Broken Down In The Middle Of Nowhere?
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 12 ноя 2020
- Everything was fine until it wasn't!! We broke a leaf spring on our trailer's axle that left us unable to move until we figured out a way to get back to civilization. What do you do if your own camp trailer, motorhome or other RV breaks down with no help available? What are your options?

Getting out on the road is what Linda and I love to do with our converted cargo trailer camper. We're part time nomads and the nomadic lifestyle suits us to a Tee. Whether your RV is a camper van, camp trailer, travel trailer, motorhome or just a car and a tent, there's going to be something interesting for you in the videos we produce. Back roads and overlanding are part of what we do while exploring the western states for beautiful, peaceful and sometimes remote places to camp on BLM and National Forest land (public land). Taking care of ourselves as much as possible and doing our own repairs is a must because we travel on a fixed income and a limited budget. If your into being off-grid and boondocking whenever possible then you'll appreciate the discussions on batteries, solar panels and solar chargers or power stations. Come on along, we're happy to have your company!

MacGyver would be proud!
MacGayver used duct tape didnt he !?
For me this was the best of your video blogs. You cataloged and filmed it beautifully. I'm 83 and have found for myself that these unforeseen disasters determine the character of people. You two have lots of character, and I'm happy to be on the same planet with you.
David Iam a army vet and can not go out any more but they make it like Iam with them both.
Impressive. There’s a group called Nevada 4x4 rescue that its members help people like yourselves in this situation. All free and run by good Samaritan’s.
That sounds like a valuable group to know.
Yeah, good to know. Thanks for the heads up
Thats great. I drove The Loneliest Road last November.... so beautiful. LOVE LOVE LOVE Nevada.
I remember back in the min 90s my wife an i were comming back to the trailer from her parents house. We were full time rvers and at home in our camp site at night there was a couple under their trailer working and speaking french a good dize 5th wheel. I went into our trailer, changed close and went over i figured thay did not speek english sp just crawed undre to look the thing over they both looked at me and i gave them the ok sign. Its amasing how we worked to gether i moshened for her to get out from here. They had the same problem just off i65 north of nashvolle tn. He had i worked till 3 in the morning he had picked up the spring in town earlyer. We finished he hughed me and tryed to pay my. The next morning they came over i was outside with a coffie. They gave me a bottle of conyak. Spelling not good i know. I was glad to help they were probly in their late 60s or seventys.
You sir , are a prince among men !!!!! I know that sounds corny as hell but seriously a-lot of people talk about helping out of goodness of their hearts but very few do it without a camera or something to stroke their ego but . The reality of our world is that we ALL need help at some point in our lives and it will be paid forward im sure !!!!! Great story thank you for sharing and for being that type of person glory to the lord snd thanks to you i always say !
Thanks Howard GOOD ON YOU !
THE HUMAN GUY wants to also know the USA will get through all the problems coming especially with GREAT folks like you two God Bless !!
I love hearing stories like that. My neighbors are like that I call people like you Salt of the earth 🌍 Nice going.
Well there's a lot to be said for getting old. Most of the young people today wouldn't know what to do or how to do it. Good job, I know you feel like, well I still got this. And the Lord is with you two so that's makes up the difference. Happy Trails.
exactly
A resourceful man and woman, with Gods help, are what made this country great. A big AMEN to your perseverance!
Goes to affirm God helps those who help themselves. He didn't do a thing but watch 'cause He gave you those skills. Nice jury rig. 😉
iv prayed and prayed and prayed and iv never had god come and get his hands dirty helping me
God has His own way of helping us and His own time schedule. One thing for sure, it will always be better than what you could come up with by yourself. Sometimes we have to go through hardship to learn the lesson He wants to teach us or to be guided down the path He's set out for us to follow.
@@fukkyoutube but maybe He gave you the strength and ingenuity. He DID give you a way into heaven, which you CAN'T do for yourself.
Cute when Linda said, "that's not going to happen", and the camera went back and forth left to right.😄
Amazing skills while taking it all in stride!
Its a comfort to know that you are not alone in this world, and that you have the Lord to rely on! ....glad to see you made it!
I would’ve done the same thing, I carry all kinds of miscellaneous gear, wire, duct tape, cord, elec wire, and such, good to see you made it to shop, carry on and travel safe.👍🏽
“The tools are in there.” It usually means you have to pull EVERYTHING out to get to them. BTW....Of course you made it. The God who can part the Red Sea for people to walk through on DRY land can certainly hold your axle together. Glad your primary plan worked out and you made it into town for repairs.
Bailing wire in the toolbox coming soon lol
Yep... and probably will never need it again. LOL That's how it works for me.
When I was a young fella I used to always carry a couple of wire coat hangers in the trunk....great for fixing a multitude of problems...especially exhaust system failures. Cheers from Aussie land.
I never see wire coat hangers anymore. They were useful for a lot of things.
"Mechanic's wire" or "Tie wire" is my go-to; just use as many strands as is needed.
Love your adventures and the “we can do it together” attitude.
Good thought Amy, that's why best to leave mother at home.
Good job at the jury rigging. That reminded me having two flats within a mile of each other about 70 miles south of Gallop NM on a Friday, before a three day weekend. The tire place in Gallop was closed until Tuesday and had to order the tires, which took another day. We were there for days on an Indian reservation in the desert, but we had the only trees we could see anywhere for shade and a windmill fed water tank. The good out weighed the bad being there, we were surrounded by hundreds of sheep one morning and the hikes we took everyday were beautiful. I'm glad it went smooth for you two, ya gotta love it.
Some times it's those memories that are the most special, don't you think?
@@lostinspace280 Ha, indeed, nobody knew we were there. It was down near El Morro.
@@gonagain Indeed! I don't believe you will forget your special time either!
The rocks are spectacular around the Gallup, NM area.
Good story, loved it, merci.
NIce work you two. Hats off to your positive attitude, ingenuity and prayerful thankfulness.
Had a similar problem years ago offroad...used a come along to move trailer off trail...took spring off...took into nearest town for a weld...nobody wanted to do it... I did finally find someone to weld spring ...held for many miles till I got home and ordered 2 new sets.
Been there, done that. Even used two pieces of wood crossed to hold drive shaft up after a carrier bearing failure. Talk about a shakey ride... Love the video guys!
Wow, that worked ? Had a carrier fail last year, bang bang banged home at 15mph, it was horrible.
Grandpa use to tell all us kids "Stories are always better if you live to tell them yourself". Haha. Glad you made it & looks like you found a good place to repair it. Safe travels !!
You had me at “in Jesus name, amen!” Blessings
Prayer always works. I'm glad you did that. Your hearts are genuine and he helped you. Nice
Glad you made it safe. Don't know what I would have done in that situation. Makes me think. Thank you for your videos and I'm glad your safe!
Glad to see you made it out alright! Definitely have to be resourceful as you were when fixing busted parts in the backcountry. 👍
Are you MacGyvers Grandpa? That was some great emergency repair work! The Good Lord was with you every mile.
Taught him everything he knows! Nah, but I try. Thanks Jay.
Amazing ingenuity. This video should be required viewing to young folks who only know how to work apps on their phone. You remind me so much of my Dad.
Most of those towing plans only work if you're on a numbered route. It may not have helped you here. Congratulations on 20k subs. That piece of juniper needs to be saved. It has a story to tell.
We saved it. Might use it for knife handles or something.
@@gonagain Write a poem "Little Short Log". Story of how God gave it to you for your use. Frame poem and log. Hang on wall. Proof of miracles.
@@jimb5113 I don't know if the words will come to me, but I did save that log.
Well done guys. Yep, happened to me plenty of times when cutting wood in my earlier days. Always carried some baling twine along with my cutting gear. Did some pretty weird repairs, but things always worked out, 😂😂.
You need a bigger trailer to carry your 10kva generator, 200A welder, some 7018 welding rods and oven to dry your rods, yeah, a bigger trailer, 🤣🤣🤣.
Top repair ol' mate, well done!!
👏👏 👋👋👋
I gave up on trying to carry spares. Too many to even think of. Thanks Pilot and I hope you're staying cool.
110 forecast for Tuesday 🥵🥵
Toasty.
I love to see a couple (who obviously love each other) work so hand-in-glove together. Beautiful!
*SEND SNOW!! QUICK* 😂😂😂
Great job! Glad you made it!❤
Wow! Great job!!! Truly impressed!
Imagine finding a repair facility which uniquely fixes springs, how lucky can you get ! Regards AJ
Broken springs must happen a lot near there to keep the shop going. Glad you’re ok
The shop was also busy doing lifts and making custom flatbeds. Nice folks.
We don’t fix them, we replace them.
From all my previous experiences with leaf springs typically if you change one side you should change the other depending upon the age of the unit and the amount of use you may experience a difference in ride from one side to the other you did a great job that was a Cool fix to get you where you needed to be glad you are all safe
We will definitely be changing the other side. As soon as the snow melts! Thanks Mark.
Man, that was creative. Good one.
Yaaay! Great job, Rick! I’m glad you guys made it to town safely🙌🏽🙌🏽😊🤙🏽
Thx for the vid, with the wear an tear you put on that rig going camping, it mite have been to your benefit to replace both of them, an buy either some hose clamps and or spring keepers as backups, because you do go off-road so to speak more than most would, just my .02
That's a valuable two cents. I intend to replace the other side soon William.
Necessity is the author of invention as they say. I always carry four 4" band clamps and bailing wire or as some call it "farmers weld". We do have AAA insurance and will check into the trailer coverage writer. Well done Rick and Linda your a great team. God Bless!
We better see you guys out there soon!
@@gonagain I've been shoveling and using the snow blower here at the home base. Foot of heavy wet stuff with more on the way. Sunshine and warm temps, oh my. :)
@@explorer867 I'm gettin outta here asap.
OUTSTANDING! Great save and great service at the shop!
That was awesome, thanks for sharing!
Take the spring off and turn it around to hold the axle from moving backwards.
Next time. I'm changing out the opposite side leaf stack and I'm also installing polyurethane pads/bumpers to dampen the shock a bit. Hopefully to avoid a "next time". Thanks Tony.
@@gonagain Glad all worked out for you to get in and get it repaired. Your strap did a good job of keeping forward. Yes on getting a spare spring just in case.
Good idea Tony. They're cheap and don't take up much room.
The LORD is with You, GOD BLESS. IN JESUS NAME.
My thoughts exactly!
Well done 👍... Loved the prayer 🙏. Safe travels Perry
Wow! Good job! Utah always Beautiful.
Makes me think of the early settlers coming across the country in wagons that were most likely les reliable with wooden wheels . Glad it work out one more adventure....🤠 aloha
Red Green would be proud of you. One you tuber I watch said he always carries 1 set of springs for his camper just in case, I think I going to buy one set for cheap insurance. Safe travels👍👍
Awesome job on the Jerry rig! Glad you made it safely.
Great temporary fix! I was on the edge of my seat! Loved this video.
Vinny says you need McGyver . He can take 3 Bobby pins , a lollypop , a nail file and 7 anti-diareal pills and get y'all outa there !
Winder towing is who to call. RUclips channel is Matt’s Offroad Recovery. He covers that whole area.
Thanks for stopping by! We also watch your channel.
@@gonagain Thanks. BTW, my brother has a trailer similar to yours that he has converted. You guys are two of a kind. Seriously impressed with your MacGyver hack.
Good deal! God has blessed y'all!!!
Sorry for your bad luck there Rick & Linda. Times like that just makes you enjoy the good camps, that much more. Great video to boot!
Great fix, great job on taking it slow!
Life is an adventure. I Enjoy your positivity and creativity.

Whew! I was rooting for you all the way. Glad to see you made it safe and sound.

Great ingenuity.
I'm impressed, well done! And you sure do have a great attitude about the whole situation.
you're GOLDEN!
So glad you made it.
Fantastic videography.
Outstanding off road engineering using what was available to you in the area. I often think of the people in covered wagons going west with all the axels and wooden wheels breaking .Great job !
My palms got sweaty watching you pull out of there. Good work! Glad you made it safely 🙏🏼
You two are amazing. Always teaching others through your adventures ❤️
And, you knew Who to call on. He was holding you both fast in His hands. So thankful you made it!
Great job! Thank you for taking the time to bring us along for the adventure.
Glad the two of you made it out of there and got the repairs done now let the journey continue Great video of putting your mind to work in a bad situation 👍👍

Excellent video and outcome. God Bless!
I respect your diy fix
The power of prayer and good ole fashioned ingenuity!! Thanks for sharing!!
Good Job, deserves not 2 but 3 pats on back!
Nice job.
Well done sir! I’d have to say you had it all - luck, skill, a capable co-worker, and Devine deliverance! You look so much like our family doctor I first thought you were he.
The very Essence of the word DIY, plus experience and an 'I can fix that' mindset!
Nice job good bless..
