- The Kent & East Sussex Railway would celebrate their half-century in style, as they held their '50th Anniversary Gala' over the weekend of June 1st-2nd.
The K&ESR opened as a fledgling heritage railway in June 1974, with operations limited to a short section of track. 50 years later, thanks to the continued efforts of their volunteers and staff, the public can now enjoy a journey of 10½ miles between Tenterden and Bodiam. Based at Robertsbridge Junction, the Rother Valley Railway is a separate fledging heritage railway at the western end of the former K&ESR. A recent public inquiry approved the rebuilding and reopenning of the missing line between Bodiam and Robertsbridge Junction. The eventual result of this will see the K&ESR partnered with the Rother Valley Railway, operating over a stretch of 13½ miles.
Joining the resident fleet on the line between Tenterden and Bodiam would be U Class - 31806, visiting from the Swanage Railway. Currently on hire to the K&ESR, 4MT - 76017 would also star across the weekend. At Robertsbridge Junction, 70000 "Britannia" would top and tail a short shuttle service with recently outshopped GBRf Class 73 - 73128, along the currently operable section of track to Northbridge Street. 73128 would be receive the name "Kent & East Sussex Railway" during the event. The gala would feature an intensive timetable between Tenterden and Bodiam, with frequent trains tackling the steep 1-in-50 gradient of Tenterden Bank.

Great coverage Matt. 😊
Thank you
A fabulous showcase for the railway. You caught every moment and some great locations..... as ever. Brilliant!
Thanks very much. The kind words are greatly appreciated.
Excellent Matt
Cheers
Excellent presentation and extremely professional, thank you. I was on several of the trains so to see them from the lineside perspective is great. Well done!
Brilliant video fantastic to see so many different locomotives in one video just love the sound of them keep up with your amazing work and videos Bernard
Great day overall, I was on both the Standard 4 heading towards Bodiam and the tripleheader at the end. The tripleheader was late due to bus problems at Robertsbridge, but there are worse ways to be taken back to the car!
Wow! 😮
Cheers

@@gunterbartsch9284 Thank you, it's appreciated
31806 having a short holiday away from it's home in Swanage.
Tenterden bank at its best.
Thank you!
Glad you enjoyed it
31806 😍😍😍😍😍😍
That was a bit of a different location👍 Lots of little engines showing how it can be done. Surprise to see Brit there, more used to Terrier and USA tank working. Tripod seems to be OK?
A railway I'm still getting to grips with, but enjoying the challenge. Definitely a good variety on show for the gala!
Still very much a learning curve, and one I'm not too convinced over. The handle is longer for finer movement, and the panning is smoother when in constant motion. However, it struggles to start panning, and the tilting is noticeably jolted.
Sorry you're having problems, you edit it well👍👍👍 I'm always appreciative of your excellent vids and dedication in bringing us sights, sounds and news from around the country and your vid descriptions give us all the details and more. Thank you
@bobingram6912 The kind words are always greatly appreciated, thank you. Hoping to get a proper grasp on it over the Bulleid Gala.
Where would these beauties be in Europe? Britain? Ireland?
South-east England
Brilliant shots, I think Northiam may have stolen the show!
Thank you! Still getting used to the new tripod head, and its quirks.
Its second run up Tenterden Bank left us onlookers speechless
@@TheSouthernerYTChannel was a terrific display!
@TheSouthernerYTChannel hands down Northiam stole the show.. couldn't believe how it ran up tenterxen bank on Saturday!!
31806 has gone east 🚂?
