
Respect for going out there but you gotta try some field play to really get a feel for everything that it takes mentally
Im a goalie and one of the biggest things i would say to do if you are going to continue is learn how to fall properly. If you just start diving or sliding to try to get balls its a very fast way to wreck knee and elbow ligiments
Need to see you outfield
Wade the dragon
I’m nit a pro played a little goal a loooong time ago…
Maybe attack the ball when they come up slow playing footsie if you can get to em before they set… Now when that rocket comes at you, sit back a little deeper and deflect if its out of reach… if you can’t catch try to tap the missile up or out… ❤
You should have gone out and trainwreck that guy on the 3rd goal there but overall pretty safe hands well done Wade 👏
Man i miss these in-goal camera Ben Foster-type vlogs since he retired 😢
