I own the blue dial version. Bought it on sale at Macy’s for only $180. I love this watch with a passion. 39mm and no complications in an automatic powered package is really rare in this price range. My only gripe is that the stock strap is unbelievably long. I have 7” wrists and the strap was on the last hole for me and still wiggled. Had to switch it out.
Edit: width for straps is actually 20mm on this watch. It tapers down to 18mm at the buckle.

I’ve only seen photos of the blue version but i bet it’s definitely a stunner in person. It appears like you get more of a sunburst on the blue, where the black is more muted. Love no complications as well - makes it a perfect easy go-to in the mornings when I’m in a rush to get out the door. Great catch on the band/lug width - definitely 20mm. Thanks for sharing your thoughts... might have to see if I can find the blue flavor in person!

Rich Paxton I had the same problem with the strap. I got a Shinola strap for it. I highly recommend it.

If Bulova focused on releases like this instead of their oversized goofy ass designs they would absolutely dominate the lower price point.

Yeah this watch sitting in a case with Bulova’s other offerings definitely makes it feel like the odd one out, which is super unfortunate considering it’s such a great watch!

There is a silver stainless steel version of this watch out there for 250 in Italy. It is beautiful. I wish they had it here I would have bought it over the gold at Macy's. Classic looking.

Nice! I know they make a stainless steel with a blue dial. Haven’t seen it in person, but the photos are gorgeous... definitely be a tough choice between the gold and silver!

Nice video. I think the case is the star of the show. Love the stepped design and proportions.

Agreed! A rarity from Bulova outside of their Special Collections - definitely hope to see more pieces like these from them.

Your strap is much much better than the one from factory. I love how it looks

Thanks! It’s a black lizard leather - can’t recall how much I paid for it but I think it pairs wells after switching out the hardware from the original! Appreciate you taking the time to share! 🍻

The 1950s originals with this dial and various lug designs were 32mm cases.

I really want to love Bulova and their offerings. But the watches run so large and expensive. Just grabbed this new for just over $103. Which is cheaper than a SNK809. I'm huge sucker for all these "archive, herritage, vintage" releases. Also funny, this thing is more true to size than their Sinatra series. What's going on Bulova???

Looked nice enough, too large for me to wear, shame about the case back, I own a 1960 Bulova with a black dial:
    Case: 32.5mm
    With crown: 35.5mm
    Lug to lug: 38.3mm
    Lug width: 17.9mm
    Depth: 11.8mm
Movement: 11 AFAC Swiss Unadjusted 17 Jewels
Bulova was founded and incorporated as the J. Bulova Company in 1875 by Bohemian immigrant Joseph Bulova. It was reincorporated under the name Bulova Watch Company in 1923, became part of the Loews Corporation in 1979, and was sold to Citizen at the end of 2007.

I have the blue dial stainless version which I think looks better. The only thing I don’t like is that the movement is noisy, and there’s only an 8 hour reserve.

I’ve seen the SS blue version and it’s quite a good looking watch and will likely “wear” a bit better than the plated gold version for sure. The black version seems to read more vintage to me, which is likely why I gravitated to it. I do agree that the movement is a bit of disappointment - especially with the exhibition caseback. I really wish that they’d spring for the higher end Miyota movement but I know that would take this $200 watch into $3-400 range I bet, which would have taken this out of impulse buy consideration for me. The watch itself feels very much on par (or better) than Timex’s automatic offerings. Appreciate the comments and hope you’re still enjoying your clipper!

I'm not crazy about the band either. Whats the best band to get for this watch? Thanks! (I want black leather. Dressy prob)

Several leather band makers out there so hard to give you a definitive recommendation. I believe the one in the video is a De Beers brand I had laying around if that helps! Thanks for sharing! 🍻

Apologies! Whole life I’ve been pronouncing it wrong - crazy enough, I am almost positive that I picked up the pronunciation from when I’ve shopped at Macy’s in the past. Thanks for the correction... I’ll be try to be more diligent in the future on checking myself.

They're owned by Citizen, so they went with the oversized goofy ass designs of Bulova's. The very first watch I ever had was a Bulova for my 13th. birthday from my grandparents. That was 1957. :)
