I raced in the 70’s Suzuki TM 125 and 250’s. Then rode Honda CR 125 and 250’s. I’am 70 now and still have my last racer a Suzuki RM 250 B- model. I picked up a 1982 Husky CR 125 a few years ago for $100. It had never been raced. When you raced these bikes your legs a body were your suspension. No major wheel travel like modern bikes. Only Real men raced in the 70’s. But what a Great time it was pain and all.

@@billfoster213 A couple guys from my neighborhood that were really too fast for me to keep up with were Jeff Ward and Todd Petersen. I still raced, but not with them! We raced Saddleback, OCIR, Escape Country, and Rawhide. I was into it big time in Michigan!!! DT1 MX !!! remember those !!! Then Husky 250cr , Honda Elsinore 250 , Yamaha YZ360 B monoshock, then a YZ 125 with the pressure canisters on the forks!!! Great fun, good time!!!😀😀😀😀😀😁😁😁🏁🏁🍺🍺🍺
I haven't raced since '97, it still just as thriling from your bike ! It was always 10 times more fun having someone right close by to dice with. If you were by yourself it was hardly any fun until you caught someone or someone caught you.. then the battle was on ! 😄
I started racing around 1973 … worked my way up to the 250 expert class. Eventually ending up with only Kawasaki’s (250) from 1976 thru 1979, one each year. From the 1976 down pipe to the really gnarly 1979 bike…was sponsored and it was cool thrashing the bike and having ‘real’ Kawasaki mechanics to fix them. Lived on a ranch and my step and I would get the tractors w/blades out and carve me a new track each spring and fall. Moving into potato cellars (huge assed buildings) for the winter, once emptied and we brought in dirt so I could ride year round. Then life just seemed to go another way. Awesome seeing all the bikes I used to race against. Husky’s, Yamaha’s…loved the Bultaco’s, Maico’s, CZ’s and I started on a Honda then a Hodaka Super Rat. Great video and I ride a KTM 300XCW now…59 years old and hitting the dirt! 😎🤘🤘🤘
Great video. I started back with AHRMA when I was 48 and rode for another 10 years all over the southwest and northwest with my brother. The vintage tracks were fun but a lot of people don't know how fast and long they were. My stamina would usually do me in. I generally got the hole shot on my Husky 450CR, lead one lap, then metodically worked my way to the back. But it was so much fun! Still have two vintage Huskys and a Greeves. At 70 I think it is time to pass them on.
Jeff Wright I'm just a couple of years behind you. Planning to ride the TAT in 2022 on my CRF250L, at at moderate pace. I was out on the back roads of CT today, 45°F. Love those vintage 😍 bikes. That was before they had double, and triple jumps. I tried a double jump at Indian Dunes on my 1978 RM 400. Didn't clear the second jump, and my chest hit the bars so hard that I thought they were going to carry me away in an ambulance. I just had bruised ribs in the early eighties.
Enjoyed the video. Tons of fun! The sound of your Yammie MX brought back memories, I rode a 360. That Orange Maico at the end got the big jump right. Double it. Good to see the CZs and Husky’s too.
Thanks for the memories...I rode a Yamaha 250 and I could never keep up with those dam HUSKYS I was 12 years old and I would lock my boot under the brake pedal to stay on...
Those landings looked painful...I remember those days...and then came the 11 inches of suspension..so we jumped farther and bottomed that..lol.. good ride..

I can feel the arm pump from horsing those old MX bikes around lol. I raced through the 70s. Never was great, but trophies quite a lot in amateur 125 and 250 class. As the technology advanced , the money couldn’t keep up and we eventually dropped out of racing, about he time liquid cooled bikes took over. You could be leading a moto for half or more, then the air cooled bikes would start to fade. No big deal when they were ALL air cooled, but the liquid cooled would start coming from behind and picking you off. It was all great fun, but , like anything else, if you didn’t have the money, you couldn’t stay competitive. The last bike I bought was a “ new” 1976 250 YZ, man it was a rocket! And unbelievable suspension! The YZs and MXs I had before that were incomparable in suspension. I took more firsts and seconds that yr than any other. Kept that bike for years as a trail rider and occasional track bike, but no more actual racing. When I finally sold it , a guy from the north bought it for an ice racer. It was in good shape and may still be going for all I know. Always wanted a 250 Husky, but never could swing the money for it. Even today I drool at those old Huskies when I see one…
Well it could be worse. They had a vintage class for us at Glen Helen back in the mid nineties but we had to ride the usgp track. It was down right brutal. I was on a 71 triumph track 25 trailblazer with a bsa 441 Victor engine.
Fantastic video, it felt like I was actually riding the bike. These guys racing were running hard, but carefully. Vintage parts are expensive!! Notice some of the bikes bottoming out there shocks, good times. Too bad these manufactures aren't making a new vintage line, I'd buy one! This era was fun and inexpensive.
That track and jumps were very tame compared to the real deal back in the late 60s and 70s. Try the carslbad downhill or Saddleback on those same bikes.
This brought back memories of my first bike. 1975 kawasaki ke175. I felt every bump on this video lol the bike was indestructible though and very reliable. It was a great bike to learn on though very easy to ride.
I raced motocross in the late 70's in New Zealand. There were no permanent tracks. A farmer would let a fallow field be used and a track would be marked out using the natural features. Decent long straights, a hill to climb and get some air at the top, wide ditches to dive into and a lot of hairpin turns to keep the speed down. There wasn't jump after jump after jump and the whoop do doos appeared naturally after half the race day was gone, as the bikes tore up the turf. Getting all crossed up over jumps was seen as ridiculous tomfoolery and loss of traction. US tracks seem to be more for the public than the riders and the bikes are hardly ever on the pipe for more than 3 seconds. I used to wind my CR125 out in sixth gear on the home straight. Can't see that happening here...
OMG. I had a Husky 250CR and a 125 Elsinore. Both in this race. Loved it. I didn't really think about it back then but you could hear the shocks bottoming out on every jump. What a hoot.

This is a video of how not to ride in a motocross ( although it was humorous ) . Through the whole video I kept yelling " shift up..shift up " ! I started on a Yamaha MX 250 so I'm not some kid who has only ridden newer bikes with 12 inches of travel. Those jumps weren't that bad . But hitting them like you did made them bone crunchers . GAS ON.... CLEAR THE DOUBLES AND START ACCELERATING IN THE BEGINNING OF THE TURN ! Poor old Yamaha I'd have thrown you off from the embarrassment ...jeez O peet man .

Best suspension was legs and seat foam.
Interesting to see the old suspensions work definitely a workout
so im vintage now? okay thats cool.
Yeah and CZ 400'S ! ✌
Yeah. Watching this video doesn't make me in any way shape or form go back and race my old 1975 CR 125. No matter how great that bike was. My ears were ringing just watching the video and I can imaging the blisters on my hands because the bikes vibrated so badly.
Sweden should remake those Husqvarna
❤
Barstow to vegas back when
Mint 400 as well
This is a video of how not to ride in a motocross ( although it was humorous ) .
Jeez o peet man!
looks like you're getting tired half way through. Have to be in top condition to ride these beasts.
You're exactly right. I got pumped up halfway through lap two, then I had to back off and just finish the race. Tons of fun though!
Ol husky was gone
Road a 1973 tm 400 Suzuki and survived
ONLY 50 years ago .....................
Looks like there are some "vintage" riders out there too. Good for them.
Click it up a gear.
point of view. must be an old yamaha....i raced those......not enough. suspension....twin shocker.....plenty. horsepower....
very painful. experience
Are they just going to sit there and Rev their engines all day?
somebody tell this guy the inside is always faster
Dont see any motox videos on your channel there pro..
@@Sandman66 doesn't take videos to state an obvious fact that most people learned the first time they raced
@@kepler240 Some people just aren't happy unless they have something to complain about.
@@Sandman66 Most of these guys don't even care where they place, it's just a whole lotta fun riding around the track!
@@savage22bolt32 where the fuk am I complaining? I'm just making an observation. Any rider would say the same thing
Two minutes ill never get back.
