Main Terminal/Short Term Garage Elevators at Tampa International Airport, A Mod in Progress Ride

I know I've been saying the day was gonna come for years, as once the cabs were redone on these elevators back in 2017, I thought they'd be modernized right then and there, only for it to turn out that they weren't going JUST YET. Though, I was told they'd be fully modernized eventually, the actual date remained unknown. Well, fast forward 5 years later, modernization is now well underway, and as of February of 2022, the first newly modernized Main Terminal elevators in the Airport are completed! Here is the MOMENT you've all been waiting for!!!
This is my first time coming back to the Airport since I came here with @geneseetrainselevators2448 in September of 2021, and since then, the Yeager and Earhart Elevators banks have begun modernization and are well underway. At the time of recording, 2 elevators in each of those two banks were modernized, 2 were in progress, and 2 were still Westinghouse. The Armstrong and Sikorsky banks have not been touched yet, but once Earhart and Yeager are complete, they'll be going to. Even though neither of those two banks have started, I still featured them in this video even after my official final ride video since I got a new camera for Christmas. But that's beside the point. You're probably wondering what my thoughts are on the mod...
So far, I do think Schindler is doing a phenomenal job with this new elevator modernization! The New Fixtures look VERY NICE and fit in nicely with the new cabs and the recent renovations done to the Airport, The new lanterns look VERY COOL, and the mod was done really tastefully as the New Indicator resembles the original and is STILL analog, but it looks more modern and brighter! Not to mention, these elevators are extremely smooth, and these seem to go equally as fast as they did before.
That said, I am still sad about this modernization as the original fixtures, chimes and voice hold a ton of nostalgia for me as I rode these a lot as a kid, plus, the Dinner Bells destroy electronic chimes ANYWAY regardless of which elevator they're installed on, and while the Motors and most of the equipment on these is now over 50 years old, these elevators still run just as well as ever, and while the new Schindler's are extremely smooth, the existing elevators aren't rough or uncomfortable by any means! And I do find the modernization kind of unnecessary as these still remain reliable in their current condition and the fact Schindler already replaced the OG Controllers and added chimes and voices and made these ADA Compliant a while back.
Again, Schindler is doing an EXCELLENT JOB on the Modernization, it's just a modernization that I find unnecessary that I also find sad due to the amount of nostalgia and memories these hold. That being said, I do like the mod and my only real gripe with it is the new voices. The new voices aren't NEARLY as intelligent or informative as the old voice! Not to mention, the call buttons have this weird glitch where they'll call a newly modded elevator but won't actually go out till an old one comes. This is just a temporary issue though that will be fixed once the mod is complete however. Beyond that though, this is a Great Mod and while I will really miss the original elevators, I am interested in seeing what the future holds for them! As always, for those struggling to cope with the change, they're are grief counselors if you need them!

Installed in 1971. (Westinghouse Selectomatic Mark IV with Type A/AE fixtures)
Modernized:
1st Modernized in Circa 2005-2007. (New Schindler Controllers, Voices Added, and Indicators on the exterior of the elevators added. Everything else left original.)
Lanterns and call stations on floors 1-3 replaced in 2013. Cab interiors overhauled in 2017.
2nd Modernization in 2022-2023. (Schindler with New 6400 Motors, New Controllers, New MAD BP Fixtures, New Interlocks, New Doors, New Brailles, New Indicators, New Lanterns, etc. Only the cabs which were already redone in 2017 will be kept as is.)
It was nice meeting you here! We should definitely do this again sometime soon. Also I kept making him wait a long ass time for me while I was trying to get chimes and indicators lol. Sorry about that lmao. So yeah, if you wanna meetup with me just know that’s what I do.
I LOVE the 6400 mod! The Westys will be missed but this Schindler mod is definitely a good way to say goodbye to them. At least they are staying in the “Westy” family lol

My overall thoughts on this mod: it’s a pretty nice mod, and I think Schindler is doing good with it. But I prefer the originals for sure. I’m very glad I got to see those with you here. So yeah I like the new mod but I love the originals more
Thankfully there’s still one bank that’s original! I don’t live in the state but I really want to send an email to somebody and ask if I can get one of the panels just because that would be the coolest for me.
