  • One of our most notable bird sightings we had during our recent trip to Costa Rica was that of a Rufous-vented Ground Cuckoo. This species of bird is considered very rare and difficult to find with only 1,073 observations reported worldwide on ebird. We actually managed to see a pair of these birds in one area of Rincon de la Vieja National Park where a colony of army ants was moving about. The Rufous-vented Ground-Cuckoo has a very long tail, 19 inches in total. Its crest looks rather tattered, and blue eyeliner highlights its eyes. A brown chest gives way to shiny purple feathers on its back. Hope you enjoy our video from our observation.
