- On the edge of the Yucatan lies an abandoned salt mine hacienda that during its most fruitful time in history offered up to three thousand tons of salt to waiting ships at port.
This hacienda is known as Mina de Oro.
When it was in full working mode, there were many more buildings here. Including a dock, a customs office, and a rural tram that allowed for transport of sisal from the henequen hacienda a few kilometers from here.
In 1988, Hurricane Gilberto destroyed the salt fields and they had no choice but to abandon the place.
This is so interesting! This long ago abandoned building (being reclaimed by nature) is still beautiful with its gorgeous handmade tile floors and the wood ceiling beams. Thank you for sharing a little bit of Mexican history!
Im so glad you enjoyed. We will be going to another abandoned hacienda this week! This one is said to be haunted!
Barely any graffiti - Youd think kids wouldve tagged this whole place.
