Vintage is such an amazing brand. Very friendly staff and communicative. Wish they were well received in the states, not enough retailers sell or carry there instruments.
It sounds killer, I love the aggresiveness and the unrefined sound that the non split pickup produces (I think Leo got it right the first time). I can't wait to see the review of the v4!!
Been playing a Vintage V4 icon Precision for a few years now. Highly recommend. Had compliments from other bass players as well. The bass just seems to 'sing'. They're beyond the classic vibes and closing on the cheaper Fenders. Pretty sure I couldn't pick one from the other in a blind playtest. As for resale value, that was a bonus: bought it second hand, with case, for 180 euros. Very hard to beat.
The belly cut and forearm cut would make it a 54 body. That's when Leo did those contours. Interesting bass, not available in the states it seems. I think the name of the brand is holding them back. If you google "vintage bass" you don't get Vintage bass. A Seymour Duncan Quarter Pound single coil or their Stinger (Dusty Hill and Sting played it) will bring the low end and in my opinion are an improvement over the 51 sound. I really like the low end thump. I'm not a fan of the QP in general, but their single coil sounds really good. For bass I'd like to see, a Vintage VS4. I am really curious to how they made that one.
Just to clarify, the "Thumb rest" is placed there to rest your fingers whilst playing the strings with your thumb according to Leo Fender's original idea. Otherwise, nice videio.
Hi Jonny. Happy New Year! Im a left hander. I dont see the Squier 50s PB available as a left hander, so the single coil 50s RI options are the Harley Benton PB50, the Sire D5 or this Vintage (though the Sire is actually a split coil pretending to be single. What would your choice be, out of the three?
Fret sprouts have nothing to do with factory fret jobs, its the quality (greenness) of the wood used and occurs after production. The wood shrinks as it dries but the metal doesnt.
value for money, do some minor setup & ready to gig... all the "vintage" bass specs just reminds me of my squier CV 60s pbass coz i also changed the squier stock hardware to the wilkinson (WBBC 4 brass saddles bridge + WJBL-200 machine head) 😂 except for the pickup, i just love the stock pups from squier
I am interested in vintage basses. I like pj basses so would go for the V42. If you can get a hold of one for review that would be nice. This V51 also sounds great. Nice review, thank you.
Hello Jonny, thanks for the great vid. i have bought a second (or third) hand Vintage V4 (split coil Precision) that I like a lot ! It is resonnant and has a great tone with flats in my opinion. I have removed the gloss on the neck, shielded the cavity and changed the pots. It is also very light (3.7kg). I didn't have the opportunity to try one of these V51. Did you notice if it this one is particularly light or heavy ? thanks
dear mr. dibble. i am in the market for a P type bass. brands considered are sire (marcus miller P5R) and the offerings from vintage. do you dare to judge which of the basses will likely offer the best bang for the bucks?! everyone else on YT - pls feel free to join in and issue reccomendations. TY, ne1 ❤
I think Vintage brand guitars and basses are an absolute bargain on the used market - you get a LOT for your money. Even if they need a bit of a seeing to from a luthier, they're worth the investment.
Vintage is such an amazing brand. Very friendly staff and communicative. Wish they were well received in the states, not enough retailers sell or carry there instruments.
Great all round! Ah that IS a shame!
Maybe because of Squier/Fender putting some pressure on those retailers...(?) Because they know Vintage's quality is good enought to compete (?)

I LOVE IT TOO!!! LEO GOT IT RIGHT FIRST TIME IMHO

Amazing! I’d say the top end Squiers beat the low end fenders anyway!
I have their version of a music man and the jazz bass. Both sound really good and are comfortable. Very impressed with them.
I'm considering getting one of their MM style basses V96 5 string. Great videos as always!
Thing sounds killer with the flats, it's more of a V54 as the tummy and arm cutaways were introduced in 1954. I kinda need a 54 Pbass in my life...
Aha! That would be a more apt name then. Thanks for the wisdom!
No problem, I kinda became a Fender historian of sorts over the years lol@@JonnyDibble
Flats all the life!
Great video, I have the distressed black Vintage Icon 74 Jazz bass and it is nice, would like to see you review it sometime, great channel, Thank you!

Amazing video man thanks for sharing this. Huge fan of Vintage brand.❤🎉
Can’t go wrong with a bit of vintage goodness 🔥
Add Vintage = advantage

Correct, but you don’t rest your thumb on it! Thanks so much 😀
Killin' review, playing, bass. Do one on Vintage VS4?
One of my band's guitarists plays a Vintage Les Paul copy, which is also pretty decent 🙂
Both the guitarrists on my banda use vintage les Paula with seymour Duncan humbuckers and they sound killer, very good platform for upgrades
For sure!

Honestly, I like the Sire and Harley Benton! The HB was incredible for the price. The necks on the passive sires are very very hard to beat though 🔥
Jonny's really working that length at between 2.40 and 3.00, the youtube cops are not amused😉
Sounds good and looks nice, and very affordable👍

True, I’ve seen some bad ones put the factory though!
Great tone, flats + amp + 100% tone was my favorite

Wilkinson tuners and bridge with brass saddles, alder body, and cheaper than the Squier 50s P-bass!

Nice!! Argh I always forget to weigh them. It’s heavier than the V4 I have. It’s 9.2lbs (4.17kg)
@@JonnyDibble outch heavy. Thanks
Hello Jonny
Thank you for this video, can you tell me after 9 months what you think now about this bass ?
@@Running08wolf hey! Unfortunately this one was just on loan, so I don’t have it anymore!
Love it! ❤How does it compare to the sire D5?
Sire D5 was set up worse out of the box, but the neck was superior 🔥
Thanks! Very good made bass and sounds good, but i looking something for this price with ASH body..🎸🤔
Cheers, awesome review as always! How would you say this feels and sounds compared to the Harley Benton PB-50 though?
Thanks! I’d say this sounds gnarlier and has better build quality. I really liked the HB feel and sound for the money though!!
Sounds great

Hi! 👋 I recommend the Squier 40th Anniversary Vintage, Sire P5 and the Ashdown Saint (PJ bass). All great in their own rights!
Same for me, I'm looking forward to reading replies
Where can I get one?
I am always impressed with your ability to just groove on these demos. I have zero improvisational skills.
Glad I’m not the only one. With drums I can do so, but bass is its own talent. I kindve wish there was tabs just to get the idea of it down
Looks like the strings that came on it are dean markleys, not my favourite either
How does it compare to the Sire D5?
See Jonny's reply to my question, I asked the same thing.
@@engineer6250 need to refresh next time😛
Hope that answered your question! The necks of those passive sires are UNREAL
@@JonnyDibble looks like i need to keep saving for that Sire....#
Why is it that when the Tone control is not in use it's 100% but, when it's totally in use it's 0%?
@@miguelfernandes333 normally you refer to tone all the way open as 100% ☺️
Need a left handed option

Absolutely!
