Excellent demo. I have experimented with formations but I mostly use Sky Dolly now to record VR flights so I can play them back later on my widescreen monitor to get better screenshots and sometimes video. It's usually pretty smooth for one plane. Formations often show the "jerky" effect where some replay aircraft will jump around. Apparently the developer has done all he can to alleviate this.
Hey Bruce, sorry I missed your comment. I tried VR with the HP headset. My first liftoff and flight got me airsick from the height! OMG had to return the HP. I'm jealous of you guys who can use it. The plane looked so real! You sure can't get that from a monitor. I went to exterior view and was standing next to a life size plane UNREAL!!! Since I look for interesting views for my videos, I think during playback and splicing, I just cut any jumpy planes out. But that does leave lots of video of them flying smoothly. Where do you like flying in VR? Sedona would be colorful... mike
You sure can! Start the replay in any of the planes, go to drone camera and uncheck the 'follow' option. Then maneuver the camera to where you want to sit and watch.
I've tried this flying the T1 Red Arrow Hawk but find when replaying the previous flight to fly along in formation that the first plane is not smooth and jerky? Does this have anything to do with the recording settings?
I think that 'glitch' happens in some of my flights also, I have several posted. Sometimes, it's only for a couple seconds. Other times it happens when I get too close. I remember reading in one of the updates several comments mentioning the jerkyness. I don't know if the settings will help the close planes to be smooth, didn't look like it to me. Maybe check if flight dolly has a discord or mod website?! I'd appreciate any info you come up with. Maybe lower the graphics settings to medium to record the flights, and if you decide to record the overall flight with all the planes, kick up your graphics settings before you hit PLAY... and maybe the flight will be smoother... let me know if you learn anything thx
@@MSFS2020_UndertheRadar Many thanks for your input. Still trying different setting. You're right that the closer you get to replay aircraft the more jerky it becomes. I've so far found the best setting to be to set the recording frequency to Auto and replay speed set custom 100%
Have also tried with all AI traffic to OFF and real world weather to OFF. Still get the jerky movement as I fly close to the other plane I am trying to fly in formation with. Not sure what else to try to resolve. Maybe in time SkyDolly will get an update to fix this issue?
Maybe try this way, I must have lucked into my first formation flight, haha, it felt like it. 1 load plane 2 load sky dolly (S.D.) 3 when ready click record on S.D. click until TIMER on right starts 4 fly your flight until you're done (landed)? 5 On S.D. hit 'STOP'... then 'BEGIN' (beginning) 6 change from LOGBOOK to FORMATION - top R (look at diagram underneath to select next plane start location relative to the first one) 7 Press record and both planes start right by each other. G/L
Great tutorial. Just what I wanted to know. Thanks!
Thanks for your view and comment. I got up to 80 parachutes skydollying together once… I was trying for 100 🤣

Hi. Once you've recorded your formation can you watch the playback from the airfield as a spectator? like watching an airshow display.
You sure can! Start the replay in any of the planes, go to drone camera and uncheck the 'follow' option. Then maneuver the camera to where you want to sit and watch.
@@MSFS2020_UndertheRadar Thats great. Thank you 🙂
Great work well done will this work with the H145 helicopter from h p g thanks
Yes, every vehicle land air or sea! If it’s in community folder it works with Sky Dolly. Have fun! Thx for subscribing! 👊🍺🌮
I just dont see any other aircraft other than generic MSFS aircraft, I cant seem to spawn any helicopters?
After you have recorded all of the planes/formation. And then you play the reply, can you then switch between the different planes with the camera?
Yes just double click on any of the plane names you've recorded, and instant jump to that plane
@@MSFS2020_UndertheRadar Nice, good for content creation of formation flights, being able to switch between planes/cockpits👍🏻

Will this work in vr?
EXCELENT! THANKS!
Doesn t work at all. When I load the flight it takes me somewhere along the way and I crash
Maybe try this way, I must have lucked into my first formation flight, haha, it felt like it.
1 load plane
2 load sky dolly (S.D.)
3 when ready click record on S.D.
click until TIMER on right starts
4 fly your flight until you're done (landed)?
5 On S.D. hit 'STOP'... then 'BEGIN' (beginning)
6 change from LOGBOOK to FORMATION - top R
(look at diagram underneath to select next plane start location relative to the first one)
7 Press record and both planes start right by each other. G/L
@@MSFS2020_UndertheRadar thanks but I m not tryin to record formation. Only a simple flight
