I grew up doing gymnastics and cheerleading and when I started learning volleyball I did really well because I was used to taking advice on form and technique and this was my strong suit even though I was extremely short. I could jump high and get my arms up strong and it was so much fun
I agree with multiple sports but the interviewer is right. Soccer coach says we will lose spot next summer if not there all winter which is hockey season. Hockey coach says must do skills during summer with team to keep up. It's also about the money as these activities at the competitive level are very expensive and coaches make money during off season by keeping team together. All sports do compliment each other with physical and mental development as well as strategy. It's not quite that simple as taking out of soccer for the hockey season and vice versa. Everyone wants to point at the parents when I believe the system also at fault. When I was young there wasn't soccer domes everywhere so no winter soccer and there weren't ice rinks everywhere that ran all summer long. That was before someone realized they could make money by operating these sports year around.
If the child is drawn to a specific sport it seems more productive to create for them a comprehensive training schedule that targets important skill rather than forcing them to play a bunch of other sports. This may be more useful if you are not able to be actively involved in your child's sport's development but personally I plan on being very involved in helping my child become successful at whichever sport they gravitate towards.
My parents and teachers forced me into sports whilst at school when I just wanted to sit quietly in the shade and read a book. You might might think that I wasn't good at sport I was, it was simply a case sports didn't float my boat. Much to my coaches' frustration I refused to compete to my maximum capabilities and would hold back if there was an chance of me winning. Cut to today and I've been a lawyer for many years and always aim to win for my clients....and I'm pretty successful at it. I always thought that a sports person is of no use to society but a lawyer is.
I like everything except for the finding a Coach that has your success as their interest. We don’t always get a boss or a Coach that has our interest and I believe that too is an aspect as a parent we have to consider undermining or to not undermine. From his point of view, I would assume to not undermine by his philosophy.
Thats shortsighted...both high impact, collision sports combined with agility, leverage , and instant redirection? The neuromuscular cues from the brain through the central nervous system to the muscles directly responsible for the movement are the same. The sport you apply that process to is your choice.
Great advice on specialization and finding off-season sports that develop varied skill sets. But ... water polo? How many kids have access to a pool with goals ... not to mention a water polo league? Not arguing with the inherent value of water resistance as a healthy way to build explosiveness. But you don't need a formal sport -- let alone one typically open to very few kids -- to accomplish that. Water tag, which kids could play with nothing but a ball and a few friends, in any pool, would be much more accessible and would accomplish the same thing.
Whats the difference with playing one sport year round and several sports year round. Your still exhausting ur body and will get injured wither way 🙄 Not a very smart analogy in my opinion
Swimming is an excellent core and nervous system developer. You spend too much time in your head. Use hate like you use anything else. Hate with a purpose becomes fuel. Its called discipline.
Life is all about choices. You can choose to do the little things that will make the difference. Or you can sit back and be a fucking whiner and ultimately never doing anything with your life when you had the chance to go the distance. It's hard. Nothing in this life worth doing is easy. Put in the time and perfect practice makes perfect. No excuses. Can you live with that.?
Practice doesn’t make perfect you’re still living in the past and need to realize practice makes progress and you ain’t perfect and that’s why kids have anxiety from people like you telling them to be perfect when in reality if you’re more relaxed and COMPOSED they will perform better. Long term you’re setting your kid for failure
Sorry but I do not agree with this guy, playing multiple sports is going to distract and slow down the process, I have a 9 year old kid playing soccer 24/7 (1 year of experience only) He is already playing with kids that have 4 years of experience (most of this kids play 2 or more sports, except for my son)
What if your kid isnt that interested in soccer in 2 years and wants to do something else? Will you allow them to explore or do they have to stay committed to that one sport?
Nope, i cannot agree. For 2k a year t9 olay club sports just because its club sports, i cannot sit back and let them only care about that sport when they have team practice. They need to practice a bit more.....on their own. Hust my two cents. Vr

Yeah but there is no out of volleyball. If you play high school, club season starts immediately after and last all the way to summer.
BTW, Kobe specialized in bball. He was a unicorn....also this video was 7 years ago. Club sports even Rec sports are expensive.
He excelled in soccer as a youth.

Overuse doesn’t come right away, when kids are older and when they start to grow faster, lots of issues can show up….
