    We were very fortunate to have LKY and his team who were very astute in managing our foreign and domestic policies and who were courageous and skilful enough to enable tiny Singapore to thrive and prosper. LKY once said, when 2 elephants fight, the grass gets trampled? We have to navigate extremely cautiously now that the US has decided to challenge China militarily? We all have to pray that our current leaders are as astute and courageous as our pioneering leaders. I hope tiny Singapore can play a successful role in preventing an existential threat for all humanity - war between 2 nuclear-armed countries. If America views China as an existential threat, she will not hesitate to use her nuclear arms surely, and surely China will respond in kind to protect herself?

    Dr Vivian spoke in a politically balanced manner.
    Regarding the statement about USA's investments in Singapore, I wish to say the following.
    Being Singapore's largest FDI is welcome as long as the USA's investments do not carry a burden of having to choose sides if USA enters into a conflict with China or Russia. Singapore must remain neutral at all costs.
    My serious concern is US Government does not hesitate to impose economic sanctions on any country in various forms if the country is perceived to be not an ally but a potential adversary.

      I believe Singapore Government can engage both China & USA in a balanced and rational manner. However, I personally have no faith in USA behaving rationally.
      Remember former President George Bush Junior's famous cliche, "You are either with us or against us". Will Biden or his successor apply the same cliche if a conflict arises between China & USA?
      Of course, I earnestly hope Singapore will not succumb to such pressure from USA.
      I am confident China will not behave like USA.

US politicians are a reflection of the American people's perception of the world and 80% of the US citizens are clueless of the world around them and everything is centered around the US how can their leaders even accept and cooperate with China?? Remember 40% of Americans that support Trump still thinks global warming is a Chinese conspiracy! Singapore is now treading on egg shells and I really hope our leaders have contingency plans for the worst case scenarios of the current technological and trade war between China and the US.

Please! I am a Singaporean living in China for 14years . The world is in this current state of development and relative prosperity because of the vision of the US and their commitment to freedom and liberty. That is why we are no longer living in the shadows of draconian rule and the madness and suffering of Communism . We are all beneficiaries and continue to benefit from a world that can trade openly and freely .China included from the time they entered the WTO . @@beatneek100 - Eh did u not see what happen in Afghanistan, Syria, Libya, Iraq, etc.. and the did u not know the 40 years of sanctions in Iran did virtually nothing, but cause hardship to the common Iranian people? Lets not pretend that the world is in shades of white and black. Both the US and China only work to serve their own interest and what the US has done since WW2 around the whole has good and bad, similarly China is doing the same for its own interest, but there is the big difference here, the US has engage in countless wars/conflicts since WW2 and have more than 750+ military bases around the whole. Russia and China aren't the countries that are going around to destabilize and causing regime change around the world its the US that is doing so and that is to feed its Military Industrial Complex go google and search companies like Raytheon Technologies, Lockheed Martin, General Dynamics, Boeing, Northrop Grumman, etc.. these companies are feeding on the wars around the war and u are cocoon into absolute ignorance of what is really happening around the world.... go look at the stock of these companies the last 40 years and u can see how much it has grown and than u look at the conflicts started by the US and their proxy wars... US are bombing Somalia, and Syria even today under Biden.... Keep reading main stream media and keep getting told how to think.

    • @beatneek100
      @beatneek100 3 года назад

      Yes. US have gone into all these countries and left them in tatters under the guise of help and provably to serve their own interest . if they had not ? What will those countries be like today .? actually ..what will our world be like today ? Yes.. it is known that they are playing both sides and they are supplying the arms and making a fortune from what they are starting . My point is They have shaped the global economy into one that is guided by laws and enough transparency to at least function on a greater scale than ever before ,where countries can participate in open and fair trade . I am not saying they are without agenda in their intentions .I am just stating the fact that had US not taken the role they had on the world stage , we will most likely not be living in this world of relative peace, stability and prosperity for the last few decades up till today. it is easy to point out all that they have been doing that is quite hard to swallow but they also have sacrificed and invested in the world they believed in. Is it ideology ,bad policies or something that had to be done in the defence of a world where countries around the world can be safe and free, we will never really know .

    • @albertwong1919
      @albertwong1919 3 года назад +3

      @@beatneek100 - Than u miss the point! Now the US is refusing to play by the same rules they helped created... applying sanctions and causing disruption to the global supply chain. Lets not be so naive to think that the US help create WTO, WHO, UN, etc.. out of good will, after WW2 the US 40% of the world's economy, u can now see the picture why the US need a stable world because it is tied to their economic success to have a rules base order. Now US is around 20-25% of the world's economy and China is fast catching up and overtaking the US, also if u know your history China and India was the 2 dominant powers in the world's economy around 2 centuries ago.
      Now your argument about the US creating a stable environment?? Seriously it is US direct interest to have a stable world because they are 20-25% of the world's economy, but that doesnt rule out the fact they have impose wars/proxy wars on smaller countries that arent even developing to feed their Military Industrial Complex and in todays world where information is readily available the US is finding it very difficult to sell to the world why they are bombing Somalia and even Syria for that matter! The US have occupied most of Syria's oil field and they already have Iraq's oil fields....
      So what has China done in the past 40-50 years... they have put in huge infrastructure in their own country, since u lived in China for 14 years u should have seen all this happening with your very own eyes. Have u been to US cities? I have studied in the US 2 decades ago and their cities are the same even today. California dont even have a high speed rail/train system.... and US is suppose to be a super power. Yet the US spend 1Trillion on Afghanistan for 20 years(actually US was in Afghanistan since 1979), and they dont even have a universal healthcare for their own people??? 1 Trillion USD they can have universal healthcare for 50 years for their own people.

      Yes it is wise to remain neutral but to be sovereign is where the true stand lies for a nation that was fought over by the east and west which was represented by the east India company and the British (corporates and the crown) being a strategic trading port. Govts have swayed either side and yet ones bank is where ones policies derive from. When it is foreign controlled and not state owned one is manipulated due to debt and conditions of loan agreements. Singapore can do much better to learn from China and her stand for sole nation control.

  • @tinatang1

    The only worry I have of Spore's ability to remain neutral (to be useful and not used) in this geopolitical contest, is our reliance on US investments because everyone knows that the US is governed by its huge corporations, especially her military industrial complex, which control US politicians. The politicians in the US do not govern for the good of Americans but to enrich the military industrial complex. Just look at all the 100+ wars the US has waged since 1945. Eisenhower's warning has come true. THE US has allowed her foreign policies to be directed by their military industrial complex!

      The Biden administration has passed a bill to devote 500 million US$ in a comprehensive propaganda campaign to demonise China to Americans and the world - US$500 million per year for the next 5 years! Their mainstream media has a worldwide audience, including Singaporeans, so the anti-China narratives will brainwash millions, including naive Singaporeans! Just look at their smearing of Chinese vaccines in SEA and the world and look at the accusation that covid 19 is a man made virus leaked from a Wuhan virology lab. You will not hear American media calling for a similar investigation into the Fort Detrick bilogical weapons lab where there is considerable evidence that an outbreak of pneumonia-like deaths attributed to vaping and influenza near Fort Detrick in July 2019 could have been due to covid-19 instead! Blood tests in December 2019 showed that nearly 5 million Americans had covid-19 antibodies in December 2019 too! Do the math and it looks like covid-19 could have already been quite pervasive in America before Wuhan identified its first case on 1st Dec 2019. Remember also that nearly 300 US soldiers went to Wuhan in October 2019 to participate in the international military games and coincidentally the outbreak of covid-19 occurred in Wuhan!

    An old stone man carving rock by the sea. The sun will burn it. He'll call on God to wish I was the sun. ‎‎"Be" God says. It'll be the sun. But the clouds come and cover the sun, and it has no judgment. ‎‎He wants to be a cloud. "Be" God says. It'll be a cloud. When the wind picks up, the cloud becomes the toy of the wind. ‎‎He wants to be the wind this time. God tells him to be. ‎‎The wind dominates everywhere, there's a storm, there's a hurricane. He bows to everything. Just when he's in a good mood, he comes across a big rock. ‎‎The rock doesn't tell me if you're from there! You know, God also lets it be a rock. ‎‎He stands tall and strong against the world now... He wakes up with a pain in his back.... An old stone man carving the rock. ..‎All thy passions in the end became virtues, and all thy devils, angels.

      That immense framework and planking of concepts to which the needy man clings his whole life long in order to preserve himself is nothing but a scaffolding and toy for the most audacious feats of the liberated intellect. And when it smashes this framework to pieces, throws it into confusion, and puts it back together in an ironic fashion, pairing the most alien things and separating the closest, it is demonstrating that it has no need of these makeshifts of indigence and that it will now be guided by intuitions rather than by concepts. There is no regular path which leads from these intuitions into the land of ghostly schemata, the land of abstractions. There exists no word for these intuitions when man sees them he grows dumb, or else he speaks only in forbidden metaphors and in unheard o,f combinations of concepts. He does this so that by shattering and mocking the old conceptual barriers he may at least correspond creatively to the impression of the powerful present intuition.

      This tree sits alone here on the mountain. He has overcome, growing, and man and beasts. And if he started talking, he wouldn't find anyone to understand him that's how much he grew up‎ now he waits and waits but what is he waiting for? He lives too close to the residence of the clouds, is he waiting for the first lightning bolt?" ‎‎the young man, shaking his hands, shouts: "Yes, what you said is true. I myself had a terrible desire for collapse, while I was aspiring to the high, and you're the lightning that I've always been waiting for! Look, what have I been since you came before me? Envy to you destroyed me!" That's how you say the young man, weeping bitterly. But enchaining him with one arm, took him with him. And after a while, walking next door, began to say: My heart is broken. Your gaze tells me, better than your word, the danger that lurks. You're not free yet, you're still looking for freedom. This search made you stop sleeping and watch all night. You yearn for the free peaks, your spirit is thirsty for stars. But even the worst instincts in you are born to freedom. The wild dogs in your being want freedom, they linger with joy in their prison, when your spirit is working to free itself. You to me are still a prisoner who dreams of freedom. Ah! The soul of such captives becomes very enterprising but also perfidious and evil. Even the liberated spirit needs purification. He still carries bars and mould even his eyes must purify. Yes, I know the danger that's lurking around. But I conjure you, on my love and hope, do not leave your love or hope! You still feel noble, just as noble you still feel those who hold a grudge against you, only tossing mischievous glances at you. You know, you're all in the way. Even the good ones, a man full of nobility stands in their way and even if they say it's good, they'll still be looking for it to remove it. The noble man wants to create new values and a new virtue. The good man loves the old stuff, keeps everything old. The danger, for the noble, is not to become good, but to become insolent, ironic and destructive. I've known, oh! Noble men, who had lost their 'highest hope. And then they'd shame on every higher hope. That's why they lived their lives in passing joys and had no goal beyond the moment. "Spirit is pleasure" so they said. And so their spirit had broken wings, now it crawls on the ground and lies down like a rodent. They once dreamed that they would become heroes, now they're just debauchers. Bitter and fear for them any hero. But I conjure you, my love and my hope, do not banish the hero that is in you! Keep your highest hope holy! That's what my Mama said not Luther. Hypocrisy has its place in the ages of strong belief in which even when one is compelled to exhibit a different belief one does not abandon the belief on already has. I think I said that before!

    To: Everyone Concerned,
    I have done everything right by the book and gotten through the proper channel.
    International Organisation of Immigration (IOM) has already prepared all the relevant necessary documentations, purchase my air-ticket and have also ensured/ secured a clear passage of way at the Athens Airport for my seamless repatriation to Singapore. But yet; when the time comes for the MFA to issue the DOI- Document Of Identification, you refused. Outrightly, rejected the IOM’s Proposal for my repatriation without giving any reason why. They were told to refer back to me but I am just as lost, dumbfounded and appalled as the IOM staffs.
    I would like to know the reason/s why was my repatriation being rejected and after 6 long tedious months of homelessness and starvation in Greece, what’s the Singapore’s MFA purpose behind it? How long more do you intend to keep me this way? I am a Singaporean and you outrightly refused my repatriation without any clarification nor explanation. I am seeking your clarity on this matter. As my life is hanging on a thread. If I have committed a crime, you should repatriate me to face the consequences but you did neither! Please enlighten me?!? You refused to repatriate me and you refused to revoke my Citizenship?!? I am stuck in a precarious situation here! I believe I have every right to know what is going on and your intentions behind these senseless actions.
    Looking forward for your appropriate response.
    Your Extremely Disgusted Singaporean,
    Eric Ong.
