    An amusing solution to prevent the hostage from obtaining too many items: if you punch the hostage, a random item gets dropped from his inventory

      And it’s also pretty hard for the hostage to get away anyway since there’s a compass pointing at them at all time, so they need all the gear they can get.

      I must say, one of the funniest things in that video was Dream's death to dolphins. Especially since everyone always comments on how he's like some sort of dolphin Disney princess. like "Dream dips a toe in the water. Nearby dolphins: 'I have been summoned'" except this time because he hit it,

    I know this won’t be seen but ideas:
    - 30 minute timer for the hostage that counts down when not tied up. When it hits 0 the hostage wins.
    - Make the Hostage able to die of hunger after two minutes of not being fed when tied up. When they die they will respawn at server spawn being freed. The food has to be provided by the others and you can right click the hostage to feed them. This makes it so the hostage can’t be left behind when tied up and creates tighter resource management (at least I hope so).
    - Give the player Speed 1 for 5 seconds when they recapture the hostage from somebody else.
    - Maybe have a ping on the hostage every minute with the glowing effect.
    - Give the hostage a predetermined inventory set up (like tools, lava buckets, etc.) but not allow them to pick up items.
    I’ll edit in some more suggestions I think of

      Adding on to your respawn idea, maybe they can have like a cool down or freeze for a set time after they respawn so the players can get a small chance of “catching up”

      Maybe rather than not letting the hostage pick anything up (though that is fun), the hostage has an inventory of, say, five items, meaning they have to choose what things they think are the most important to pick up and can't just get all the good stuff each time. would make them have to set plans up earlier when inventory managing

      Building on the predetermined item idea, maybe include a knock back stick, to help when the hostage is on the run. Something to at least help them keep away

    I think Bad should be able to win if he has been free for a combined designated amount of time (ex: a total of 30 minutes). Also, I think it might be better if Dream, George, and Sapnap were all trying to win individually, but could work together to make sure Bad doesn't escape.

    Although I like the idea of having other people as the hostage, I think Bad must REMAIN the captive. He's such a great thorn in the side.

    Improvement ideas:
    1. The hostage can pick up items anytime, but they can craft only when they're unleashed
    2. Set a winning goal for the hostage, like going to a certain location as their "home", give them a compass pointing to that location
    3. Let the hostage takes damage from players hitting, but the kidnappers lose if the hostage dies
    4. Hostage can die from hunger, so kidnappers have to feed them
    5. Players can see the hostage's heart and hunger bar to prevent them from dying
    This is so fun! It's like creating a kidnapping scenario in minecraft

    The dolphin mechanic is based off real life dolphin behavior against predators, thats why they added it :)
    Edit: didn't think so many people would see this so i'll be specific. If let's say a shark attacks a member of a dolphin pod, the dolphins will jab it from all over with their noses until it goes away. In this video dream was basically a shark

    An objective for the hostage should be that the hostage is trying to get home. They are given a compass that points to home and are trying to escape the others to make it home. It'd also be cool if the hostage gets a special item to help them, like how the hunters(?) have the leash.

    This video looked so fun for the hostage. I would actually love to see one from the hostage's point of view. Especially if there was a way for them to win, as you said.
    Also, after this (and like... everything else) I'm convinced we need a Manhunt spinoff where Sapnap is the one that gets hunted by everyone. He's really really cracked.

    Maybe give the hostage a randomized goal, like having to craft a certain item or build a small structure. The other players wouldn't know what their goal is, so they'd have to prevent them as much as possible from collecting items. Perhaps when the hostage is a certain distance away, they win.

    im sure i've said this before but i'll say it again since dream brought it up - dream, the editing in your videos is the main reason why they stand out - the pacing, the storytelling, setting up the narrative and each arc with music and cuts - is what makes the videos so good. even though we may not get consistent uploads, i think the _quality_ of them definitely make up for it. i would be so sad to see the editing or little easter eggs in each vid change due to hiring an editor to put out more content each month.

      Agreed, it's always been the personal touch with the DTeams videos that appeal so much to me, would be very sad if an editor for frequent content's sake affected that. i'd rather have fewer uploads that are this nice because the rest of yt is filled with MC content, and imo its not worth losing the DTeam Touch for more content. those little inside jokes and memes that get to stay and random funny moments and stuff, all included alongside the great editing.

      I think an editor can learn their editing style over time, but I would be sad to miss out on just knowing that every cut, joke and edit was put in the vid by the dteam themselves if they hire editors. But ik like George hates editing videos so if getting an editor makes him happier with the process and put out more content, Im happy for them making it work anyway they need to

    To prevent the hostage from hoarding items you could limit the inventory/hotbar slots, so he would have to choose what he wanted to keep!

    Something I appreciate about with dteam editing, I think, particularly dream is that they haven't fallen into the trap of making shorter videos that are heavily edited. I understand why this format is so popular, there's the rises of shorter video format especially because of apps like tiktok and like RUclips shorts, as well as the aspect of needing to keep up watch time and retention. If you have a shorter video theres more of a chance that someone is going to watch the whole thing. I know a lot of editing goes into these longer videos, but they feel more authentic than shorter ones that have been designed to keep you there for as long as possible. Theres a lot of talent to be able to make these longer especially minecraft videos so captivating. it could be so easy to edit out the bits of minecraft, that even when your playing are boring. But in a way it feels better to keep these bits in as allows for the highs of the video to be that much more powerful. The shorter format is designed to give you the most amount of information at once without the room for a breather. I sometimes feel this format is designed in a way that makes it feel like it needs to hold your hand as you are watching it. Thats not always a bad thing, it allows for the chance of greater audiences but it also leaves no room for your own interpretation or thoughts about the video. It think thats something that was fun about the manhunt videos is that yes you are watching a dream video, but each viewer can decide who they're rooting for. You're not told who the "bad" or "good" guy is, its entirely up to the viewer. Obviously there is more to it, but the longer videos are always appreciated. That's not to say there isn't room for shorter content, obviously shorter videos are successful in minecraft content as well as othr genres of RUclips videos, but I always get excited for the longer ones sooo

    I think a time limit for bad being allowed to not be captured as a win condition would be good. i.e. if hes free for 20 min then he wins. it puts more incentivizes teamwork between the tamers and should solve the problem of bad not realizing hes free

    you have two hostages and they can free each other while you have only two people trying to get them to the end. I feel like that would be even more chaotic

      I don’t think that would work though, the two people would just keep them separated right? It could work as like a 2v2 thing with the two hostages but the hostage is apart of a team. And in order to win you have to free your hostage and take the enemies to the end or something

    VIDEO IDEA:
    "Yo-yo bodyguard"
    Dream has to defend Bad. George and Sapnap try to kill Bad.
    Bad can move up to 100blocks (tbd?) away from Dream, but Dream can instantly teleport Bad back to his location (like a yo-yo).
    So George and Sapnap have to decide whether to go after Dream or Bad. And they might need to split up just in case Bad teleports. Bad can probably also defend himself, unless you decide to do it assassin-style where it's a one-touch kill.
    Maybe Dream needs to be invincible so that the respawn mechanic doesn't teleport Bad super far away. The consequence for Dream dying could just be emptying his inventory or something.
    I think there would be a lot of opportunities for clever tricks/traps and jukes.
    EDIT: There should probably be a cooldown on Bad's teleportation

    The funniest thing in the world is everyone hanging Bad off of things to negotiate with him, especially when Sapnap lost his parience and just punched him forever 😂 I like the idea of two teams taking the hostage back to their base, like a capture the flag sorta deal

    This was such a cool concept especially when Bad started being more active trolling the others and stalling them. Maybe a goal for the hostage (so they can actually have a chance at winning) would be a time limit. The captors would have say 2 hrs to bring the hostage to the End.

    You could make Bad a more serious threat by giving him a "freedom" timer. So if he is unleashed for 30 minutes then he wins.
    I think the best part of the video was the 3-way dynamic and this would enhance that with more alliances backstabbing and chaos :D
    Edit: Glad to see you agree Bad needs a win condition. Bring on the craziness
    You could also have another mode where there are 2 teams: 1 speedrunner and 1 hostage.
    The speedrunner would have to take the opposing teams hostage to win
    while the hostage tries to escape and survive being abducted by the other team.

      @@jonathanwilcox8902 I like this idea a lot as well, but I went with this because I think aiming to go to a location still feels a bit unbalanced. Bad would be trying to run away anyway, and making the run away direction predictable makes it even harder for him (they can always leash him the other way).
      Unless you mean he gets multiple "win" destinations, which is really interesting, I have no idea how that would play out (which is probably good!)

    your guys’ lighthearted banter combined with the more intense moments work so well together. your videos never feel to fast, (or to slow) which is kinda rare nowadays. they’re always fun to watch :)

    What I really like about this challenge is that the 2 teams weren't very lopsided (in contrast to manhunt) and both teams got to have their fair share of W moments and L moments. I would love to see more videos with this aspect, and I think challenges with 3 teams could be even more interesting. You could split up your friend group into different combinations so the teams are different for each video.

    Maybe a way the hostage can win is if they get away for 5 minutes straight so it forces the people to have to focus more on finding him. Also when he gets caught the timer resets and when he gets off again in starts again

    Manhunt type video where you can shapeshift into different animals that have different buffs/weaknesses? Endermen can't touch water but can teleport, bunnies have a smaller hit box but are slower, horses are fast but run out of hunger quickly, that sort of thing? Doesn't have to be a manhunt either, just shapeshifting ideas would be cool. Prop and seek where you pretend to be mob NPCs or blocks in a certain radius would also be really fun! Playing minecraft on a really hard mod or something like that would also be entertaining (where you have to re-learn as you go along because the mobs and mechanics are different and that sort of thing).

    As far as Bad's goal, there could be a timer in play. If Bad can stay unleashed for (x) minutes, he wins. Of course, since I don't know how long it took for you guys to find him sometimes, it may be more difficult or tedious. It would work if you found an average of how long it took to leash Bad again and added a few extra minutes. Objectives work, maybe in a group of 4 or 5, like a bingo card. Find a biome, craft something, and kill a mob, as long as it doesn't coincide with beating the game. The further off the path these objectives are, the better.
    The best part about your content is the idea of a "victor." Whether manhunts or attempting to be shocked, the objective was to win despite the odds. With anything you do in the future, let the idea of a winner float around in the challenge. It can be solo or against others, but the idea is that someone ultimately wins, which feels like a well-fought victory. A small thing that could be fun would be giving blocks new special effects. Like in mc servers where sponges make you jump, soups can give full regen, and these mechanics add to your roster. You said it yourself, you win because of mechanics and can lose from them. Add more, make it feel more challenging, and create "if x happens, then y can add to it."
    I can't wait to see what you'll create. All of you push the boundaries of an open-world game, and I love it! Keep up the fantastic work, and hugs.

    I actually really liked this one! It could also definitely scale up to where whoever gets more hostages to The End wins instead of just 1 person. Bad was so smart in this one; it was SO good. I'm surprised he didn't build a house in the nether while completely submerged in lava. 😂

    this was such a cool concept and fun to watch :) for suggestions, you guys can add a timer where if it hits 0, the hostage immediately wins. you guys could also have more than 1 hostage, and they could free each other and basically team.

    What if every time the hostage killed a hunter they get a buff or item? Maybe 10 seconds of speed two or a few pearls or maybe even one damage, blindness or nausea potion so it’s easier to make a quick escape.
    Edit: Also I really enjoyed this content! Bad did such a funny job being the hostage and him being a menace was incredible to watch. This really does seem like it has a lot of potential, great idea!

    Ideas for goals for the hostage:
    - reach a certain amount of time without being leashed by the captors
    - kill all captors at least once
    - beat the end themselves
    Ideas to revamp or change the challenge:
    - teams of 2
    - teams but each person has a set captive and they have to compete to beat the end with their own captive
    - hostage can’t pick up items
    - hostage can die but respawns where they die
    Just some ideas I came up with on the spot - sorry if they’re weird or don’t make sense (I’m super tired rn) but maybe they could work :) awesome video as always and I’m excited to see where this challenge goes!

    I really do see some potential with the hostage concept. It felt very manhunt like with the perfect mixture of intense and funny moments. And obviously the clutches scattered throughout were nice to see.
    I think you are right in saying this video only has another 2 videos or so. Maybe you could do a rematch where instead of BadBoyHalo, AntFrost is the hostage. And if Dream wins, the finale is filmed with Awesamdude as the hostage. Viewers remember Ant and Sam from Manhunt so the familiar faces would be a treat.
    Here are some things I would like to see changed in order to refine the hostage concept.
    1. BadBoyHalo was way too overpowered. The fact he could shoot you with a bow, bed bomb you and set you on fire is insane. If you remove Bad’s ability to perform these moves, it will make the video a lot more smooth as you three won’t be dying every 2 minutes.
    2. You should have to defeat the ender dragon. Imagine bringing Bad into the end and having to fight the ender dragon whilst trying to keep him on the lead. It would be utter chaos. And the final winner is decided by whoever brings him into the portal which is opened up after killing the dragon (and don’t forget they could fly to the end city with bad which would make for an epic moment).
    3. I don’t think Bad should be invincible. In a real hostage situation, the goal is to keep the hostage alive and well. This should be an additional thing Dream, George and Sapnap have to worry about. Not only bringing Bad to the end, but keeping him alive in the process.
    Overall this was a brilliant concept and I am excited to see a potential ‘Minecraft Hostage Simulator REMATCH’. Also the idea of a 6 Hunters reunion has got me pumped!

    i love the concept of this! i think sap and george teaming up was cool and even if you did teams of two one trying to keep bad in the overworld and “safe” and the other trying to take him to the end would cause lots of banter and would be very entertaining!!

    - Defeat the Ender Dragon whilst having the hostage attached to a lead.

    An alt idea for this is have Dream be the hostage and help the person he is attached to, this is interesting because if you give him stuff and someone steals him, the person can just ask him for the stuff and steal it. Dream will change teams whenever he is stolen, if he is freed he will play as his own team and run away. If he does, his objective is to get to the end by himself. The difference with normal manhunts is that the hunters all play against each other and all they have to do is tag you and you belong to them and need to help them.

    i personally love nostalgia centered video ideas!
    here are some of mine:
    1. Anything to do with old parkour maps (or anything parkour, it’s very old school minecraft)
    2. Trying to beat minecraft but every time someone dies, you enter a new version of minecraft (you could start at 1.1 and go all the way to 1.19.1, etc.)

    It was really fun to see different strategies, but I think if this is going to be done again, maybe Bad should be given a win condition so he has some sort of motivation. Like maybe there's a timer that counts down whenever he is not connected to a lead, and he needs to escape for total amount of time like 1 hour or something.

    One other Idea about a unique video can be like treasure hunting ( where Dream needs to search for a particular treasure while being hunted or competing against other players) , or escaping an escape room full of traps designed by someone who knows that stuff, like the 100 floors but it would be a little more bound and a little more linear.

    So the game concept is really dope.
    Hostage should be killable but only has one life that both teams must be careful about.
    The hostage should be able to break out of the lead every now and again and be able to use shears to cut it.
    While the hostage is being pulled, maybe then they are unkillable just due to running strats.
    The hostage could steal items if they mine a player.
    Players could smack the hostage for a chance that an item pops out of their inventory with a cool down.
    Four or so slots are immune to hostage losing stuff as "hidden"
    The objective for hostage could be slowing players for a set amount of time, holding "exodia" pieces that are active when forced into the end, or getting to a zone and staying there long enough to win like king of the hill.

    ideas for a potential next video:
    -nerf the bow shooting so hostage can't attack players at all
    -for the hostage to win, add a time limit that will encourage the hostage to sabotage and waste your time
    -hostage stealing items is funny and they wouldn't have much chance of winning if that changed, so i think that's good
    -it's easy for the teams to end up in a back and forth with the hostage in a short amount of time, so maybe add a grace period of three or five seconds until the hostage can be stolen back (just to avoid a hot potato situation)
    this idea was really entertaining so not much needs to change, but i think implementing these ideas could make for an interesting part 2 (3 & 4 so everyone has a turn being the hostage?)

    I would be interested in seeing dream being the hostage and there's like 2 groups of 2 people that are trying to get him to the end. I think it would be very chaotic because of how slippery he plays plus they would have to try to get dream somewhere which would be funny :]
    Also maybe there could be a timer for how long the person can be on the leash so they can have more ways to actually try not to be a hostage.

    What if the hostage wins if he gets to the End by himself instead of as a hostage? Or manages to stay free for a reasonable period of time? You've talked a lot about nerfing the hostage, and I get that, but it's also worth noting that he DID lose, so don't nerf him too much!
    Whatever you do, PLEASE keep Bad as hostage. He's amazing.
    Also, I get that you're mostly moving on from manhunt, but it would be so interesting to see a manhunt with two runners who are also competing with each other. It would totally shift the dynamic and maybe allow for more hunters or just a different sort of competition. I don't expect that to actually happen, but it was an interesting, so I thought I'd share.

    I think a free-for-all would be pretty cool, it allows for more interesting nether team ups and backstabs! Also maybe something that would be interesting would be whoever currently has the hostage leashed can go up to them and take stuff from their inventory, the hostage can try to play keep away as their captor tries to open their inventory

    You should code it to where Badboy would get invisibility for 5-10 seconds after he gets released from the lead. Or if someone steals Badboy via Lead, they both get invis for 5-10 seconds. Possibly a speed boost could work too. And maybe Badboy gets randomized tools every so often like cobwebs or random splash potions of blindness. Really enjoyed the video though. Epic moves by both Dream and Sapnap. Hey from Kentucky. My 8 year old and I both love watching your videos together. It's a clean series that we both can enjoy.

    I think you could do this same hostage idea without invincibility (maybe even a pet instead of player), so the hostage’s health matters. If the hostage is a player, they will need an objective to prevent them from self-sabotaging. And maybe the two teams/players have different objectives instead of both trying to get to the End.

Although, I think Dream should have a partner next time. because let's be real, speedrunning the game while people are hunting you down is WAAAAAY different from beating the game while babysitting

    There definitely needs to be restrictions on the hostage, so they can’t just say swim away under the lava lakes where the others can’t get to them. And the hostage objective could just be to survive 2-3 hours or whatever a reasonable time is.
