See what a silver crank does for the looks of a bike. I keep saying group manufacturers need to have a silver offering. I was really hoping for Shimano to do it when they introduced the new 9200 because the 9000 was so popular. That crank on that all black bike is bling 100%.
She is very informative, funny and I love the double tunnel vision look a like of her.....lol The bike looks like from Mars, expensive and a dream bike.... Thank you
there are a few choices for ITA type track crank. i think she wanted to use more lightweight track crank, but there would be no choices due to pinarello`s bottom bracket type.
Were it not for GCN coverage of track events I would have absolutely no clue as to what madison means in reference to those cool handlebars. Thanks guys!
I do love those handlebars they look great. Just wondering with these having hoods you should test on the velodrome which is quicker hoods or drops? As everyone says on the hoods is quicker now
@@SammyAme the aero part has been said in at least one GCN vid. i think it's the one about aero on a budget featuring Ollie. as for the second one, that's also true for descending. the drops just give you a more secure grip on the bars when you're really pulling on it when sprinting, or when you're trying to brake on the descents. that's why you see pros still using the drops on really fast and technical descents, and sprinters like Cavendish using it when sprinting really hard.
I reckon drops are faster. On a straight and fairly level stretch of road, with forest each side, so not subject to much wind, I see that my speed picks up when I switch to the drops. (On the hoods, I ride with level forearms.) Admittedly this could be partly psychological, that is, if I speed up because I believe I will.
@@luukrutten1295 Is that how saddle height is usually measured on track bikes? This is interesting because on the featured pro bikes it is usually measured from the center of the BB.
A very nice looking bike, however it narrowly misses out on a super-nice because some areas of it appeared to have been ridden through a muddy field. 😛

That is one of the best looking bikes I have ever seen in my entire life, I would switch from road to track just to have an excuse to buy one, hell I would even convert it to a road race bike myself
Super-nice. Well, it would have been if you'd had the valves lined up! 😉 To my eyes (and, yes, I may be a bit of a roadie), those bars look so odd with no brakes or gear shifters. But I can see how much Manon loves them, so they must be good. Those tyres must be rock-hard at 180 to 200 psi. I assume you'd use an air compressor to get those pressures, because I struggle to get my tyres up to 110 psi with a track pump, and those have nearly twice the pressure in there!
High pressure track pumps must be designed slightly different (correct me if I'm wrong) but I don't seem to have issues pumping mine up to 180. Rock hard tyres on the boards are sublime as indoor tracks are super smooth and super fast!
@NonCoinCollector That's just a typical sound for track bikes running 1/8th chains. Mine is louder than Manon's and sounds like a garden trimmer on a quiet indoor track. I think it might be the carbon frame with huge tubing profiles and carbon wheels all acting like a sound board.
@@TheAlbatorssx i had a feeling, i got an Affinity Kissena i've been riding for about 2 years now. Hope to fly up to NYC next summer and take her to the velodrome
Do you use a computer on the velodrome? I'm interested in how you measure the power from the powertap pedals as you don't see many track riders with a computer. Thanks 🙏.
@@marianneoelund2940 No. you can change rear cog or front chainring without splitting the chain. It’s just a quicker and easier way to split chains as sometimes events call for higher top speeds with big chainrings that need longer chains.
Well, I hope whoever did was shot on the spot! Although, I'd believe there may be someone with to much money and too few brain cells to realise what a sin it would be.
Chain needs to be tight enough, that there is zero possibility for it to derail (run off of the chain ring or cog) under any conditions. If that were to happen at speed, it would be catastrophic.
From what i've been told, NJS chains all make that loud sound. My boy has an Izumi Super Toughness on his track bike and i always joke with him about how gritty his chain sounds.
Yes, the chain must be broken any time the rear wheel is removed for a cog change (note the dropouts open to the rear), so they need a way to break/join the chain many times without wearing out. Cogs may be changed several times per day.
Wheelies? Yes, it's a great bike for wheelies - if you can get the front wheel up in the first place. Maybe that's an idea for a new kind of track event? It would certainly be entertaining for the spectators.
@UCQVYPKTpSWtWYuGo9pa3dGA Sometimes that happens unintentionally. I saw a frightening video of a Ferrari owner losing control of his car, only minutes after driving it off the dealer's lot. He got a little too heavy on the accelerator and it started fishtailing until it encountered a parked car.
That's a nice bike but we need more videos of it going fast around a track, Manon needs to put it through its paces now
Love the track and track gear content. Hope to see more of it.
Track bikes rule! Thank you for giving them more attention since Manon joined the team.

Square bottom bracket on a track bike this radical. Interesting choice

At @2:22, is that a screw holding the chain together? Where the chain meets the crank, it looks like the chain pin has a flathead screwdriver head.
Yes, they need to break/join the chain every time the cog is changed, i.e., several times a day.

Top tube appears to be slightly sloping so not quite as aero as it could be without the slope.
That chain looks a little tight. Maybe they did that so that it would be noisy for the sound check.
Chain needs to be tight enough, that there is zero possibility for it to derail (run off of the chain ring or cog) under any conditions. If that were to happen at speed, it would be catastrophic.
Will Manon ever race and/or qualify for an NJS Keirin?!?!

why don't you use a lockring?
Because that bike doesn't need one. It's only ridden in the velodrome.
How is the chain joined? Looks like a slotted flat head bolt at 2:07

Excellent video Manon, love the track bike. Did you not think about washing it before filming it?
Why does a track bike sounds like this if doesn't have a free hub?
It's the rattle of the chain on the cogs, amplified by the surface area of the disc wheel.
