Definitely not the worst. We use to go visit my grandparents in clacton when they were alive and I loved walking down pier avenue and the arcade's to the seafront. I can also remember butlins, which makes me feel old haha 😂
Hi.Tim no it shouldn't,I used to go when I was a kids say 30 - 20 years. I went a in 2019 and still lovely. All places have some bad run down parts, But when at the seaside you don't take that into account.clacton has improved massively over the few years.People can say anymore is bad, but go there for your self and you know it's great.I live near mablethorpe and skegness is down the road.I prefer clacton over skegness anyway.Stay safe Tim 😀
I just googled Clacton and it gives 15 reasons why it’s the worst place, but was from 2020. After watching this video I certainly would visit but I live only 9 miles from Blackpool and not far from Lytham St Anne’s. ❤️
No way, Clacton is lovely with a great community feel. If people don’t like it then they’re more than welcome to go elsewhere.
I live in Clacton, on 'Martello Bay', the Butlins site, I think its lovely.
I live in Clacton, and I love to go down and walk along the seafront. We had great fun in the summer with family visiting, and the pier prices are really reasonable, great ice cream and chips cooked in dripping..yum!. I really like it here.

I live in Holland on sea 20 mims up the road from clacton I've lived here all my 16 year I know people think clacton is crap it isn't it has more to offer then u think it does.
@@leannewallace9768 i moved to clacton 2 years ago. not regretted a moment. and Holland has the most amazing seafronts and beaches. i swim every day there in summer. wonderful

Voted worst seaside ressot???are joking! Clacton seaside is clean , fine sand, calm water! coffee shoos, restaurants, ice cream shop, Toby Calvary, beautiful gardens, Pier with amusement,emtertainment, fishing etc For me Clacton seaside is one of the most beautiful seaside in England!

We talked about coming to Clacton for a holiday when my parents were alive,but sadly never made it.I am disabled due to degenerative spine conditions and can't go out,your videos cheer me up.I can't see why it's been voted one of the worst resorts.

Hi Tim, Great video sir!. I also heared about Clacton being voted the worst seaside resort before you even posted this video, which i think is utterly wrong of whoever did say it was to quote 'The Worst Seaside Resort!". Clacton is my childhood home, i grew up and lived there with my mum and dad thoughout the 1980s and have many fond and mostly happy memories of it. To this very day i still go back every single year for a break as i now live in Birmingham, Westmidlands (I hate cites and have never really liked living here but beucase of work i'm stuck here). Give me good old Clacton-On-Sea any day compared to Birmingham. Yes I still love Clacton and i always will no matter what. I will always go back there even when i'm old.

I really like clacton though i live in a village location at the moment which is quite nice.i think id maybe like to try living nearer to the seafront.
The town is a bit rough round the edges but I go to Clacton every day and walk along the front near the Martello Bay area where the old Butlins once was. Its really nice, I love it.!

Hi D Hi was filmed there. Also there was a Killer Whale on the pier. Called Nemo I think. I'm sure he was moved because of poor care. He was a major news story at the time.
Clacton beaches are brilliant, the amenities are like all fading seaside resorts fading, but I actually like that. Love going Clacton all year round. The Worst? Nah! Not having that.

When I stayed with my grandad he used to take me to your theatre 50 years ago! When we went shopping in town on a Saturday morning he used to park his Vauxhall Viva in your car park for free while we went and had coffee in Daveys restaurant 🙈

Municipal gardens look so sad in winter time - its important though for local well being and mindfulness that they are retained and restored to their floral glory every year. I love a walk in the park in the sunshine

The last time I went there was in the 1960s as a small child. I vaguely remember seeing tall street lights with vertical shaped cylinders on top and a boat on a roundabout. It seemed OK for a day out back then.

My first visit to Clacton was in the late 60,s as a child ,went to Butlins ,which closed about 30 yrs ago and is now a housing estate

I Love Clayton. It was my first ever job working away from home on the ‘Clacton Clearwater’ scheme way back in 1997 for Amec Tunnelling. Our offices were up on Holland Haven Country Park. I spent every Thursday night in Tom Peppers, before walking round the corner to The Zone, which became Rumours 2!

Because of the drunk people who stumble around town day in day out. Because of the little idiots going around causing trouble. Every shop is closing in the high street and being filled with either a 99p store or a charity shop. I've lived here my whole life and its gone down hill. But summer brings alot of people here and it is nice. But behind the scenes, it's not so good

@@traceybeerling4776 no of course it doesn't! There's alot of worse places out there hands down. It does have its really nice points but as I said, if you dive a little deeper it certainly can be rough

Many happy memories of Clacton! It really all looks so much improved and yes huge investment has gone into the pier. I remember the dolphin shows on the pier as a child and as a teenager Oscars the nightclub which was to the right of the entrance of the pier 😀
Also all along Pier Avenue outside the amusements they used to have giant daleks which you put a penny into and they took you for a ride…….yes! Also on the corner of Pier Avenue was Tubby Issacs seafood hut and at the entrance to The Pavillion was a laughing clown or policeman I can’t remember which in a glass case who used to laugh non stop really loud ALL day!

Many thanks for this. Clacton was our annual holiday during the 70s. This brought back many fond memories. In my view Clacton is not the worst seaside place at all. The roller coaster I think is called Stella's Revenge. This replaced the old wooden coaster called Steel Stella. In the clips of the upside down house, towards the left in the distance there is some old buildings with pointed facades. These used to be Self catering holiday flats - 21 Marine Parade East owned by Sacks Properties. The Pavilion was full of very old amusement machines and had a laughing policeman outside. Many many thanks for bringing back fond memories from many decades ago.

Hi Tim, another great video, No Clacton isn’t the worst seaside resort, it is a lovely place to visit as me & my wife go there regular as we are going this coming Monday for a week staying at Martello Beach Holiday Park, it is my favourite place to go on holiday with my wife, son & 2 dogs 😊
The section of the pier where the little boats and the flume ride is used to be the swimming pool, where later there was a dolphinarium where you could watch them do tricks, forgive me for going to see the show, I was a small child and it was the 1970's, they later housed some killer whales and seals :( but all that stopped by the mid 80's and that section was unused till the revamp a few years back.

I have worked in Clacton on and off for years, I love the old place. Like most English seaside towns it has its problems but it is a great place - especially on a sunny June afternoon.

Just a few metres north is Holland on sea beach , a lovely place to swim on warm summer days.
Parking is free along most of the seafront too.
I can also recommend a fantastic walk along the beach , flags cafe do some great food.

Always had our holidays in Clacton on sea it was lovely spending our time there, they used to have some trains on a track for children to ride on that was fun, an auntie lived in Clacton, I remember steel Stella and there was a lovely place we went to play tennis and golf putting they had 2 areas you could play..

Went in July 2019 whe it was 30+ degrees and it was amazing. Don't know how it can be voted worst resort in uk. Its easily on par with great yarmouth in my opinion which I love too.

I was born in Clacton and have lived here my entire life. No idea why it gets such a bad rap. It could be better and needs more shops as most on the high street have closed down. You should come down and make a video when we have the air show. You think it’s busy during the summer. Can’t move for people during those two days. Hope we get a full air show this year as we haven’t done recently due to COVID.

My mum was born in clacton and we use to go visit my grandparents there when they were alive. Will always have great memories of tbr place and definitely don't understand why it got named the worst resort. The air show is a great day out ♥️

I live in clacton and it’s not as bad as people think, however working on the pavilion which is just before the pier is the worst. When working there we wasn’t allowed to wear shorts only black jeans and not allowed sunglasses in the summer as it’s face concealing

3:41 Hi mate, just thought I’d mention that the wheel along the top was owned by the Pavilion and cost £4, this was rented by the company for the summer season. Meanwhile, the pier’s wheel cost £2 and later went up to £4. The pier leased the wheel from a amusement company for the summer season and into November. They later took down this wheel for maintenance but mainly because the wheel had other commitments overs the holiday season which the pier honoured. Later, the pier bought the wheel outright so it should remain there permanently. This then caused the price to hike to £4. How do I know this, cos I worked on it lol.

It is sad the beach trees aren't there.
We came here in the summer , it was nice liked the fact we had a Toby carvery first as we couldn't find any where to park , would Def come back next summer , went on big wheel on beach and went on land train that was fun

Back in the late 70's / early 80's use to be my favourite seaside for a day trip. Thosedays Butlins was in Clacton, but to be honest I do not believe it's the worst seaside.
I last went to Clacton in 1997 and it was nice then 👍🏻👍🏻😁😁

That was amazing me and my fiancee might be going back there this year but shame my childhood cafe geogina has closed cheap prices for food and drink and people were wonderful working in there use go in there when i was little on day visit and past two years me and my fiancee been there its a gorgeous place

Back in the 80s They used to be a big Dodgers Track , which was just as you went On to.
Clacton pier And during the winter months They would move the cars away and it would become a ice skating rink

clacton is a place many great memories are made, its jaywick that gives clacton a bad name, but jaywick is a great place if you just visit it.

We visited Jaywick last year as it was recommended to us for dog walking.
Beach was cracking and it was a pleasant few hours.
I was a little shocked at a very modern apartment block that has been built next to what I thought was a run down holiday park.
I spoke to a few locals and they informed me this was a little village/town and people lived in the run down area.
I got back to our chalet and googled Jaywick and found out a TV programme had featured this place.
Shocked that a place exists like that in UK.
It saddens me that places like that have been overlooked by local councils etc.
The East Coast seems to have been left to it’s own devices compared to South Coast.
We had a great week in the area and would go again.

Lived in clacton over 40 years, over the last few years it has had a lot of work done and now it is a great place to live or visit. I think a lot of people rate clacton so bad is due to the fact its next door to jaywick and some parts of jaywick are very run down.

Just why do people say that this is the worst beach and pier it's probably the best as the rides and food and the best. Plus the prices for the rides are alright.

Just visited Clacton 2 weeks ago. Its seaside looks great and the side walk also nice. However do not get at any price around the Mcdonald's by the late afternoon or evening times as I saw youngsters were harassing older people and even tourists too. Seaside feels safe (even with many weed smokers around) but the town centre is cruel.

@@WalkWithMeTim Yes unfortunately. As at least what I saw for both evenings youngsters as like 12-15 years olds were around the town centre (we went there around 5pm and 8pm). At around 5pm we saw them going to some old drunk guys(probably homeless people) throwing them with rocks or whatever it was and insulting them, even the police came around so we thought the situation will be handled and finished. But later when we gone back to buy some foods we saw them again, they were shouting after a young couple and started even follow them. It wasnt my best seaside town experience unfortunately.

I’m mystified as to why it’s been named the worst resort. I last went about 1987 although no doubt much has changed since then. I loved the pier and The seafront Gardens. A complete mystery?

Probably has something to do with the high chance of getting glassed in the clubs and Jaywick being right next door which is one of the most deprived areas in Europe
Well there's a shock! Tell you what, teach in the schools there and you will not only understand why people outside of Clacton feel the way they do about Clacton and why it has such a reputation but also fear for the future of the UK because many other places are copying Clacton.

I was there in August last year, and total dissapointed. It's look such a poor, with compare with other seafronts, like Eastbourne, or Brighton. And that organization on railway station - such a nightmare. I would come back to any other seafront town, but not there. For sure!

What would most seaside resorts be without their numerous arcades. Part of the fabric. But where I live, in Thailand, all such places are banned. No slot machines, and not even the cranes where you can never win a prize are legal. They are regarded as gambling, which is prohibited, and a group of European pensioners were even arrested for playing Bridge. So were people for playing darts in a pub without a license. There is no such license :)

Used to go to Clacton a lot as a child absolutely loved it, my kids have been aswell and loved it just as much

You could make more of the wonderful new, gently sloping beaches that stretch for miles from the pier to beyond Holland Haven, with plenty of free parking. During lockdown there was no problem with overcrowded beaches. You can swim comfortably at both high and low tide on the east side, whereas at low tide west of the pier the water tends to go a long way out and become too shallow. Not all visitors want to go to the amusements and off-road cycling is permitted all the way via Holland Haven to Frinton.
Some interesting points
I honestly cant see why people choose to go abroad so much (maybe the weather) when theres so many great places to visit in the UK.
