As a heavy retro gamer, I can really appreciate a good 4:3 (or heck, even a 5:4) monitor. Great stuff!
by any chance, do you know if you can view 240p over S-video? aka Super Nintendo?
There is an aspect ratio which is 31:24 which is right in the middle of 5:4 and 4:3
I have a 16:10 Version of this monitor. Awesome Colours on it for an older TN Panel. Dell truely do make some of the best monitors around, suprisingly cheap too!
Budget-Builds Official actually they used S-IPS panel.. at least that what my Dell Ultrasharp 2007WFPB had.
i just picked up a 1908fp for 8 bucks at a thrift. i mostly bought it for the stand; since i have a standless 2407wfpb in the mail. with composite, s-video _and_ component... but the 1908 is in such nice condition that i might just use both.
I remember one day I found a dell 2007wfpb monitor in trash. When I turned it on, I was surprised by that picture quality, but it had a problem - it was turning off by itself. Inside a monitor there was a faulty resistor which I removed from the motherboard completely. After the modification it worked for about 2 hours, and then it just died - stopped turning on completely. Had to go back to trash, where I found it. R.I.P. dell 2007 wfpb monitor.
FWIW, I just found this video because I'm looking at monitor upgrades and wanted to find some stats on my existing monitor ... a Dell 2007FBb, on which I just watched this video! It has served me well for over a decade, but I'm finally joining the wide screen world. Think I'll keep this one around though!
Using 3 of them is an amazing experience and maybe the cheapest way to play with Nvidia Surround
Yeah they were typical used in school
I got a Dell 1708FP for free from work, they were about to throw it away. I still have it, and it's great.
Absolutely love this kind of vintage product, I have 16:9 ration of this model.
I've actually got one of these on the way haha! Funnily enough, I'm going to be using it with an xbox classic on my desk and this was a prime candidate because of the 4:3 resolution and the s-video input. Great video mate!
Same here, my Sony Trinitron died sadly, and probably cost more than what I bought it for to repair. So thinking of getting one of these for my PS1, N64 etc (I have a RetroTink for upscaling and scanlines)
2022. Just bought 2 of these. It is one of the very best flatscreen monitors for emulation (4:3, 1600x1200 / 240 lines (retro-resolution) x 5 = 1200).
Picked one up today at Goodwill in great condition for only $8! Love legacy hunting!
People laugh at me for having this desktop
@@wertiaaudit5746 tell them to kick rocks and go fuck themselves cuz they obviously don't know shit about tech! Watch any PC part reviewers etc on youtube and they will have one of these in their setup! I have 2 as part of mine. Their is a reason people love these monitors, they're cheap and work really well for a really long time!
I run three that I bought for cheap about 10 yrs ago, and I have a perfect spare that I found on the street for free.
Hey I have this one as well! Been going strong with it for a while!
Dell has always made great screens, back to the old CRT’s, which were Sony Trinitron Tubes
I use a 1997 Dell Trinitron CRT for Halo at 100 Hz
Hey man good job
Keep up the good work
I really loved your fx videos
Please keep making budget builds and overclocking videos
Just got a Ultrasharp 2007WFP, loving it!
same here
👍
My school was giving these away for free there not bad
Um do they have a hdmi port?
@@zdgux dont get this is youre fr gonna game
Our school has the 19 inch variant. Apparently they were $310 new back in 2006. Like th USB hub as well
My school has those lenovo thinkvision, they aren't as good as ultrasharps imo
I found one in a trash pile
No scratches thankfully
Plugged it in
Switched it on
Boom it works
Lucky
I don’t understand why some people chuck away a perfectly working monitor.
the 75hz refresh is just the cherry on top to an already excellent monitor
Found your channel through green ham gaming, cool to see you also know about this monitor. I managed to find a 2007fpb (LG IPS version) from a thrift store for $10, and i love it
This almost feels like Green Ham Gaming but British... Hell, I looked up old Dell Ultrasharps, and felt like GHG would make a video on them.
i am sill using my 2408 , purchased in 2007, 13 years already
The Dell U2711 is fantastic if you can find one because of the sheer variety of ports it has, and the 2560x1440 resolution is still great to use day to day now.
I picked up the U3011t. I am not disappointed at all best gaming monitor I have ever used.
I have the 2408WFP which also has the crazy amount of inputs adding HDMI and Displayport and a larger 24" PVA panel which has some excellent black levels. I think you could definitely do worse than to buy one of these on the used market.
Although reliability is questionable considering that these pre 2010 monitors all use an inefficient CCFL backlight that produces a ton of heat and degrades very noticeably over time. My 2408 needs about 30 minutes to reach peak brightness.
I think something like the 2412 (or 2413 for more inputs) would be a better investment. They also look pretty cool, but use a significantly better LED-Backlight and IPS-panels while not being too expensive on the used market compared to these silver-oldies.
replace the CFL with an LED strip. The 2413 is a downgrade imo.
Wish I have one of these
I still got my one, and in very good condition
lol I got 3 of these, they are like 9,99$ now and I painted them Oyster white. Still great for retro gaming etc.
I have a 1707FP monitor, it was £5, has some damage, but it's great for my 2002 Duron system!
it definitely works good with old consoles (NES, SNES, N64, GC, PS1, PS2, XBOX, etc.) and the 8 bit computers (Apple II, Commodore 64, ZX Spectrum, TI-99/4a, etc.)
Wouldn’t you need an external upscaler to get rid of input lag and upscale the resolution?
input lag can be an issue, since it's a LCD and not a CRT. yeah, i forgot input lag.
i found 3 of these in the garbage and they work vary nice
It's funny I'm watching this video on a 2007FPb :)
Got it from trash few years ago, it would not boot because of some shorted resistors.
And yes I like it too.
Man! Have a problem with mine, perhaps you can explain a little how you fixed yours? Or point me in the direction of the information? Thanks in advance!
@@dorasapien7389 I got the insight from badcaps forum. I seem to recall that on the secondary board, the one connected to usb hub, there are voltage converter chips, one of which was not working.
www.badcaps.net/forum/showthread.php?t=20531&highlight=dell+2007fpb+teardown
check on page 4-6 there are some picture showing the resistor which was broken. Mine was the same as on the picture from page 4 I seem to recall.
Same
I've just bought one of these monitor today and I honestly can't wait to try it now that I've seen your video
So how is it. Is it good at gaming
@@kluffy8221 Haven't been able to test it yet haven't built my pc yet
I used to have the Dell ultrasharp 1908FP monitor. Very similar to this monitor, only it was 19 inches with a resolution of 1280 x 1024. It was very good and I liked it a lot but unfortunately the power button broke making it unusable. :/ A Google search revealed that this was a very common problem with this monitor.
Awesome monitor the 2007 have 3 of them and trying to fix the fourth one I have on storage.
well if you still want a classic 5:4 square monitor dell still sells the P1917s
I have a similar monitor, although it’s only 1280x1024 and has no s-video or composite in.
Chad 3007WFB
I picked up 5 of these. The stands are not interchangeable as the monitors are too heavy for the stands of say a 1907 which causes them to immediately fall to the lowest position. I have found the composite input to be very finacky, they just do not like many 50hz pal inputs.
I think the Dell U2711 is also a dream for retro gaming, because it's IPS, 1440p(giving you access to 1600x1200 or 1920x1440), and has:
HDMI
DVI
Displayport
VGA
Component
Composite
So effectively only missing S-Video but I think I would rather Component over that.
If you can find one for a good price I highly recommend it.
I accepted one of these specifically for the Video and S-Video inputs. It looks like it doesn't accept my PAL VIC20 and C64 signals though. That's a bummer. I'll have to experiment a bit more.
I have the HP equivalent of this Monitor, an LP2065. its also a crazy sturdy monitor with great viewing angles even 15 years later :P it kinda loses out in connectivity though with only 2 DVI-D Ports
I having this same moniter
well we need 5:4 and 4:3 monitors to come back! Because for guys like me that want two displays but two 16:9 is too wide. One 5:4 or 4:3 paired with a 16:9 is just right.
I have a problem, hopefully someone can help.
I have the same monitor, the stand is stuck, can't go up and down. Even i press the lock button.
the silver button on the back?
The 2407WFP is the best out of the bunch since it's 1980×1200. Only drawback is the 60Hz refresh rate :/
Not if you don't want a wide screen aspect ratio
I so want this for my arcade machine. I am using a 24 inch Acer 16:9 and it is bonkers bad.
Nice! I'd be looking out for one now if it had RGB Scart or Component. I just got a Samsung Syncmaster 5:4 with SCART for my PS2 and gamecube, my hopes were high but sadly the de-interlacing is not so good and its a bit grainy. Does this one deinterlace well? Parhaps even s-video with this would be better
And a Dell with RGB SCART and Component does exist but its only 1366x768. If im buying a widescreen i only consider 1080p
1280x1024 is not 4:3, it is 5:4.
What is a monitor
@@Techwen Who is a monitor?
getting one of these soon
Hi and thenk you for the upload. I am looking to buy one of these and would appreciate f you know the answers for these questions:
1. Do you know the backlight lifespan for the model or if there is an OSD backlight hours counter?
2. Do you know the minimum brightness level it could reach? Today`s DElls of 300cd/m2 start at around 40cd/m2 minimal brightness.
I use this monitor
Any similar monitors with a little bit faster response time? The only issue on this monitor is the ghosting, so im searching for alternatives that are the same size.
I got this for free! Great for MAME!
turns out i had one of these bad boys in my basement, pretty epic
I still using this in office.
Are use that Monitor it as my third monitor
I have a dell sp2008wfp
I was looking for one to put into a arcade cabinet build I’m looking at doing, my only concern is the power consumption 😳
these things with soundbar+USB if used, is about 75W according to the manual. about the same as my 17" Flatron CRT :D
I have noticed that my monitor works very well when I am using Linux, but for same resolution on Winodows 10, it gives me very bad resolution. I don't know how to solve this, tried installing some drivers, but it wasnt succesful.
I have this monitor already. Now I'm going to buy a PC next month, cause past one broke :(
is your current pc doing ok? :)
Great screen, a shame dell didn't made a bigger one.
Only downside is power consumption... 75w!
and its an old monitor so if its been used for a long time the backlight may be degraded... i have a 2001fp but it's impossible to see because the backlight is almost dead
does the 2007fpb feel like 1080p to you?
i really want one with vesa mounting...
I got the old version but to my surprise it doesn't have the profile option for it's display. How can I get it back, please need help over here.
16ms. Damn that's a lot. I'll take the 2008 version instead. It got 6ms responstime.
Will this paír good with a retrotink 5x pro ? Or there will be much input lag i saw one of this for like 20 bucks on marketplace
Have you managed to get this running 480p from a console? I have one and love it, but the one thing keeping it back from being perfect is getting it to accept a 480p component signal. Component > hdmi > dvi it says “signal not accepted”, really sucks
Is it really that good?
1:00 no they wont. 3:00 after all the negatives, where are the positives? besides it having a nice adjusting stand? lol. I say this because I own one and you've not mentioned anything about image quality. I assume this is just a churn and burn affiliate-commission channel. 3:40 you mean outro?
COMPUTER
There is also HDMI input?
Anyone tested this monitor with retro computers, consoles via VIDEO, S-VIDEO? Is the screen displayed correctly? Suitable for e.g. a retro Amiga computer? Commodore 64?
What about the HP LP2065?
Is the 16ms respond time only on 75hz?
sah showroom kaha par hai in vadodara ??
whats the difference between 2007FP Vs 2007fpb?
B stands for the business line of Dell, to my knowledge they are the same physically
Do you or anyone know why my vga is only showing in pip mode on this model
that is older then me
Is it possible to connect a retro console like SNES or Gamecube to the Dell speakers?
You need a rca to aux output adapter in order to hear it
Can we play gtav in this monitor
I am pretty confused, is the montior frame itself 4/3 or 5/4
4:3
has anyone had issues with these connecting to a PAL composite/S video signal? it's clearly recognising something but i'm just getting the little input icon flashing in the corner and no picture
Same here. It doesn't like a 50Hz PAL signal. Rev 05 manufactured Augist 2007 with an IPS panel.
My 4 3 monitor supports 1600x1200 by over clocking and the monitor like knows that someone will overclock it to 1600x1200
Mine does too but it makes everything look really small and fuzzy so I leave it on the native resolution of 1280×1024 where everything looks nice and big and crisp.
@@jameshunt1516 9 months later i remembered that mine does the same thing
I just bought a 2k + (€) Gaming PC and my mother wanted to give me this monitor. I mean yeah thanks but I don't think that's the right choice for a main monitor when you have a RTX 3080 😂.
do you know if you can view 240p over S-video? i want to play my SNES on it!
I have one in 4:3 and sorry to say analog signals are badly upscaled or you can view it in a 3 inch square in the middle of the monitor.
@@newchannelwtfwhy retro tink can fix this?
NOT TO MENTION THEY ARE LIKE 100 DOLLARS ON eBay!
That's if you get a grade C or maybe B. Grade A or "like new" are going for $300 and up. The demand these are starting to create in the retro gaming community is only going to make that worse over time.
@@alanshmahlen21 Not true at all. I got a grade A screen today for $109 without the stand. I missed out on a "last one" that was sold by the time I tried to buy it for $99 with stand a vga cable and power cord. There are many for 100 bucks indeed A grade. They sell like hotcakes though so you gotta be quick.
@@TboneTenEighties They must sell fast enough to never get crawled by search indexes. Between eBay, fb marketplace, Amazon resellers, PC liquidator sites, Mercari, etc, I can never find one that is that cheap that also explicitly mentions being Grade A. Usually they say something like "Used but I think it's nice." XD
im trying to use this for my xbox how do i change the screen resolution because right now it looks like trash and i dont have a windows computer to change it just the xbox system.
it looks like trash because it's composite. its the signal, not the monitor
You should try to get vga, rgb or at least svideo from your xbox, the quality will get much better.
I’m just looking for a good monitor that runs video games really well and if you have any idea then please comment on my comment
16ms is a long time. Not only can you feel it in gaming, but you can audible hear a 16ms delay as an echo. That's how long it is. You're much better off getting a modern display and adapters for gaming.
Does anyone know how to connect this onto a ps4
Just get a dvi to hdmi adapter or cable, HDMI sends a digital video signal compatible with DVI so, just connect and the image goes right through.
Don't listen to this guy. I have this monitor and the hdmi to DVI may work for PCs but not consoles or chromecast. It will get stuck on 480p.
75 watts 😥
2:08 16: 10*
I like older dell from 1999 to 2015 newer is a joke.
I have it and i get electrecuted evertime i touch it ;-;
i bought the 1917s and the viewing angle is terrible, how about this one
i got one for free left out in my apartments lobby, works good.
Is that good for gaming?
