Yes, this is my favourite PTX song. It was very pioneering at the time of its creation. There were a lot of great a capella bands, but PTX set out on completely new paths within the genre. And this clip was a unique start. A perfect futuristic video clip shot for a few bucks at home in the chamber, and a great imitation of a number of musical instruments using only a voice. And all this with a minimum of post-production.
This is a great story. Filmed for $400 in Avi and Kevin's apt. Ptx won a Grammy award for this arrangement. There is a live version of this that shows them pull it off without all the production. Also you would love 'Love again' its an original and awesome.
It crushed the other songs for the year. As to the whole "becoming a fanatic"... It is why we are constantly searching for new reactors. Our friends and family are tired of up saying how great they are.
I could listen to these kids all day. My family does get tired of the same group. But I never tire of high standards, perfect intonation, and musicianship of the highest order. Other bands sound off pitch after PTX, with s couple of exceptions - Home Free and Voiceplay so far.
@@wendillon92 I may be wrong, but I've heard that if you don't get the correct thickness then that happens. My guess is that Avi got some that were too thick.
I love the versatility of human communication. "Here is the review" [Proceeds to make angry grunts and cries of "No!" all through the video, and everyone in the audience understands perfectly that it's actually high praise].
If you pay attention you will notice that while Avi is singing Television, Kirstie is singing Around the World as a countertune. It also won them their first Grammy.
The reason you don't see Kevin's eyes is that he tried to put on the contacts, but couldn't handle them, so they went with the shades. If you look close, Avi's eyes are all red from them. I got this information from an interview they gave. :)
I have news for you, once a Pentaholic, always a Pentaholic!! You’re in great company!! Run to You , Sing, Cracked, New Years Day, and Happy Now are all amazing originals by PTX!! Mary Did You Know and That’s Christmas to Me are must dos for the upcoming Christmas season!!
I have seen them live and they are that good. Amazing. I even have a clip of them singing at the concert I went to with no mics. They sang their original "Run to You" standing at the front of the stage with no mics. You could have heard a pin drop in that full auditorium while they sang. It was the highlight of the concert for me!
Just a side note....Scott and Mitch started their own thing called superfruit. They’ve put out some beautiful work. Also, some cheeky work! Plus their own albums with all original work. You’ll love it
Hi Barry! They're all great in this one, (you're right, Mitch's voice is perfect for this electronic sound,) but I also think Avi and Kevin working so beautifully in tandem is what really makes this medley sparkle. They're often described as 'the meat and potatoes' of Pentatonix, and it's songs like this that really showcase just how vital they are to the whole sound of the group.

My 2 fav PTX songs are Happy Now, It truly makes me feel happy, by the end I am smiling no matter my current mood. Then "Can you feel the love tonight" The absolute beauty of the harmonies and multiple key changes with Matt's bassline...just unngh! Both are highly qualitacious..😊

Yep, RUclips's fault, not Barry's. This was actually a lot more bearable than what a lot of people do with cutting out part of the reaction. I find pausing to be pretty tolerable too, although still painful, but given the alternative...anything's better than those jarring, sudden cuts.
We'll make a Pentaholic out of you yet Barry love!! They are incredible on every level!! When you can't keep yourself from grooving right along with them and you really have to struggle not to sing along. And yes, Avi had cornrows and was shirtless!! You need to listen to Avi's solo music, he's incredible! I recommend Change on the Rise, he recorded all the instruments and vocals for this one, and he usually directs or is heavily invested in the video, that is always filmed on his cabin on the woods. I was really sad to see him left Pentatonix, but I'm really glad now that I see his full potential. He is also HOT NOW!

I’ve been watching this video for years. All this time, I thought it was one song, called Daft Punk. Then last month (?), a reactor mentioned how he likes Daft Punks music and Pentatonix did a great job... ohhhh .. so I googled Daft Punk and wow... Also, I can’t believe all these years I didn’t notice Avi wasn’t wearing a shirt.

Kevin was unable to put contact lenses into his eyes, that is why he wears futuristic glasses instead.
Poor Avi's eyes seem to be pretty irritated by the lenses too, they're pretty red

Yes! I first heard Run To You when I saw them live. It was so quiet in the room. The beauty of the harmonies made me tear up.
I saw them Live in London and they sang "Light in the Hallway" without a Microphone and it was gorgeous!!
If you notice, they are so stoic and don't blink their eyes! What an amazing video. Great job, PTX!!!

Then last month (?), a reactor mentioned how he likes Daft Punks music and Pentatonix did a great job... ohhhh .. so I googled Daft Punk and wow... Also, I can’t believe all these years I didn’t notice Avi wasn’t wearing a shirt.

Great reaction, Barry. Probably my 2 favorite PTX videos are "NO" and "Gold". I guess I like 1-word songs? And there is a live version on NPR of "Run to You", a PTX original song that I prefer over the official video.
