I just watched this again and it is still amazing. I'm 51 and when my daughter introduced me to TOP I was taken aback. Tyler was able to put into words what I have felt all of my life. I realized that I am not alone. That is why I wil always be grateful to this band. If they can save one life, that is immeasurable. We don't have to suffer in silence anymore!
Look up Car Radio by the same artist if you enjoyed this type of song. They can be a little all over the place stylistically, but that will be the most similar to this song
they are an incredible band with only 2 members and are just unbelievable very good, this band is really big on mental health and has save thousands of us fans. their first album “twenty one pilots” plays a big roll in that along with the singers religion. it was always like a cry for help. like the song “trees” the singer was about 17 when he made that song if i’m not wrong and that is the song very powerful and good. same with addict with a pen, taxi cab, before you start your day…it’s all good. but besides that i highly recommend their album trench.. amazing sound amazing songs. this band is a rollercoaster of emotions.
Amazing song. Tyler suffers from anxiety and depression especially at night. If you look deep in his lyrics you can often find references of this. Thanks for getting to this. I knew your reaction would be interesting and you did not disappoint sir. Respect.
@@deejayturtle Thank you for suggesting this song. I so desperately wish that this song was bigger (more popular) because the message in this song is so powerful, so important, and so brilliantly written. (as is everything Tyler Joseph creates) I may be biased though because their song Truce literally saved my life.
@@twentynepiltsfangrl9396 No problem. Now that you have watched this one I'm sure MrLboyd won't mind me recommend you go check out ThatSingerReactions reaction to the same song, I had him react to it a year ago. Enjoy.
Great reaction - and an amazing track! The label didn’t want this on the album but Tyler and Josh pushed back and insisted. I’m glad they did, it’s a really powerful piece of writing. They have a lot of music dealing with suicide, self harm, depression, anxiety etc. And you’re correct, the music does sound light hearted and upbeat, but if you dial into the lyrics, they usually tell a different story. Migraine (dealing with Tyler’s depression) or Guns for Hands (dealing with self harm) would be great next!
This exactly. They always have an important message to speak on, but sometimes missed due to extensive use of metaphors. This time, the message is in your face obvious.
My daughter introduced me to Twenty One Pilots years ago! This song sent me to ... this single mom worked a lot of extra hours to be able to spend hundreds of dollars for 3 concert tickets. Just because my kid loved them. How many days before the Denver concert were we saying goodbye to Chester? Like the commenter Jordan Reinke wrote a few days ago, “This gave me fkn chills”. Thank you for this reaction💛
Tyler Joseph (the singer, songwriter) struggles heavy with anxiety, depression, suicide, and self harm so a lot of their music touches on mental illness. Their mantra is "Stay alive it's worth it I promise" - Tyler Joseph. This band saved my life and thousands of others. At their concerts people just scream you saved my life and hold up signs that say you saved my life, thank you, and we still need you. It's really really an amazing experience unlike any other experience. God bless you.
This song makes tear up. I’d love to see you react to “Goner” “Kitchen sink” or “Addict with a Pen”. I’d also like to see react to My Chemical Romance(band) if you’re so inclined. Love your reactions. Keep educating on the deeper meanings in songs. You’re rad. Have an amazing day.
such a powerful song. the lyrics are similar to a lot of their songs but the tone of this one is a bit more sombre. check out Goner-live at Fox Theatre or Addict with a Pen live for another emotional performance from them.
It's funny that you said your past experiences with this band haven't been as deep, because I'd say like 89% of their catalogue is dealing with mental illness, suicide, and industry corruption or fatigue.
A lot of their songs have serious lyrics but upbeat music with it, so people can enjoy the song or use it to find hope when dealing with mental issues.
Great song, amazing in concert. I figure you use live versions for specific RUclips reasons but, for your own listening experience I highly recommend you listen to the studio version with your headphones, you won't regret it. You will find that most of their songs are far from jovial and tend to wander into deep waters more so than not. I enjoy your thoughtful take on the songs you cover.
The fact that depression, suicide, and negativity in general is praised nowadays to the point that people will put themselves into these situations is sad. It seems like it’s the only place where we can receive attention. I’ve fallen for this
I suffer from depression and anxiety also and want to end it most days this song I listen to and I’m a grown 35 year old man I break down crying and laughing hysterically at the same time if not for my kids I don’t know if I’d still be here
If you love this, then check out Watsky's 'Lovely thing suite" 🤞❤️ it is a beautiful composition, story and short film, composed of beautiful sounds and lyrics.
Jovial, light-hearted, nothing to deep. I'm sorry, what band are you talking about? I just checked, but you reacted to car radio and holding on to you. Maybe listen to those again? They are not at all light-hearted. Other songs to react to: guns for hands, Migraine.
😂 thought the same lol. But we all know the line 😜 ‘Listen, I know this one's a contradiction because of how happy it sounds, But the lyrics are so down,’
A song about how society acts towards suicide and makes it seem like a good thing by being celebrated and mourned. Teaching the youth that it is an option to be noticed and it clearly angers tyler.
I disagree with our analysis of this band - they have always been about mental health - their songs seem light hearted but if you break down the lyrics you will see the true message
Again...not sure why you are reviewing the one off live versions of these songs but...I guess better than nothing. This seems to more about the meaning of lyrics than the craft of their songs. Either way good to see these vids
Has anyone ever thought about the idea that this man is possessed by a fallen angel that wishes for forgiveness from our God and is pleading our case and his. That’s what I hear.
Interesting analysis, my take was always that it's based on the poor treatment of war veterans in the USA. Turning war losses in to a win and celebrating the many many deaths caused by poor management, including those soldiers who take their own life after the country they fought for refuse to take proper care of them
You can search RUclips for a video titled Twenty One Pilots- Tyler Explains "Neon Gravestones" for his intent. It's a song about the media and celebrities glorifying suicide by making the deceased more famous.
My wife likes these guys... I just don't. I understand that Connor Joseph, writer and singer of 21 Pilots, and myself have a lot in common, but I just can't relate. The very moment he goes into his whiteboy reggae/rap thing he likes so much. I just don't like it. Sorry.

I think this one of their best messages in a song
An important message for people to hear now more than ever
I'd say to try Trees (Live from Fox Theater)
Yes this one!!!
Love your insight more twenty one pilots please keep on keepin on my guy
Your reactions for tøp are my absolute favorites. You analyze the lyrics in such a meaningful way and understand the imagery to a deeper level :)

it’s probably my fav song since it’s been out and the fact that it’s heavily inspired by classical music makes it even better

The last line in this song gives me chills every time I heard the song

Yes. I dono'd for this one cause up till now MrLboyd had done mostly happy songs. Lets give him more suggestions.
@@deejayturtle aww that’s cool ❤
Tyler has saved my life on a couple occasions. I didn't used to like the bands sound. But when I focused on the lyrics I started crying immediately
The fact that depression, suicide, and negativity in general is praised nowadays to the point that people will put themselves into these situations is sad. It seems like it’s the only place where we can receive attention. I’ve fallen for this
If this song doesn’t elicit emotion in the listener, said person doesn’t have a heart.
They really outdid themselves with this one and I don’t think there is a way to top this
You should react to their first song that made them big, ode to sleep. Highly recommend.
Check out My Blood got another one with a clear message but not nearly as heavy.
you need to watch shy away from MTV Unplugged, it's really great
You’ll want to remember this song…overlaps occur and the Neon Gravestones will appear in another video.✌️😎
Had to dono for this one. I think he likes it :p
This is a solo live version - I would listen to the album version as well - same feeling and message just a little cleaner.
you should do "addict with a pen" the studio version or migraine or car radio... some of the deeper stuff
I suffer from depression and anxiety also and want to end it most days this song I listen to and I’m a grown 35 year old man I break down crying and laughing hysterically at the same time if not for my kids I don’t know if I’d still be here
Love it
The song is obviously about the glorifying the idea of suicide and that Tyler obviously rejects the idea of glorifying it.
my favourite song ever
Tyler has always struggled with depression. Most of his songs are metaphors for his life experiences.
Great band, great reaction!
"Jovial and not that deep" thats not how I've ever heard TOP described before 😂
More twenty one pilots content pls
Do Car Radio - but you have to do the official video. The official video is a must!!!

Oh, my dude, NOTHING they do is lighthearted and jovial…some sound that way, but if you dig deeper, we’ll, they’re deeper, lol.
This one's heavy,!
Thank you, for a thoughtful reaction. A lot of the lyrics are telling Tyler's views dealing with his anxiety and depression.
BBC 1 is like mtv unplug it feature only Tyler on the piano. It's great but not like the original version. Pleas watch migraine in the live room.
