- Bunch of changes in the studio recently. Trying a more hardware synth based setup using Ableton Live, which I'm still not familiar enough with but will attempt to figure it out as I go.

This is hands-down the best ambient channel on RUclips. Thank you!
I agree.
You are building worlds. Worlds that my mind is visiting when i close my eyes and listen to your soundscapes.
Thank you for beeing my architect in this journey.
The worlds exist, the music provides the channelled means to visit there.
Hey SA, can we get a studio and gear tour sometime? :)
This ^
I'll try and get one done once I make a few more changes.
@@stateazure we also need to see your whiskey collection!
@@stateazure You rock! I look forward to it. I have already started slowly picking up gear. I want to learn how to do this as well. Latest grab was a Korg Wavestate. Love it. Can't wait to get into the modulars.
I am for it too.
It is absolutely one of your best creations! It reminds me a lot of works by Aditi (Hanyo van Oosterom) "Enter the Unexpected, Part 2", for example - in a tonal sense. I love that piece very much, and so I very much like you creation too. Thank you for sharing!
Beautiful place that exists from where this music is channelling and flowing through you. I also enjoy the fading between shots of your inter dimensional channelling equipment.
I am here... Truly beautiful time with your music.Amazing blue display 💙Mesmerizing lights .. Love your stands.. Love it.. You are inspire me for music..💙🙏Thank you maestro
Thank you so much for this wonderful music. It brings much needed Peace into this chaotic troubled world of mine. Very grateful. Blessings to you and all here.
State Azur, this is a master piece! This is where you really excel, this is when you don't use rithmic loops! A lot of people make ambient music, but this piece of music takes ambient music to the next level. This music takes me on a journey, it does more than simply relax me. Technically it s not too repetitive, there is enough diversification althrough the session to keep me mentally active, to stimulate my creativity and reflections. This is a reference that I will use to compare future ambient music against, also because of the overall use of hardware. It shows even more your artistry. Outstanding! Please make for us more of such brilliant creations.
Thank you! Why don't you like rhythms? some of my best pieces use drums :)
Thank you for your incredible work! I have a similar preference for mixing rhythms with ambient music. Such preference for non-rhythmic ambient pieces isn't so much about not liking rhythms or drums - actually, I do appreciate them in many contexts. It's more about the unique experience that non-rhythmic ambient music offers. There's a certain kind of immersion and unstructured journey that this style facilitates, allowing for a different kind of mental engagement. It's like floating in an ocean of calm sounds where the waves are more gentle and less predictable, and no loud thunder sounds. But that's the beauty of music, isn't it? Its diverse forms cater to different moods and preferences. Anyways, I'm always open to exploring more of your rhythmic pieces. Your talent in creating varied soundscapes is truly exceptional.
Endless talent that never disappoints. Nearly two hours - what a gift! Thank you!
Driving through snow covered northwest Arkansas right now and this stuff is definitely the soundtrack for it
At around 1:00:40.
Wow. What a feeling , a jolt of being pulled back. Wonderful nuance
God Chronos directs me to the ruins of the palace of eternity, which is guarded by a crystal sphinx, the keeper of the legend of the blue Suns. Thank you State Azure - builder and explorer of sound strongholds and atmospheres.
Thank you for finally making some soothing ambient. There's a lot of weird stuff out there with volume spikes and trying to incorporate percussion. Not to say that percussion can't be done but it requires some skill to do it and keep the piece soothing and restful.
Sounds very reminiscent of VLF radio reception. Relaxing and inspiring!
I'm from the 1970's moog Era. What you have and do far exceeds the most Dr Moog, ARP and oberheim and me could have ever imagined. Thank you for the creativity and beauty.
Thank you, much appreciated!
Me too. But we can all evolve if we try. Bloody expensive hobby though.
Wow! It seems that the Waldorf Iridium is a synthesizer no one can get enough of. Two Iridiums, one the desktop and the other the 49-key monster. This is becoming common.
The Iridium is a sound designers dream!
@@stateazure Should have mine in 2 days!! 🚀
Almost every time I listen to one of the State Azure tracks, mysterious en enchanting scenes on alien planets appear in my head. Love it.
Thank you so much for your wonderful tunes like traveling without moving🖤! Greetings 🖖👽
Thank you!
Amazing relaxing visual sonic journey away from this insane world.
Thank you.
It kind of sounds like what I think it would feel like traveling through the Astal Worlds
Hello SA! Nice views of the space station 🙂 I enjoyed the soundscape as well, very nicely done, thanks for this wonderful journey Take care!
Pat, you know I just have to ask how you got such beautiful lighting in there! It's been so endearing to see you cultivate your artistic space, which I hope has been benefitting your well being, too 💜.
Thanks, Lilly. I have a bunch of different lights going on in there, blues and pink/purple mixed with the more natural white lights seem to provide a nice atmosphere I think. Glad you approve!
beautiful sounds! loving this ~
You should showcase that amazing cat of yours! Bottom left at 21:46 jumping out of frame. 😸👍
+1
You can see them on my Instagram :)
@@stateazure i ll follow just now. 🫠
Love your channel. I play it daily during my yoga practise.
Oh i'm going to sleep and replenish well with this one. Stress be gone!
It kinda reminds me of some parts of mirror's edge catalyst's ambient music. I love this
I love this track, I sometimes sit and improvise to it with my Bass VI running through tons of reverb.
Ableton Live is great, but, on its own, in its more basic versions it's nowhere as good for writing and playing Ambient live as the likes of Native Instruments. Its instruments and FX are more tailored for EDM than Ambient. However, Ableton Live is really great to use with multiple VSTs and I use it a lot with NI Reaktors. Another reason why learning this program could be a valuable asset to you is that it has the most hardware made specifically for it. For example Novation SL MK III MIDI controller is a breeze to use with Ableton, in fact you can use it to control the entire program without ever once using the mouse or keyboard. Also SL MK III allows you to control your entire hardware studio at the same time which is extremely convenient.
Haunting!! So moody and dreamy!!
Thank you :)
At some point, I would really like to see the signal path for all your gear. Hopefully that isn't a trade secret. Again just stellar soundscapes you build here... keep up the great work.
Synth into Audio Interface (or ADAT). That's it! There's nothing complicated going on here. Or are you asking something else? The FX pedals are only a little more complicated, but they're just set up as a Send/Return (Send channel within Bitwig)
Everything about this channel.
That opening my Visions about the Planet or Something other planets thx for your music 😎💪
Beautiful as always! ❤
I wonder do u use vst in this as well?
I used some Omnisphere and Bioscape, some FX too I think. Glad you liked it!
I am grateful and lucky to be here and be able to experience your talent. i could not help myself to ask this question , have you had any work of "Klaus Schulze" incorporated in your improvisation? again thanks for sharing your talent with rest of us in this planet.
Hi there, Ive been watching your videos for sometime now, great work, amazing tunes. One question, are you using random generators with quantizers to produce all the background pads and dunes? Thank you and keep up the great work :)
No, there's no random notes on this one at all, it's all been created by hand from the start of the video. The pad right at the beginning is an improvisation recorded into a Clip.
I've just found about you last night and I'm sad I missed this. I've been working on music for 10 years but it's still only a budding skill in some aspects. Seeing your setup inspires me just because I've been purchasing small modular synths and things like the Akai MPC one. My last purchase was the Arturia Microfreak, but I've no knowledge of synth modulation or any intelligence when it comes to the CV/Gate/Pressure/Etc wiring. I'm definitely going to stay tuned and try to learn from you. I live in southeast Alabama, USA, and you've made another subscriber man. I'm definitely a fan even from the 4 hour stream and this one alone. Keep up the amazing work ! Your ambient music is something special.
Thank you!
Great video and setup, as always! :) I am curious to know what prompted you to switch from Bitwig to Live for hardware synth-based setup.
I've always had Live too, I just never really got into it much, I just found Bitwig superior in a lot of important ways for how I work/compose. Bitwig unfortunately doesn't allow any pre-roll for clip recording during a running sequencer, which means you need to get to the synth quick before you miss the beginning of the clip. It's not really an issue for longform ambient like this, but it's annoying. I also wanted to mess around with Live's excellent audio Looper device, which Bitwig lacks.
@@stateazure thanks for your prompt and informative reply
Wowee, When did Nasa move in :) Cheers.
Awesome setup and it sounds so good!
Very Nice. If I might ask - Q: what stands are you using under your desktop units ?
Thanks! They're just common laptop stands from Amazon, various brands. Tilt and height adjustable
Ableton will become your bread and butter once you understand how it works.
Keep pushing forward learning how it works as it will open daws (😏) for you to expand this bliss you create.
~ Truly the best ambient channel on youtube right now.
Not going to replace Bitwig Studio for me I'm afraid :) Ableton Live is very powerful though, no doubt.
I need 2 more of those same 'laptop' stands and extra tier on my stage rack. Comfy Boiz
Ok, just kinda humming along, then all of a sudden at 1:00:43 or so... WHOA :D :D
Great music and amazing sound !
@stateazure Have you ever done...or would you consider a walkthrough of your studio?
There's a brief studio tour video on my channel that I made not too long ago :)
Good vibes. Thank you
Fantastic project
This is so good I pissed myself
Bellissima! SA, which instruments are you playing in this composition?
@State Azure I’m Getting proper sweaty palms/gear envy/synth purchase withdrawal 😵💫😵💫😵💫😂 might have a bash at emulating the Soma Cosmos as an live device chain. How hard can it be, right?! 😂
Are you trying to transition from Bitwig to Ableton permanently? Or are you just using it for this video cause it’s better suited for whatever reason?
What is that lil 16 channel fader by your computer keyboard? Lovely work too.
Thanks. That's a Grid controller by Intech Studio
1:34:10 Love your co-producer.
Thanks for sharing. Your new set up looks beautiful and sounds good. I like that you are blending hardware and software this way. The soundscape is relaxing and peaceful. BTW I finally moved into a new house to replace the one lost in the wildfire. I am still working on carving a place out for a studio. My set up is going to be a little more minimalist than what you have, but it will be inspired by what you are doing and some advice you gave me a while ago.
Thanks, man. Good luck with the new place and the new studio, glad you finally got moved in. Be interesting to see your setup when it's done. I still have my little setup on the back desk, which at the moment is just an Opsix and some loopers + Macbook (mostly just for recording).
the image of state azure surrounding by synths reminds me to a weaver with tapestries, reminds me of the magnificent game by lucas arts LOOM, in a sense state azure you are Bobbin the main character of the game , and you do miracle things happens with your weaving sounds
I remember playing that game!
ugh missed another live stream, lol. Hey where did you get the rack arm for the on stage keyboard stand? I've been looking for one but haven't seen one. I'd love to attach it to my stand and hang pedals etc like you have. Lovely as always.
Thanks. I think I got the arm from Thomann, it's a Jasper laptop arm if I remember.
@@stateazure oh is that a jasper stand? I thought it looked like the on stage stand. I'll have to check and see if the tube thickness is the same. I shoulda gone to Jasper! haha.
I like you're music so cool 😎
The wind swept planet of Alderon............. A lonely place.
Sighting! Someone with a face!
I half expect Oxygene to kick in with the noise wave :)
"I think . . . . Therefore, I AM . . . I think!"
Hey I may have asked you this before but what audio source do you use to connect everything into your daw? I'm assuming you are doing this via USB to your laptop?
No laptop. It's all on my studio PC, the hardware synths all run through the RME UFX II and ADAT via audio jacks.
@@stateazure I need some serious education in that department even though my setup isn't too extensive. Wondering if you would consider consulting on that?
What a gem
Wunderbar! dankeschön
Love this
I went through your back catalogue and now I'm back again. It's been a month.
Couldn't find a 'sort by' option in your video section. Is there something you can enable on your end please.
Thank you sensei!
I don't think that option exists, we're stuck with chronological order it seems.
Playlists would be nice ......
@@soundscapematrix And what do you suggest the playlist should be? I already have one for live stuff. Almost all of my music requires no playlists OR sorting anyway, because it's all (99%) ambient music. Alphabetical? Makes no sense, and there's already a search option
@@stateazure I love it all …. Maybe a modular section, hardware, arpeggios etc…
Everything you do is fantastic.. thank you 🙏
@@soundscapematrix The best I could do is maybe, eventually make playlists for albums, EP releases, but even that is going to take a lot of time to get done and these already exist auto-generated, I think.
Magnifique ❤️
amazing view can you tell me how much that would coust in a whole including software???
No idea. Much cheaper than it looks I suspect! The software is impossible to calculate, I've been working with DAW/software for well over a decade.
I love your videos ❤️
Thank you!
I do miss the setup with all the patch cords 🙂
Coming soon, albeit much downsized.
Sounds amazing... as always! :)
😲
If we all stay in "this flow" we become 120 years old i guess
Quantum + p12 sold? :-O
Quantum was sold long ago, replaced with Iridium Deskitop and Iridium Keyboard. I still have the P12
@State Azure What's the cat called at 09:11? :)
I can't see which cat it was, both were messing about in the room during the stream. One is called Tycho, the other Loki.
@@stateazure looked like a Persian Blue, grey & fuzzy. We’ve a pair of rescues, Martha & Milly, short & long hair respectively, but both black. Greetings from Newquay btw, love your streams, although yet to catch one live (listening at work)
Were is your eurorack??
On another desk. I don't have enough cameras to show the room. The eurorack has downsized quite a bit.

You think its good now? Wait until he presses the buttons and keys...
whoa who's the weird guy in the hat?
He sneaks into my studio while I'm away and does stuff...I don't complain because he gets me more subscribers sometimes.
