This is the Grand Seiko I would love to have in my collection. I rather this then a Rolex. Everybody has a Rolex. This is my Rolex. Seiko makes a well oiled time piece with GREAT craftsmanship and detail. Seiko for life
SEIKO SPRING DRIVE is an innovation that the expensive ROLEX can never surpass. The spring drive is more reliable in time precision than the COSC-certified ROLEX chronometer.
A Rolex cost more than £4000 easily while a Seiko costs only £200. You talk as if you can actually afford to buy a Rolex, this kind of self pity of yours irritates me sometimes
Well Bobby, you don't know what he can and can not afford, unless you're his personal accountant. As for Seiko and Rolex, both fantastic watch companies with beautiful, quality watches... Seiko has a ton of good, affordable pieces, Rolex doesn't but on the other end of spectrum Rolex can not touch Seiko and their 400.000$ ultimate watch! So, if price is the only measurement that matters to you in terms of quality and prestige...
Polar Roller the second hand movement is incredible, and i own a fair few swiss watches at much higher prices. Seiko are a very good watch maker, with a lot of history/horology.
I like your comment theonlyredspecial. I as well own several Rolex, a Navitimer, JLC Reverso, and a Patek chrono, rose gold ,black dial 5960r. This Patek is always in the bank box, except for rare occasions. This last fall, I purchased a minty second hand Grand Seiko GMT high beat, steel, with that silvery white dial, blue 24 hour hand. OMG, what a watch. GS artisans , that select few, who utilize that zaratsu polishing technique on the 316 steel, way out shines Rolex's 904L steel and the huge investment Rolex put into machinery to work their 904L steel. I love my Rolex, but by golly, my little Grand Seiko is a magnificent little machine and it gets a hell of a lot of wrist time. I feel GS is arguably better than Rolex, if one can get past the brand name on the dial. A Rolex is a more robust watch tho , and I feel, can take hard knocks better than GS. Both Rolex and GrandSeiko are excellent watches to own, and I felt my Swiss watch collection was incomplete without a little cousin from the Pacific.
I have a exact same watch. Such a beautiful time piece, it looks even better if you have a watch in front of you. The accuracy can beat any Swiss time piece.
Thank you for the review and your exaltation about this little masterpeace. I will get myself one of theese soon. Another surplus of what you call stealtworth is the fact you can simply waer it allday, whithout any fears. And to me this is what a very fine timepeace is meant for, to be worn.
Thank you for this in depth and thorough insight. Out of all the Grand Seiko range in my own opinion I'll go for this one at some stage. I Must admit that you got me drooling here. I had a look whether a ceramic bezel would have been better and apparently not since it can chip and chatter and a highly polished special lacquered coating does the job better apparently. So yep in my subjective opinion this piece just does it all being smart, sturdy and sporty for an all in one dress and tool watch...
That is a real "horn" piece there Peter! If I had a spare AUD$7800 I would definitely buy it! I can only dream, thanks for the review, all the best. 👌🏼
Nice review, the narration has a calming effect, mainly because of your voice. Hope you can find the time and leisure to review more things in the future.
The combination of technologies used to create the movement of this watch is so clever that the Swiss must be kicking themselves that they didn't think of it first. I love Omega and Rolex divers and am starting to think this should be one of my loves too. You can't deny the quality and accuracy of these watches. Grand Seiko should consider a longer warranty as an option to match that of companies like Rolex and Omega to increase consumer confidence and build a stronger reputation for the quality of their movements.
I have the Rolex Milgauss z blue and GS SBGA001J. Both amazing watches and both comfortable, personally I prefer my GS but wow do they take a hit on resale value. That's the only reason I'd take a submariner over the watch in the video. Quality wise, no difference (although a 200m diver seems strange), looks wise I'd take the GS any day but for resale.... The sub.
I've always loved Seiko watches whether they be Grand Seiko or watches in their regular line. The Grand Seiko Diver has been calling to me for months, now. I have to own this watch. Is it worth the extra thousand dollars, do you think, to have this watch in titanium (SBGA031)?
@@paceyombex Not practically, literally. A conventional mechanical watch ticks because of the oscillation of the pallet fork escapement. In Spring Drive, the glide wheel that replaces the balance wheel is continuously spinning at 8rpm.
@@paceyombex The movement of the quartz crystal only serves as a reference signal for the IC so it knows how much time has passed. This has no effect on the way the gear train moves, only the rate at which the electromagnetic brake needs to be applied.
@@myscrnnm I know the concept of spring drive, you don't have to explain it to me. But, the quartz crystal is undeniably, beating. So it still has something that ticks inside of it, and since it still affects the movement of the second hand, technically it has an effect towards it.
Hi Peter, very nice review! Between the sbge001 and the sbga029 witch is your favorite watches ? Or the more « grand seiko » watches? If you have to by one
Truly a beautiful watch! I know you said very accurate, but how accurate is it, can you tell me? I could hear the enthusiastic tone of your voice, quite infectious. Great video! Thanks Peter.
If you take care of this watch and get it serviced on a regular basis, it could easily last 50 years -- if not longer. This is the type of watch you give to your grandson as an heirloom.
I'm trying to determine Grand Seiko Spring Drive, Rolex Sub, or Omega Planet Ocean. I can afford only one watch. I think Grand Seiko wins in quality, Rolex in recognition, and Omega in look. I think one thing that would help is how often do they need to be repaired, as I self-admittedly will forget to repair it regularly.
Hi :-) Thats a hard one. Basically it will come down to your gut feelings ? There are a million different opinions on an answer to you puzzle, so just go with the one that "calls to you" the most :-) Best wishes,, Peter
There are a few with true sweeping hands, not new watches though I don't think. A few off the top of my head are the Bulova Accutron with Tuning Forks, the Omega F300hz and the Tissot Tissonic
"Say ko". The way you were pronouncing it would be spelt "Saiko". Source: I live in Japan. Trust me, it's important to hit your vowel sounds right, otherwise they stare at you with blank faces.
the charging is like with every other mechanical watch, it has a standard spring after all. I like the idea of spring drive movement, but I put it in the same bucket with the quartz. Not sure how durable over time it will be. I absolutely prefer fully mechanical movement. GS are great watches, like them much more that rolexes design-wise and the level of execution is over the roof
Many debates about that. So far I have heard of only 1 watch that had a problem, running way too slow. This technology has been around for some year now and no case of spring drive suddenly stopping to work. Maybe I did not research at the right places but there is a KEY difference with quartz: there are not components containing chemicals. No battery, no capacitors, no moving parts (i.e. not more than in a traditional watch) i.e. none of the usual suspects that kill electronics after a more or less long time. And with less shocks compared to traditional watches (the "escapement" spins, it does not oscillate), it may well be more durable that purely mechanical watches. On the other hand, if in 50 years from now it breaks for any reason, it will be more difficult to repair.
Thank you for your reply. Nice watch and good review. A pet hate of mine are push pins in the bracelet of a watch. Omega Speedmasters now have screws in the side of the bracelet too.
Please allow me a little correction: The name of the company "SEIKO" is not pronounced like "psycho" In Japanese it is: セイコー セ=SE イ=I コー= kō So it is prounounced "Seikō" Which sound more like "SAY" and "CO" from... let's say "Coal".
Beautiful watch and fabulous concept in the Spring Drive movement until you have to send it to another continent to service your timepiece...😥 Additionally, why when Breitling, Panerai, Tudor, Omega produce a watch in these proportions- diameter 44.5mm; lug to lug 53mm and thickness 14mm it's a monstrosity but when Seiko does it it's a superb time piece?
It can't be emphasized enough, Spring Drive is NOT quartz at all. There is literally a quartz CRYSTAL grown by Seiko that emits an electrical pulse, then there's a copper tuning fork (? I'm not sure what it's called) that carries the pulse. But there is no battery. It is a mechanical movement, and it's genius and actually friction-less or near friction-less when compared to traditional mechanical movements. There's a clip explaining it on RUclips somewhere.
I'm gonna wait a couple of years or so until the price comes down and also the gear sensor spinning at least 1000rpm may be a potential problem. It's not gonna last too long unless they are hardened steel with a good lubricant. I honestly hope it succeeds the watch industry's competition with high-end big brands.

I got one silly Seiko where the battery goes for 15 years. for 15 years I have accurate time. incredible. Maybe a bit late, but my watchmaker that has become a Grand Seiko AD this year said that Grand Seiko (yes it is a separate company now) claims a service interval of 50!! years. I highly doubt that that is correct, but even if it is half that time between services it is still extremely good.

captivating watch, very comforting voice, you should make documentaries with that voice!
that is really breath taking! for the moment, GS is my grail watch.. that replaced the seamaster 300 black dial pre co-axial!
Inimitable timepiece.
When I get mine, there will be a powerful temptation to replace the bezel with a GMT layout...
Thank you. Subbed.

Pause house of cards, watch your video, thumbs up. Went back to house of cards and can't stop thinking about this watch, lol. Awesome in so many ways.

+Peter Alexander Manthos haha you're welcome.
Great review of a fantastic watch my friend!
Nice review, the narration has a calming effect, mainly because of your voice. Hope you can find the time and leisure to review more things in the future.
Could watch that second hand all day
Verry nice to see how the watch impressed you- good!
That's a beautiful diver
Well, now i know what my grail watch is and what it looks like. Thanks for the great review.
and thank you for watching :-)
That second hand movement is mesmerizing won't get smoother than that
gorgeous watch
Very pleasantly done review. Well done.
The best watch in my collection ❤️ I’m slightly regretting using it as my daily watch for four years. I think it’s called ‘patina’ 😂

Call me lucky! My wife just bought me the current version of this watch for my birthday! Replaces the "SEIKO" at the top of the dial with "GS"...
Stunning Zaratsu finishing. I'd use my tuna for real diving, and this would be a sport-casual dress watch.
great innovation
would placing it next to a magnet stop it working ?
I dont think so. It would have to be at super powerful magnet.
this second hand must be the smothest sweeping second hand i have EVER seen
because it's spring drive, there is practically no tick in the movement that usually makes second hand's movement jerky

Seiko says +- 1 second a day, but most people who own one say it’s + 4 seconds a month which makes it 48 seconds a year.

Grand "Psycho"?
Better than a Rolex Sub imho
its a samurai sword forged in the fire's of ancients.
Why dose it look like a rolex
It does not 'in hand'. . .a Rolex looks like an okay/goodish attempt at trying to emulate a GS.
Still Evolving Why does the bracelet look like a Seamaster
It’s looks more like a SKX than a submariner in my opinion.
fantastic piece it trump rolex's subi, unfortunately it's brand will always be associated to affordable watches
I do not know why Seiko makes such oversized watches when most Japanese are not particularly big or fat?
Слишком дорого за Seiko👍👊, но очень красивые и качественные. Правда, можно за эти деньги Rolex, Omega. Поэтому, Seiko не куплю.
