Then didn't know if you saw, but the reason its showing 3GB is the Lakka version your using is probably a 32bit version. Also, you have an extra k in your Lakka in the title.
Hi. Thanks for your contributions and tutorials. I have a question, if you had to choose between the Raspberry Pi 3B + and Rock64. which one would you choose?
Random comment : maybe do a video (videos) on retro gaming on and jail breaking of apple products. I actually hate Crapintosh with a passion but a friend recently asked me to set up retro gaming on his iSad mini and Im stuck. I love the way you break it down ETA! Much love!
Thanks ETA Prime, I do enjoy these single board computers, can't wait for the next Generation of boards with even more powerful, CPU & GPU combination, hopefully the Pi 4 when it arrives will be awesome, but i fear that we are going to need liquid cooling to stop the bugger from throttling. Which brings me around to the point of overclocking this Rock 64 board, is that possible, do you think?
I'm having issues with Lakka / Retroarch supprting my PS4 joysticks when connected with USB cable - the joystick is detected correctly (checked in dmesg) but half the buttons are not recognised. I have tried 3x different PS4 joysticks (all working on PS4 with no isses), different USB cables and different USB ports on my amlogic build of Lakka. Same issue with an xbox one controllor - but a XBOX 360 and USB receiver work with no issues. So just problems with current gen joysticks?
Cool vid. I got an old rock64 v2.0 board with 1GB RAM. It's okay, but it won't boot any images with 4.4 kernels, only the 5.10's. So far no video hardware accel. But that will change once the right mali 400 video drivers are located and installed.
Thank you for this video, I am fascinated by these boards and there are a lot of them. Not sure why I am so fascinated with them though... I have a Shield TV Pro and N64 works just fine on it and all the emulators work great, but part of me still wants to "build" one of these boxes... I think it might be all those preconfigured images for SD cards. Not sure I want to mention the web page but they are punks :P lol But the idea of just downloading like a 32GB or 64GB image and tossing it on a SD card with no configuration woes. That appeals to my lazy side :) RomFlix ftw? It takes a bit to set up but it's so awesome :)
My rpi3 b+ runs psp games decently playable and fft plays fune but some special effects have bad lag but they load. Symphony of the night plays masterfully 😊 also i can run AAshaders at 1x with psp/x. No overclocking but some tweaks on my lakka set up. Psp games i tested were prinny game and ff6 remake.
I am running rock65 v3 1gig. I want to thankyou for directing me to the Pine64 Etcher. Actually managed to get Lakka 2.3.1 installed onto my Rock. I connected a Netgear Wifi dongle with no results. It works in my pc so I know the dongle works. Are there specific dongles that will work with Rock64? Is it just better to connect via ethernet? And where in the world did you get all the content on that board?
If anyone wants to steal the Raspberry Pi's thunder they'd be best making a board that you could just take your SD card from your Pi with Retropie on, and stick it straight in the new board.
Any progress on the software side for the original Pine64? I have 2 Kickstarter boards that I not using currently because last I checked there were no great software options. I'd love to be able to use them for gaming.
why dont you use 720p resolution or screen smoothing while gaming at native resolution. we all have nice tvs now and would like to know the real performance of these boards with screen smoothing enabled. thanks for your videos etaprime ive been watching your videos now for 2 yrs..
"32-bit OS's can only use 3GB of RAM." 32-bit systems can address up to 4GB of RAM (2^32 = 4,294,967,296 bytes). Showing only 3GB RAM on a system with 4GB installed is a Linux thing, and requiring PAE to show the full 4GB isn't required on other OS' for some reason. Regardless, it's not a limitation of 32-bit addressing.
I've used both releases of Lakka on the same 4gb board. It freezes every time right after boot. Only happens with Lakka, all other distros work fine. Any thoughts?
The problem are there are plenty of very powerful SBCs out there, but they all don't have anywhere close to the software compatibility or support that the much slower and older Raspberry Pie 3 hardware has.
Great video as ever. Just a thought though - is GoldenEye really a good choice to test performance when on original hardware the frame rate often dips to teens and single figures?
Ben Hillman well it's a game a lot of people like and it regularly pushes the hardware of single board computers so it is valid to stress test. Not necessarily the best light for it but a good demo.
I got this board but the performance aren't so good. You can't even play snes games with a crt shader. And Lakka is giving me a lot of issues, starting by the fact I can't download the cores, for example I can't download mupen64 and I have available only parallel.
I'm still waiting for a 3399 or something more powerful as a small desktop replacement here. I already have 2 pis as a seedbox and server but most powerful SBCs don't really have stable desktop options. Would something like Phoenix OS run nicely on this?
NE0MEW Really? I think I read they are planning to just start producing them in like June just a couple days ago. Are they speeding up the process? That one cached my eye, it's practically a H96 Max in specs so it should perform great.
I tried every operating system on this page 3 times or more wiki.pine64.org/index.php/ROCK64_Software_Release all except the KODI have problems, about every 4 months I get the Rock64 out of the box download and try all the operating systems again in hopes they will have all the bugs worked out and they dont!
Sorry guys had to re-upload this one because the end was cut off
OK. Apology Accepted.... ;)
maZec31 LoL

Not a problem ETA Prime, and Thanks for creating this video for us.
ETA PRIME have you heard that there is a Windows 10 build for Raspberry Pi 3 being made? Novaspirit Tech did a video about it!
Glad you fixed it. I couldn't do anything else until I found out how it ended. The suspense was killing me.
Hi. Thanks for your contributions and tutorials. I have a question, if you had to choose between the Raspberry Pi 3B + and Rock64. which one would you choose?
Best single board channel 👍
Great video as always! Looking forward to the Rock64 with KODI review.
Raspberry Pi W will do BETTER than the Rock64 when used with Kodi
They now have the ROCKPRO64

Good videos man keep it up👍
I'm waiting for the day you say..
Now I'm testing out the PS4 and Xbox 1.
Thanks ETA Prime,

Just wondering if you have tried any USB 3.0 UVC HDMI capture devices on any of these devices like the magwell?

Cool video. Do you use the Emmc or the microSD for system?
When you do emulation, can you run Crash team racing? Some emulators crash at the very beginning and that could be a good starting point.
The Pine64 Installer does not work anymore, Error 404 when selecting OS. I guess it is outdated, as are other OS in their Forums. Too bad....
Will this puppy fit in a nespi pie case🤔🤔🤔
yes, drill out the power port
Its 32-bit. Why it only shows 3GB of RAM. 32-bit OS's can only use 3GB of RAM unless you use the PAE kernel.

whats the most powerful rpi3 size board in your opinion?
The problem are there are plenty of very powerful SBCs out there, but they all don't have anywhere close to the software compatibility or support that the much slower and older Raspberry Pie 3 hardware has.
Will you be testing the new RockPro64? It looks like a nice SBC.
Great video as ever. Just a thought though - is GoldenEye really a good choice to test performance when on original hardware the frame rate often dips to teens and single figures?

odroid n1 coming soon running a Rockchip RK3399 cpu :)

but there is a rockpro 64 coming at somepoint as well
I swear someone needs to hack the Simpsons rom to allow a 4 player with any character.. not just the default character you're assigned.
Gary Stinten, you just play as whatever player, say player 3 to play as Bart, but connect only one controller, to play as that character.
Will Lakka play mp4 and mkv video files larger than 4gb?
how about opencv programming projects compared to the RPi3? 8'/
You think about trying ROCKPro64?
Could you do a review on te ROCKPRO64?
Does it work well with Android TV? Do casting work for it?
Have you tried installing Linux on there and using it like a miniature desktop?
I tried every operating system on this page 3 times or more wiki.pine64.org/index.php/ROCK64_Software_Release all except the KODI have problems, about every 4 months I get the Rock64 out of the box download and try all the operating systems again in hopes they will have all the bugs worked out and they dont!
Oh raspberry pi can run psp just fine.
how to installed on pine A64 ?? im using Android image
Can you run Ps2 games with it?
is this better then orange pi prime
retropie compatible as well?
Darn, not even worth picking up. Really thinking about just buying an nvidia shield
If I'm not mistaken you were running a 32 bit OS on a 64 bit CPU... Might run better with a 64 bit OS build up
wow
Been testing out the ps3 emulator gotten 6 games to run full speed and apparently there's a lot of games that run very good
Jeff Stinnett what is the PS3 emulator called?
Gary Stinten rpcs3
With time, performance will increase? Well put it in a box for ten years and see how well it runs then.
It's called optimization.
Great video - a good overview of the board. Thanks for your excellent coverage of sbc's and retro gaming.
