    Games are ideologically driven for the sole fact that they're trying to have both optics and be mass-appealing. Remember that games were very niche for a significant chunk of time, they only became mainstream during Halo-2/Halo-3 so from about 2005-2007 onwards. Games in this period were much more varied, and there wasn't the massive consolidation that we see over these IPs. Additionally after Gamergate there was a focused effort in extracting the "problematic" aspects of gaming, which was all of the boob-armors, damsels in distress, non-queer characters, and toxic player bases (The optics)
    Now some games were able to toe the line pretty well in case of the earlier Mass Effects and Dragon Age being Queer friendly, and mass appealing, because these things were more or less optional (Even mass effect 3 and dragon age 2 had major player gripes but were received well)
    Also look at development times, size of studios, and how many of these things changed over a period of 20 years, most of these developers are out of business, moved on, or had major internal shakeups, which would always impact the quality of the product. Keep in mind also that players have changed what they want to play in terms of games. Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnite were major successes and changed the market in terms of what younger gamers started off with today, vs Halo 2, vs Mario Bros, which all signify major shifts in the market and what players played and wanted. Today, all in which we see trends for the internet savvy 18-something which gets most of their media off TikTok and RUclips, which get clickbaited and spliced to show problematic issues. (Cyberpunk suffered mightily from this) so the environment of gaming has changed, what players want from games has changed, how games are made, how many people... you get the picture
    We're in a nice mid 1980's mark now, where the market is saturated with games, more games that you and I can possibly play on every console, including mobile, but as an informed consumer, the infrastructure around it has been heavily eroded by bribes, ideology, laziness, hypocrisy, and plain stupidity, and that's leading to the crash in the market.
    I'm a dev, and I believe teams have to go smaller again, take more risks to capture the attention of the market, and find the sweet spot for a variety of gamers that are out there. I believe some games hit the mark on the AAA market such as Space Marine 2, or Stalker 2. I think we need to be smaller, more dynamic, and targeted to specific groups. Owlcat for instance stands out in the RPG market, with heavy hitters from Bioware and CDRP, and Larian studios, if you look in the shooter space, you have 8-Bit battle, or Tarkov standing out with the call of duty/fortnite shooter space. Etc etc.
    We also need to stop purchasing slop. Pre-ordering slop, and punishing companies for producing slop. (Bethesda I'm looking at you.)

      Brother, I read your comment twice, and I honestly believe you pointed out all the aspects with details, which I 100% agree with. couldn't say it better myself. man reading your comment and seeing your understanding with its depth just shows if only the right people had this level of understanding we would have great games back to back, not to mention these layoffs would also never happen

      Metal Gear Series were all about politics and social issues but it so well written that people could actually learn from it but now they want to force their beliefs down our throat

      @khatack Месяц назад +1

      It's not that simple. Good stories are good because they convey meaning, and meaning is found in truth. Sometimes this truth is politically taboo. Staying neutral in this fight for the soul of western civilization is not an option, and as you may have noticed, NOT bending the knee to the woke certainly brings with it many negative consequences. If you don't want every game to be about the struggles of trans people, then you better take a stand on the political front.

      @@khatack True True, I mean we had metal gear series which had politics and social issues all over it. and Baldur's Gate 3 which had trans and gay and other stuff but it so well written as I mentioned in the video that it really didn't bother anyone. back to your point , I agree 100%

      @@TimonHub Well, the BG3 stuff bothered me enough that I do regret buying it and I'm kind of ashamed to even admit that I own it. That being said, the overall quality of the game definitely earns it a lot of forgiveness, but I'd rather it didn't have all the garbage. As good as BG 3 is, it could've been SO MUCH better, especially if you consider the massive downgrade the release was in comparison to the early access version.

    • @TimonHub
      @TimonHub  Месяц назад +1

      @ It's totally understandable that as a player you don't want to intract with those stuff in your game. In BG3 as far as i remember it was optional. You don't have to but i can be wrong it's been awhile. But again it's understandable and your right. I don't like it either to be honest

      When Disney and other advertisers threatened to leave X if Elon Musk didn't start censoring free speech, he told them to go fuck themselves. Musk is also a passionate gamer. I find it highly unlikely that he would go into this particular business money first. He already has much more money than he knows what to do with.

    @diegosolis9681 Месяц назад +1

    He's doing the same thing he's criticizing the industry for doing: Putting ideology before anything else.
    He wants to make games with AI, that means he couldn't give a rat's ass about the art side of gaming.
    He cares about the business side and putting his ideology in on them.
    That's the same shit the industry is doing already.
