I feel like both live and studio are fantastic. The live version serves as a nice alternative to the original, while the original is just nice and brutal
I agree the live red rocks versions is sooo heavy and dense. The production on the studio version is excellent too but the live version should be dubbed to the soundtrack to the creation of the universe it’s that heavy!!
Yes, as some people already said, Gojira is the Japanese name for Godzilla. As far as Power Rangers, technically the inspiration for the Dragonzord and the giant monsters came from the Toho kaiju, but Power Rangers itself uses stock footage from a long running Japanese series called Super Sentai along with American actors.
Hey guys! So glad you got to my suggestion. I was hoping for you to react to the live version of this one but it's totally fine, studio version is still amazing and I can tell you guys really enjoyed it! Gojira are one of the best live metal bands so a lot of the time listening to the live version can be even better than the studio version! So first of all, yes their name is absolutely supposed to be the Japanese pronunciation of Godzilla. Their name actually WAS Godzilla until they had to change it for legal reasons, so they chose Gojira! These guys have been around since 1996 and this song is off of their 2016 album "Magma" so they've been around for a little bit now. Mario (the drummer) is often referred to as one of the best metal drummers doing it right now so you are right to praise him so much, haha. Also, Mario and Joe (guitarist / vocalist) are actually brothers! And trust me, there is a reason that these guys get suggested to you so much, they are one of the most recognizable names in modern metal. They have an almost infinite amount of incredible songs it seems like so I would love to see you guys go down their rabbit hole more! Personally I would suggest either "Flying Whales" or "The Art of Dying" next from them! And to answer your last question for me, I think the Tool comparison is definitely fair but as far as I know Tool is not that big of an influence on Gojira's music, at least compared to some other bands. This album that this song is on was a bit of a shift in Gojira's sound to a bit of a softer place overall. Their earlier stuff has much more death metal influence and they have kind of moved from that into more progressive rock territory, and I can definitely see the Tool vibes in some of their stuff. Both have incredible drummers, good grooves, and vocalists that are capable of the softer and more intense styles, especially in Pray. I'm really glad that you guys enjoyed this and can't wait to hopefully see some more Gojira in the future!
HOWDY FROM NEW ENGLAND...GOJIRA FORMED IN 1995 A FEW YRS AFTER TOOL STARTED...IM A DRUMMER AND IT TOOK ME 4 MONTHS TO LEARN THIS SONG NOTE FOR NOTE...MARIO DUPLANTIER IS THE BEST PROG ROCK DRUMMER OF THE PAST 20 YRS...KEEP THE GOJIRA COMING...EXPLOSIA (YOU CAN REALLY HEAR MARIO'S JAZZ CHOPS IN THIS ONE..) OR DELIVERANCE ARE GOOD SONGS TO HIT...PEACE FROM THE NORTHEAST..
The shooting star, low lands, PAIN IS A MASTER, born in winter, the gift of guilt, backbone, oroborus, vacuity, esoteric surgery, flying whales, the heaviest matter o the universe, liquid fire, the axe just to name a few
I'm a veteran drummer of 30+ yrs and most drumming consists of coordination, timing and the defying of individual muscles to function separately at the same time lol it takes a lot of practice patience and determination. As for Gojira...Heaviest matter of the universe
Hey Hollywood, it was great to chat to you "in person" over the weekend and also great to see some of the other Trash Talkers during the IG live chat. Made my day! I'm sticking with the recommendation I gave you: Gojira - Art of Dying. IMO its even better than this, and this is brilliant.
Gojira, Meshuggah, Opeth, Tool. While all four of them are their own thing, you almost can't listen to any one of them without at least some reference to the other three.
If you want to hear more of Mario's great drumming I recommend: Love, In the Forest, Remembrance, Where Dragon's Dwell live at Hellfest, Esoteric Surgery. Mario is more acurate than an atomic clock. I'm a drummer myself anf after years of practice you can feel the rhythm. I don't count anymore, it just feels right...and I listen to the guitarist ;) But to be serious, I don't think about the stuff I play anymore because when I think about it, I make mistakes, I just play and let it flow. It's interesting that the body can remember so many movements.
A bit of info on the drummer Mario Duplantier. There are multiple Gojira songs that have actually derived from drum exercises. These songs start out as patterns and rhythms that he comes up with and the rest of the music is then written and structured around Mario. Pray actually being one of them. Explosia, Esoteric Surgery, The Art of Dying are some other examples of this just to name a few. Lastly, you guys are probably going to see a ton of comments stating that you guys should have done the live Red Rocks version of Pray. Gojira are awesome as it is but their live performances are very much legit. You guys rock man! 🤘🏻
Please try "Deliverance", "In the Forest", "Remembrance", "Indians", "The Heaviest Matter of the Universe", "Flying Whales", "Oroborus", "The Art of Dying", "L'Enfant Sauvage", "Born in Winter", "Silvera" or "Stranded" next time!
Hollywood said twice "This drummer is going bananas". Twice it was for a Gojira song's reaction. Pray, and The Gift of Guilt before. Looking forward to hearing/watching your next Gojira reaction :D Maybe "Flying Whales" - Live at Polandrock. As many comments say, it's a band worth listening live. And going to their awesome concerts, when the world will be better
Excited to see you discover Gojira. Scrolled through your library to see if you reacted to more King Gizzard and the Lizard Wizard. Sadly you haven't done anyway since Crumbling Castles like 6 months ago :/ . Would love to see your reaction to their song Intrasport. They've have an extensive and excellent library.
Start them with the newest Gojira then work em back. Jinjer, Gojira, meshuggah, all big rabbit holes. But now that you’re covering them guys you gotta do some Tech N9ne. Anything off the Ever-ready Album. And Hed Pe. Ohh Do the Hed pe song for Snot Straight Up! Keep it up! More Gojira always
Mario is a Danny level drummer in his own way. Also regarding the Tool comparison, my first exposure to Gojira was someone calling them a mixture of Tool and Meshuggah.
The recent live version of this from Red Rocks is one of the greatest live jams I've ever heard. Otherwise Art of Dying, Flying Whales, Heaviest Matter... Hard to go wrong with these guys... a real rabbit hole.
@@ThaTruth223 thank you so much for saying that! So many poser ass fanboys always diss that track because it’s on “Magma”. Which is an amazingly beautiful album in a league of its own!
Back in the 80's there was a weekly TV program called voltron and ultra man Japanese TV shows but somehow they made it over here in the USA. Check those out
Très bien. Bonne réaction. As other people said you definitely should check the live version at red rocks. Mario Duplantier is a beast drummer, one of the best in the world. Gojira has songs that will blow your mind. Even more live.
This came up after watching Sweat, apparently ive already liked this one, but I Love this so g to, so rewatching, but Dunno why this just triggered my memory hearing Dax Riggs' "Song With No Name" last night at work, and thought the lyrics/mood of the song sounds like Yall would be able to incorporate it into Yall's Halloween countdown, plus The Acid Bath Shirts.... & Still No Dax... I Object, with All The Love for You Both!!😊
Prog doesn’t just mean polyrhythms although they are very common amongst bands considered prog, progressive just means doing things different. Many bands who aren’t particularly technical are quite prog such as the deftones and system of a down it is their uniqueness and originality that makes them proggy not intricate and or complex musicianship although of course they are brilliantly skilled. Some prog could be simplistic just out there for example although pantera are a very classic kinda dirty metal band the song “walk” could be considered a prog song because the usage of just two chords is so experimental and unique. More mainstream sounding rock can also be prog such as queens of the Stone Age. Remember classic prog such as rush and floyd could be catchy and soft. Much love my brothers peace
TT you all are rappers. How about some old school rap? Would really enjoy your reaction to some BEASTIE BOYS. These three PUNK ROCKERS changed HIP HOP. Their influence is undeniable.
Don't feel too bad, I requested hed pe and it took almost 6 months to get it, and Sevendust in like July of last year, and barely just got it. Patients I guess
With most bands, I generally prefer studio recordings, but I will say I was completely blown away when I got to see them for the first time at a festival in 2019 (you know, when concerts still existed.) The amount of sincere energy they put into a show is top-tier. I personally enjoy this video on the band members' concert preparation: ruclips.net/video/Z2N9FQOC_dA/видео.html

Nice to get the album version done, but now the Red Rocks live version is a must. The good side of doing it in this order is you will know the difference.
You have to do more Meshuggah. Clockwork drum cam version. Like astrophysics in stereo. There are the biggest influence for all those metal bands like Gojira. They "invented" Djent (actually a technigue on guitars, Palm mute) Gojira- L'enfant sauvage good song.
The extended live version at Red Rocks is 10x better than the studio one, and that goes to most of their songs, Gojira is a live band!
So true....
This one is definitely better live
@Chris M 100 %

Truest shit i ever heard in my life
Born in Winter, Vacuity, Stranded, Flying Whales, Silvera...
Born in Winter is awesome.
Where Dragons dwell live, art of dying, clone, love, last creation
Gojira - Heaviest Matter of the Universe; Vacuity; Flying Whales.
It’s not some people, their name IS the Japanese pronunciation of Godzilla. Gojira the band used to be Godzilla the band but they changed to Gojira.
Fun fact: it means "gorilla whale"
Gojira is like Opeth or Meshuggah. They don't have a genre, they ARE a genre.
Yes, as some people already said, Gojira is the Japanese name for Godzilla.
