Loved this episode!!! Not only is Richard Petty the "King", he's also a great guy!!! He always seem more than willing to do an interview/show. He's the definition of a true champ!!!
When I was a firefighter (back in the day lol) I would volunteer at Sears Point for their fire/rescue teams, One of my many wondrous trips was for nascar 1990 (If I remember right) at the end of the day Richard invited ALL of us Firefighters to one hell of a BBQ and beer bust...what a family! As he cracked open the first beer (of many lol) he called for a toast, and I quote "To you...America's bravest"! They were so accommodating and just so down to earth...the King had a gazillion questions about what we did as he loved firefighters, even let us get our pix in the cars and all kinds of cool stuff! Class act that family...thank you Richard!
I was blessed in 98 to meet King Richard ( by accident, I bumped into him as I was backing away from a racecar in the garage area ) At the Daytona 500!! He is an amazingly wonderful human being! God Bless you Sir. Thank you for EVERYTHING YOU did for the sport!!!
Super cool video. Thank you. I know for sure that Richard Petty is a really good guy, as common and as country as moms' apple pie. Thanks again. #43🏁 Mike Pardue

I’m from North Carolina and even though I was a huge fan of the Holman-Moody prepared Ford Galaxies I was proud that this humble man was an ambassador of NC even though he was putting out a butt whippin’ on my beloved Fords. I remember reading in the newspaper that he was given a ticket by the Highway Patrol and had to appear in court for losing patience with an out of state motorist who refused to move out of the fast lane so Richard ran up to the left lane bandit and just like in racing Richard planted a “nudge” on the guy’s back bumper. That’s racin’

I have been a fan of Richard Petty since I was a little kid. He drove a Dodge Charger and it was blue and red. Blue is my favorite color and my mother had a Charger. Oh and he won races too! That was how I became a fan
I’ve got a 40 Pontiac that I found a old bottle opener in. Story I got was the car was parked in a field in the mid 50s. My 66 Chevy impala had a trunk full of old mopar and ford racing products alongside the stuff that was supposed to be on its little 283

@@BeatersRus same here man, when we lost Dale Sr. I totally quit watching and I certainly haven't missed much if anything at all.....as Richard himself told Graham Bensinger in an interview I watched earlier, "The only thing that's the same today is, they drop a green flag at the start and a checkered at the finish, everything else is different, it's not racing anymore, it's a show!" Then tried to sugar coat it some, just so he don't get flack from NASCAR I'm assuming!
I met Richard a couple times. Once in Randelman and once at Indy. Met Kyle at Nazareth Speedway, poor guys trailer was hit on the way to the track. Car was damaged but he got the pole. He led like 134 laps and the engine blew. Kyle was going to the trailer and almost ran me over 😮. I was working security for Roger Penske who owned the track at the time. Felt bad though Kyle didn't win the race. Been watching and following the Petty's since 1968.
I thought David Pearson and Richard Petty were the most friendliest rivals of all time and were just power houses winning races and both of them being on the same team Holman@Moody 69 Ford Torino Taledega. That is Awesome 2 of the best and I mean best drivers of all time. The Silver Fox and King Richard.
Fun program. Though a car in a museum, sold on eBay doaesnt qualify as a "Barn find", Beer cans or not. And lastly.. I never realized how much a good haircut counts toward host-relate-ability.
I don't know why you guys think it's cool or hip or cutting edge to move the camera around while the host is talking, but it doesn't improve the product one bit and only serves to give the viewer a headache. Keep the camera still and save us all a headache or two. Or I'll just watch something else that doesn't give me a headache under the guise of being cool!

I hate to refresh the Kings memory but the it was the Dodge Charger 500 that was being planned in 1968, NOT the Daytona......the Daytona did not appear until late 1969.
Yeah, it sucks that it goes on eBay and then somebody buys it with unlimited sources and it goes sits in the museum and nobody can touch it. That sucks.

Yes, Petty talks about the fact that the car was good in a straight line but wouldn't turn......the FACT Petty only won 3 times ina a superbird but he won 8 times in the Talledega Torino

yeah right, I thought he was going to show what they did with that old coupe! Seems that wasn't the case after all....cool episode but more of a click bait when all was said and done!
I will not ever forget Petty winning one important race with the Torino, showing the world that with the right driver Ford's 428 Wedge will take a Hemi, it is a Myth that the Hemi can't be out Performed, short run or long, even the Chrysler 440 was just as good and many Men who knew that the Hemi was not all that it was made out to be, won many races.TAKE A FORD OVER A CHRYSLER, DODGE OR PLYMOUTH ANY DAY!!!
took you seeing Petty win, to learn if you know how to race, and have to right skills. just about any engine/car can win? i say just about cause if you try to drag race a 1,000 Hp dragster with a 15 Hp lawn mower you'll lose.
The Talladega actually ran a BOSS 429 engine in the NASCAR version but the street Talladegas came with the 428 Cobra Jet,which was a much better street engine than the temperamental BOSS 429
@@jeremythompson9895 true. Two things all people who know anything about a hemi with a carburator knows, they are very temperamental and they are awesome when tuned correctly. They are not for the beginner.
The boss 429 was kind of like the hemi in design from what I hear. I've heard it called a semi hemi. Ford should've put a bigger carb and less restrictive exhaust manifolds on the boss from the factory. If they did that it would probably be just as good a performer as the 426 hemi. The boss 9 actually came with a smaller carburetor than a boss 302 from the factory
You have to do all those modifications to the Chargers and Challengers to make them somewhat better, just to "TRY" to stay up with base model Mustangs and Camaros V6's!!!! Hahaha!!!!!!!!!
You are a joke. Petty just made them 1000 hp before Dodge decided to do it. There's no rustang or rat out there that can touch a stock one much less a Petty, Hell Cat or Demon. There's not even one out there that can outrun one of my Mopar's and I own several.
Yea what are you talking about??? A Hellcat Challenger is one of the fastest cars on Earth...bone stock!!! Just stick to your Honda Civics and VW Jettas with fart can exhausts

IT's not the same car. Not even close. The Daytona has better aero numbers and was a purpose built car from the start. The nose and wing will not swap between cars and they are totally different. The nose and wing were designed for and fit the Charger. The Super Bird was a 70 Road Runner from the firewall back. They had to add Coronet front fenders and hood. Then they had to weld a panel onto the hood to make it long enough. You can see that on all the Super Birds. The nose is different and has the air intake under the nose instead of at the high pressure area where the nose was pointed like it was on the Charger. The wings side panels are bigger and more swept back than the Charger. Not even close to being the same cars.
