    Can you hook accessories such as fish finders, trolling motors, etc directly to the shut-off switch as well? Thanks

    • @HammerIIHammer
      @HammerIIHammer  2 года назад

      Accessories like fish finders usually have to go through a fuse box due to being lower voltage. But trolling motors should be fine, I would check the manual that comes with it first but I wouldn’t for-see an issue.

    • @mag7mm1
      @mag7mm1 2 года назад

      You should have a dedicated power from battery to fuse box for everything not connected to motor, if you were to connect this power to the same lug as motor starter, when you turn off the switch it would cut power to motor and all fused accessories.

    What size drill bit did you use for the mounting holes? Thank you

      Hi I’m not sure as I just held the screw up against the drill bits and found one that was very very slightly smaller than the screws that came with it.

    Not that it will matter but why did you use a black new wire. Would it not make sense to use red.

    • @HammerIIHammer
      @HammerIIHammer  3 года назад +2

      Local auto store only had black, they were out of red, as that is what I was going to do but I had the day off to get it done. Would have used red if they had it tho.

    Hello , desperately need help , watching your video, i have a battery disconnect for my rv i just bought, my rv has 2 12 volt batteries. This shut off switch on the inside has 3 terminals. One marked number 1, another marked number 2, another marked C. The directions tell me to put number 1 battery negative to number 1 post inside switch. The next says to put number 2 battery negative to the number 2 terminal inside switch. Next is where im really screwing up. It says to put a new wire from terminal C inside switch to starter. Can you possible tell me step by step what to do with that new wire? I dont no if this goes to a positive on the battery, a negative on the battery, or am i supposed to splice this into the main live that also goes to battery and to camper. Thank you so much any help will be truly appreciated. John

    So we have to buy 2 cables, a black and red for each terminal? Thanks!

      hope, not sure why he used a black cable? just take the red cable off the battery and hook it to the switch, then another red cable from the switch back to the battery

  • @joethrailkill1603

    They sell red cables. Why wouldn't you use red for the positive side

    Shouldn't you be putting that on the negative terminal?

  • @OregonPanoramas
    @OregonPanoramas 2 года назад +3

    This doesn't make sense to me . You said you are hooking the red to the battery and the black to the other side of the battery. If you turn your switch on you will have a direct short.

    • @Rgrb1921
      @Rgrb1921 Год назад

      Can you explain this? I did this same exact thing today. Connected my black from my accessories to the switch. Put the black short wire on the same switch terminal. Same thing with red. As soon as I turned switch on it started smoking and arcing.

    • @OregonPanoramas
      @OregonPanoramas Год назад +1

      @@Rgrb1921 Sounds like you created a dead short on the battery. I forgot I had. Commented on this post. Actually he did ALMOST everything correctly in the post except he mad it confusing by 1) using a black wire in the + side of the circuit. That will confuse people. That wire should be red to make it obvious that you are just installing a switch in the positive side and not involving the negative side at all. 2) when he showed the terminal on the battery, he should have said “This is the positive terminal”. Look at his drawing. It is correct. He did nothing with the original black wire. The negative side is to be left alone.
