He continues to exist because of the contract made with the Counter Force, heroes are outside time, but if Shirou lived and became a hero in his own right, without making that contract, he would become a different hero from EMIYA due to a different origin. Their different UBW chants and even appearances are evidence of this. Like I said, EMIYA's timeline is a MESS to figure out.
But Archere (EMIYA) was also that hero. He only grew bitter after being summoned as a Counter Guardian to kill people just to clean up after humanity's messes so often, IIRC.
The timey wimey ball for EMIYA is an utter mess. The implication is that he's from a route you can't actually follow in FSN (Ilya's route), since it's clear that Heaven's Feel and UBW Shirou absolutely WILL NOT become Archer (Ilya's degradation and death as a homunculus was the first major blow to his "save everyone" ideal, she's killed off in both those routes LONG before that can happen). and since Archer uses Rho Aias over Avalon, he's not from Fate either (Fate Shirou traces Avalon free)

If its the same as before, all speech boxes get translated, but no subtitles for any words said during combat.
