Operating in a Shutdown - 886 Restaurant

- How should a business function during a crisis? Eric Sze and Andy Chuang, owners of 886, a popular Taiwanese restaurant in New York city, chose to put all their efforts toward helping their employees and feeding their community. When NYC restaurants were ordered to close their doors, Eric and Andy took to their kitchen and started making bento boxes to donate to emergency workers throughout the city. Their two-person operation is continuing to cook, with all proceeds going directly back to their staff, many of whom are undocumented.

This guy has a heart of gold. When this is all over make sure you support this restaurant.
Totally agree !! What a classy dude !!
NO way, supporting illegal workers, i dont think so.

@fucian j Hey, guy, undocumented illegals most likely do the dirty work for many things you love! Such as orange juice, food in your favorite restaurants, even cleaning up after you! Also, they're humans just like us, so fuck off you cold hearted piece of shit
I live in NYC, can confirm this guy is one of the nicest people I've met while eating in East Village!
When u supporting illegals they will vote us out, look at cali it already happening in la, so many illegals anchors voted for their own in.

Yes I agree. Now's the time to not take things for granted. People didn't want to be outside before, now people are desperate to go outside for fresh air. People who've cancelled hanging out with people are now want to have human interaction.
Being one of the restaurant workers forced to be laid off due to this pandemic, this touches my heart. Keep strong, our restaurant workers are tough people. We live and die as a family. Stay strong brethren.
Ultraman's Inspirational Recipes wish you nothing but the best mr grumpy pants
@Ultraman's Inspirational Recipes whoa great job my dude you are the real hero
what a good boss. thinking about their staff. god bless you guys. stay strong!
No u fool, most of his workers are illegals, coming here taking our jobs, call ice on him for hiring illegals.

@@dangda-ww7de fucking moron.
@Ultraman's Inspirational Recipes Welfare babies? The states sucking up the most federal money are mostly white Republican states.
These are real men showing leadership and compassion.
I’m glad to hear about a business helping their staff as much as possible. The workers, the citizens, are what make industry turn
I wish my job was like this, instead they just fired all of us lol
@GWell their Taiwanese, not chinese. So you don't have to worry about that xenophobia now.
@G Your racism is both unwanted and ridiculous. Anyone that is willing to contribute to those in need and help make this pandemic slightly more tolerable deserves to be celebrated. Perhaps you can contribute to your fellow citizens instead of being aggressively useless and daft. :)
@G u sound like a piece of shit flamed.
G Why would eating chinese food be risky? How is it different than any other food?
Once restaurants open back up, 886 will be the first place I’ll hit up once I’m in the St. Marks area 🙌🏼
No you won't
Same here ✊🏾✊🏽

I love that these guys are doing this selflessly.
You’re not going to get the response you deserve, but thanks.
Malou Carreras kinda sad that they admitted they were doing this to help undocumented people tho. They’re promoting illegal immigration...
runfree I don’t give af. They shouldn’t be here in the first place. This isn’t about being a human being or not. It’s about justice and morals. Illegals have no morals and I’m not gonna take that back
runfree by helping them pay rent it helping and promoting illegal immigration. This guys parents were probably immigrants, he should know not to help criminals. He should know how hard it was for his parents to come here and what he is doing isn’t right. He’s basically saying fuck you to all the immigrants and their families.
runfree it doesn’t matter to him that many immigrants waited twenty years and spent a lot of money they spent years saving.
One thing you have to appreciate is the amount of emphasis on ensuring the QUALITY of food. They could cut down on costs but still producing top quality food given the situation shows how committed these guys are. Definitely paying a visit once COVID19 fucks off...hopefully soon.
886 is one of my favorite restaurants in the city. I had the pleasure of meeting Eric not too long ago. Love this place and everything he’s doing in this video. Keep up the good work guys. You’re amazing and inspiring.
NO its not, amazing, they are hiring illegals, need to call ice.
@@keshybub1322 there are a lot of people waiting inline to come here, these illegals cut in front of them, so they got to go.
Well if there's anything good about this whole lockdown situation it's that it shines a light on people doing these hot difficult Jobs every day!
Melissa Sullivan Exactly! I loved that part. I worked as a dishwasher for one day. I couldn’t keep the job because I was underage at the time. Hardest job I’ve worked in my life. Very miserable. And you can’t imagine what it’s like until you’ve actually done it.

@Ultraman's Inspirational Recipes lol, no he wont. Youd be surprised how little time and resources ICE actually has. Just think about the show "90 day fiance"; it's clearly marriage fraud to provide green cards to immigrants, and USCIS ain't doing shit about it.

You guys are amazing. Simply amazing. Ive been giving my whole existance to the restaurant industry. And never had a situation where my employers show this much whole hearted appreciation
Blessings to you guys 💪🏽🙏🏽. We’re in the restaurant business too. When they announced they were close restaurants to carry out only we were devastated and we were sure we were gonna close for good. Anyways carry out Is going pretty well, despite 3/4 of our staff being laid off we were able to hire a couple back and pay them on days off. Shit we started doing so good we’re selling 2x more food than usual, we’re donating food to our local hospitals now 🙏🏽 but we should also bring awareness to homeless people and all those who lost their job and won’t be able to eat. Remember we’re all human and spread love peace and positivity 🙏🏽🙏🏽 that’s the only way we’ll get trough this
