Google Sheets - How to Sort Dates into Chronological Order [Updated]
HTML-код
- Опубликовано: 15 окт 2024
- Learn how to sort dates into chronological order using two different methods. First, we'll use Data Validation, and then we will use the ISDATE function.
Choose which one works best for your spreadsheet, and your dates will sort chronologically.
This video came about because a previous video about sorting dates got a comment from @DumbSathanass pointing out that I never actually sorted the dates in the video! Keep the comments coming.

Thanks so much. I went from Excels to google sheets and some of the differences are making me nutty. This helped with such a simple task. Thanks for the tutorial.
I bet you'll never go back!
Thanks so much, im in a employment tribunal. I have my list of events etc in my book. Have you got a video for ' how to write a chronological order with this ' ? You make it look so easy
Can you synchronize dates from your Apple iPhone- I see the “desktop” includes “date” “sort “ where is that option on the iPhone?

Straight to the point❤❤❤ good vid
When I click on Data Validation I get a completely different prompt which doesn't give me the options you got. Anyways what I'm looking is for ways to sort week numbers from last year and this year so it doesn't move this year's weeks into the front of week numbers 49-52 of last year
when need to click on sort range and advance range sorting options
Thank you. The weird thing is I puit these colored bars in certain rows, in order to divide weeks. Google sheets did something hillarious when I flipped the table, (which worked perfectly by the way). It collected up all of the bars, and just piled them up at the bottom of the spreadsheet. I guess it didn't know what to do with them lol. I just added them back in. Thank you again!
Whoa dude.
I want to organize the dates chronologically but in google sheets pivot, it is sorted by month alphabetically such as Apr, Aug. I want the google sheet pivot rows to be sorted as Jan, Feb, Mar etc. Please help! Thanks!
Maybe something like add a column to the source data using the MONTH function ran on the date column. This will return month numbers. Then, use this as a column in the pivot table and it should sort them in order.
Thank you. While I was awar of how to sort columns and validate, I didnt know you double could click on the lower right of the auto-complete to fill to the bottom (doh).
Guess that is why I watch those videos :D
It saves a ton of time. Now it's painful to watch people use a spreadsheet when they don't know the trick.
Great video helped big time but the dates didn't stay with the item associated with the dates. Smh
How to sort the entire row?
Select the entire range you want to sort before you sort it.
Thank you so much, this was so easy to follow !
Glad it helped!
Thank you so much sir in this 6 minutes video you have solved my all doubts which I was finding in RUclips since last 3-4 days but now I got your vid 👍
Love from India ❤️
Awesome! I get great viewers from India for sure!
How do you do this one your Apple mobile?
I know I've seen this done. Is there a way to just click on, say, where you have "Date" in the column and it sorts it for you?
Apply a filter to the data, then you can do this.
I actually am looking for an easy way to change the month in a column of dates so I can update a dashboard. Right now in order to do that I have to manually click on each cell and change from June to July. It's tedious and I'm wondering if there's an easier way to do this.
Maybe break the date down with the MONTH, YEAR, and DAY functions then put it back together again adding one to the MONTH. See here for a bit more: sheetshelp.com/month/
Is there a way to sort or set "Comments" so they appear newest to oldest?
Not that I'm aware of. Would be nice though!
how do I sort by MM only when I have dates with different years?
Try adding a column with the MONTH function and sort by that.
Thank you so much. This is very helpful
Very helpful! Thank you!

How do I change it to a British Date format?
Go to the Spreadsheet settings in the menu. Change your locale.
