TUNISIA 3 - La Medina di Tunisi (with English subtitles!)

Per secoli le medine del Maghreb sono state il fulcro dei commerci e della cultura del Mediterraneo meridionale. La medina di Tunisi è ancora oggi un luogo magico, dichiarato nel 1979 Patrimonio Mondiale dell’Umanità dall’UNESCO. La si può dividere per comodità in tre aree: innanzitutto la zona centrale, da Bab el Bhar (Porta del Mare) a Piazza della Kasbah, congestionata dai mille mercanti e visitatori dei suoi suq. Poi ci sono la zona meridionale e la zona settentrionale, che risultano molto più tranquille: dei labirinti veri e propri dove prevalgono il blu delle porte ed il bianco delle pareti degli edifici, nel quale è piacevolissimo perdersi, alla ricerca di un passato antichissimo!
For centuries the medinas of the Maghreb have been the hub of trade and culture in the southern Mediterranean. The Medina of Tunis is still a magical place today, declared a World Heritage Site by UNESCO in 1979. It can be divided for convenience into three areas: first of all the central area, from Bab el Bhar (Sea Gate) to Kasbah Square, congested with a thousand merchants and visitors to its souks. Then there are the southern and northern areas, which are much quieter: real labyrinths where the blue of the doors and the white of the walls of the buildings prevail, in which it is very pleasant to get lost, in search of a very ancient past!
