I love pickling and fermenting... Wonderful gift ideas! I have some glass containers that are very old and heavy they work well for my Mexican red onion pickling I refrigerate for best flavor and preserve quality. when I ferment cabbage, I love old-fashioned crock jars, and I am crazy about a good kraut!! Yummy. Thanks for all the great ideas. I love your German crock!! If I ever get back to Germany, I think I will find some interesting kitchen ideas... Last time we got some wonderful knives. Cookware is also good over there. Thank you for all the ideas!
I bought my husband that big gallon crock a few years ago. He put some pickles? kimchi? something? in it like... ten months ago and it's been in the basement ever since. We don't have the guts to open it up. I think he's going to go dump it on the burn pile in the wayyyyy back of the property this weekend.
I say give it a look, a smell and then a taste...please do let me know how it goes. Pickles? i'd toss you are right they are mush...but cabbage or especially Kimchi might be fantastic!
