Every laptop should be this straight forward to open and take apart. Doing maintenance like this should be straight forward and easy. So I’m glad HP is one of the good ones and doesn’t do silly things to make this difficult.

@@RexGalilae well, A15 was bad, but it was not on the same tier as Omen 15, A15 is competitor of Pavilion 15, meanwhile Strix G15 and Zephyrus G15 was the ones closer to Omen 15. Although i think the direct competitor would be Scar 15

Benchmarks are useless except for those who wish to converse on forums. Thermal limits followed by power limits are the focal points on laptops. If everything checks out, then the laptops performance expectations will flow nicely as drivers and updates evolve.
Bob awesome review of the Omen 15 ..and this teardown is just like my Omen 15 i8750h quesiton...You use the longer method for rectangles..Have you ever experienced issues where thermal paste did not spread out to cover the entire CPU GPU Dye? 2 Have you ever used the spread method?
That depends on the laptop and when the laptop was manufactured. For example I just bought a new laptop yesterday but it was made over six months ago so that thermal paste is a little dried up.

Thanks for this. Just recently got the Ryzen 7 4800h/rtx 2060 model. Was getting high temps on some games almost 100c on the cpu but read into switching core performance from aggressive to disabled in the power plan. After following your guide I used some Corsair XTM50 thermal paste and after booting up and settling idle I'm seeing 33c cpu and 34c gpu on performance mode with fans to auto on Omen control centre EDIT: 11 months later, the paste I used at the time wasn't too great and found myself changing it out. I feel I get better longevity and slightly better temps with Coolermaster MasterGel Maker (Thermal Conductivity: 11 (W/m-k)
@@セータン Core performance can be accessed in power plan settings. If you can't find the option, it must be unlocked via registry editor. This stops the processor from using turbo, so you will notice a slight performance loss
CephDigital That’s what I’m thinking as well, no point buying one now, given the 3000 series is gonna come out soon. But if HP decides to run a 3070 or 3080 with a ryzen chip next year I’ll definitely stick with Omen and replace my 2018 model with a newer one.

I really hope you do one of these videos for the eluktronic rp-17. I heard they got rid of the option to upgrade thermals because of how many orders they were getting. Would be interesting to see how much better it would get
Just did it on a brand new Omen 15, here's the results. Omen 15 (I7-10750h - RTX 3070) Paste used: Arctic MX-5 AIDA64 stress test. The temps did not go down, but I've managed to reduce the throttling from 11% to 4%. The fans also significantly decreased in decibels. So i'm pretty sure that on a full 6000rpm, I could manage to see lower temps.
yeah with this price y740 is avible in Poland but it is dos version and with ssd only. I hope new omen will be as good as legions. Does someone know if motherboard from legion y 540 would fit y740 ?

While you still have the EN-0013DX I was curious if it came with a 512GB SK Hynix PC601. The EN-0023DX came with the EN-0023DX. There aren't any reviews on them yet, but my 1TB model got 3450/2450.
Which side is the ssd in? I don't like how there's an m.2 directly next to the battery. That m.2 can heat up pretty fast and potentially ruin the battery.
Does changing thermal paste will void the warranty? I will replace with Thermalright tf8, I bought the laptop in June 2021 so the temp gets higher it reached 80c on Idle and 30% load will reach 100c easily so I will re-paste it.

You could put up information regarding the difference in the temperature before and after the repaste.
Screw the heatsink back by turning the screws a few turns at a time or you risk chipping the dies

You should have used new coolermaster gel, artic mx5 is bad for laptops

Indeed, kryonaut aren't really good in term of durability, but i can forgive it because of the mindblowing temps result.
Further improvements you can make: add 0.5mm thermal pads around the CPU and GPU core.
