Well, the thing is. That's sorta the UNSC's thing.
Everything in the UNSC fleet looks like a gun because all the ships are built around one huge gun. The MACs essentially take up most of the length of the ship. That's what the ships basically are. They take a big gun and they strap engines, a bridge, and a hanger to it.
Strength of the main MAC? Well, standard frigate gun fires a 600 ton slug at 30 kilometers per second. ODP fires a 3000 ton slug at about 0.04c
So it's somewhere between those.
Yup, The UNSC have a pretty cool design philosophy.
Don't get in the way.
*EVER*
Samuel Wang like the a-10 warthog then
Do don’t forget missile spam
No mention of the hexagonal architecture designed to dissipate plasma blasts? It's the reason it put up such a fight against an entire fleet and also the reason it was the only Halcyon class in service (cost). Typically covenant plasma weapons could 1 or 2 shot UNSC ships because once the plasma hit it would just burn right through the hull. The hexagonal design allowed the hull to spread the plasma out and dissipate it's effectiveness, allowing the ship to take multiple hits and still hit back.
The books have a ton of info on the ship. The mac canon was a special type that came with smaller shredder rounds. They're meant to pretty much explode and shred through ships as the round penetrates to do maximum damage.
actually the service cost is because under the titanium A some metal is honeycombed under the Titanium A and could take quite a beating i think it could lose 99 % of its armor and still could live but was scraped after that because it was total lose
im pretty sure the autumns design predates the covenant arrival. The ship was built with internal braces and armor and was deemed indestructible but it was slow and heavy.
No ship was really designed to counter covenant technology untill Infinity with is forerunner based engines and weapons. You'd need some sort of ultra heat resistant even dispelling layer to deal with magnetically guided blobs of superheated goo, or shields. Even then covvie shields couldnt protect against thier own weapons when a UNSC ship outsmarted them and kited plasma shots back onto them as happened in the books.
kineticdeath Eh I haven't read the books in years. But I swear the autumn was created as a response to the covenant but was deemed far too expensive to reproduce. But you're probably right.
llamapi3 to be fair and honest to you i too have not read those older ones in years either, i am going off memory which in my case can be hit and miss lol. I just recall somewhere that they were "poorly designed" and long since retired. Something about the internal bracing or somehting that made them resistant to weapon damage was why the autumn was picked for the mission
the bracing was honeycombed and at the time that the halcyon was designed it was poorly because it was not cost effective but now they could update the design up size it and replace the reactor because the one in the halcyon was crap it was slow really slow but the autumn was refited and could take a covenant ship because of its fast firing mac cannon it could fire three sussesive shot with out need of reloading the coils of the cannon
I completely understand Cpt.Foley's reaction. I grew up with Star Trek so seeing this boxy container of a ship certainly took me aback. Having actually played the game start to finish and following the series, it has actually grown on me.
I wish there were some images of the retconned ship from the game's remake version since I believe they look 100% more beatiful.
That said, thanks for featuring this ship and I definitely would love to see the alien Covenant's ships featured one day!
ash0man i prefer this kind of big bully, realistic, ships every day over the star trek ones, but thats just my opinión
carso1500 yeah more Star Wars style
"It's a small shell..."
If you call 600 tons of tungsten small.........
please sometime in the future do the infinity or a ccs covenant assult ship
The Infinity would be awesome. Built by Halsey, three and a half miles long, and fitted with Forerunner tech that humans barely understand.
arf234 I'm not a terribly big fan of Halo 4 but I gotta say the Infinity quickly became one of my favorite starships. Another one I'd love to see would be the Paris class frigate
Halsey did not build the Infinity hell it was nearly finished by the time she came on board, Halsey is an expert on Forerunner technology so Infinity was built by ONI and Halsey oversaw the installation of the Forerunner engines, and that is the reason she was called in Spartan Ops to understand the problem with the Forerunner engines.
infinity is not fucking cannon its a post bungie POS
cropathfinder but everything that comes out of halo that's post bungie is bad.
Why the hell did you use the 2001 model instead of the 2010
They are very utilitarian ships which I actually think is more likely since aerodynamic considerations are completely unnecessary
Neat to see the Autumn. More UNSC ships please.
You think the Pillar of Autumn is big? Try the UNSC Infinity.
you really need to do the unsc infinity from halo 4
Love the size comparisons you guys do. Think it's my favourite part of these
If the captain thinks that the Autumn is big, he should see the Infinity.
Dez Keiz they are all TOO BIG!!! It's a little ridiculous really.
The're is an innuendo to be made there. Haol ships are pretty weird. I prefer alot of their smaller craft. You also have to consider the difference in Bungie designs and 343 designs.
infinity is retarded and all decent halo fans don't consider it canon anyways
I agree 343 fucked things up. I am only referencing the size of the thing.
Dez Keiz you both are quite angry about halo and 343 aren't you? Why is that? And don't give me the whole " 343 ruined halo" I want actually reasons
They didn't even touch on how the hexagon shapes are actually because the whole ship is a honey comb lattice, that why they're beams going through the hallways in the game, it's the armor structure
Also I've noticed they keep bringing up how other sci fi things try to make their stuff bigger then star trek, but that's mostly just because of the logistical nightmare it is to travel in space.
Modern Sci-fi is trying to be a lot more realistic with how long it takes to travel and with that long distance you need food, and other supplies not to mention weapon systems and ammo to keep it from coming back for resupply as little as possible
I mean take the Hermes from the martian it's huge just to shuttle people from mars and earth
Ardail Coffey or the isl (i thing is write like that) the rocket that space x plan to use to go to Mars, that thing is huge, not as huge as this ships of course but still is a behemont to our standards
One of my favorite experiences in all of gaming is driving through it's crashed remnants in the original Halo. You had six minutes before the primary fusion drive blew to smithereens!
Foley: "It's a big ship!"
Foley when he sees the _UNSC Infinity:_ *surprised Pikachu face*
OH MY GOD! One of the ships from franchise that i love more than Star Trek ;)
Beside it is WARSHIP! It doesn't meant to be nice looking but to be a practical.
Perhaps something from Babylon 5 next? You guys are hitting all the cool stuff!
1:40 - 2:12. LOL. This was precisely the response I was hoping I wouldn't get for MY ship that was reviewed. ;) whew!
there bigger then this ship, most ships from U.N.S.C. were colony ships made into war ships when we had colony wars and the human Covenant war
The Spirit of Fire, for example.
dont neglect the unsc infinity which was a ship carrier its self. in the introductory scene to the infinity it drops out of FTL into another ship and keeps going as if it was nothing and drops a fleet of its own.
Vs. scenarios can be tricky. Though this ship is a lot larger I don't see it being a match for any Federation starship. Mass canons would not penetrate shields designed to withstand antimatter and quantum explosions, and trans-phasic energy beams. I imagine a phaser could cut through ships like this like a Shadow ship slicing through a Narn one. Or would deliver "massive" amounts of destructive energy incinerating or "phasing" unshielded conventional metals. The levels of technological sophistication are further apart, I think.
Evan Green Much further apart.
Like lasers in "The Outrageous Okona" that they could fire till their energy banks were depleted and have no effect on the Enterprise's shields, I think mass weapons too would have little effect. Because Halo's more militaristic and the ships are bigger, the brain wants to translate that into toughness, but I suspect that's not the case.
How did you get to those numbers, and what were your reference numbers?
Thing is though, we don't know what an isoton is, and torpedoes travel at ftl and still don't penetrate shields. Also, one *quarter* impulse is .0625c, so most ships could easily outmaneuver attacks, and intercept them with c phasers/disruptors and ftl torpedoes. I kinda wish Trek would show less sophisticated species using railguns and cryogenics and remote droids and a host of other more alien primitive techs. Also maybe hyperdrives and jump gates and stargates and other more sophisticated alien techs too.
Bit of necroposting, but I'm ganna point a couple of things out. Star Trek torpedos are capable of traveling at warp only when fired at warp. They contain miniature warp coils that are energised by the warp field of the firing vessel. When fired sublight, they travel at sublight speeds.
Torpedos and MAC rounds have different destructive mechanims. Torpedos rely on a huge explosion to tear and vapourise, MAC rounds use enourmous amounts of kinetic energy to push through their target. It's possible that Star Trek shields would handle these different destructive mechanims/types of energy with different levels of efficiency.
would love to see red Dwarf in a future episode if possible
David Williams why would they do an episode of a giant red trash can with no brakes and 3 million years on the clock? lol, i hope they do.
we need a 3D model of her to do the episode! If you know of one let us know!
Trekyards reddwarf.wikia.com/wiki/Red_Dwarf_(ship)
best I could find. There's a few other sites but this is the most comprehensive I could dig up
she's a British Sci fi icon and possibly the biggest ship you'll have done
please do Forward Unto Dawn (halo 3 version)
You should look at the UNC Infinity and the CSO-class supercarrier. If you guys are flipping out about that being big, look at these.
Should point out this isn't a standard Halcyon it was heavily retrofitted with prototype tech for a special mission it never got to go on
This 3D rendering is really Bland, the pillar of autumn has a lot of detail to it
Woot! Halo! Great episode, I somewhat anticipated the Captain's reaction haha. If you cycle back to Halo again in the mission briefings, it would be great to see the frigate that Samuel mentioned. Saw it in Reach and loved it.
If i may help, the armor is honeycombed on the inner section of the armor, thats where the 50mm point defense guns are, they are inside the armor
Oh the Halcyon class cruiser, notable for two things, one being the lightest ship to ever cary the cruiser designation...and two, Massively overbuilt honeycombed crossbracing which makes this ship extremely survivable. This particular class is right about in the middle for size of UNSC shipbuilding.
The UNSC Infinity is 5,694.2 meters long, and the biggest "ship" were the CSO - class Covenant Super-carriers which are 28.960 kilometers in length.
Something you never mentioned, is that this ship had rotating sections. As well as a single MAC Cannon. Also, I'm not sure where it is, but there's a physics sheet out there, that talks about the Pillar of Autumn vs the Enterprise D. Consider adding that for an addendum sometime?
Recent watcher, first-time commenter. Halo was one of the first scifi franchises I really loved, but I can understand why Cpt Foley wouldn't be fond of the PoA.
I'd be interested in seeing you guys look at a frigate like In Amber Clad, I always loved the designs of those.
I lik the big honkin' chunk of steel. Form following function makes it more realistic for me.
You guys should look at some of the ships from star citizen.
I would love to see something from Homeworld. Either the pride of Higara, or ideally the great harbour ship of Bentus. The Bentusi really capture my imagination as a race, with a great back story. Homeworld is really a quality sci-fi and an historic computer game. Much underrated.
Homeworld ships would be awesome to see.
I’m kinda surprised you guys didn’t use the halo reach model of the ship for the overview. In my opinion there’s a lot more things on there to give it better scale.
My first thought is that you have to take into account the type of FTL drive the U.N.S.C. uses. The sleekness of a ship doesn't matter as much in slipspace as far as I can tell.
The MAC the Pillar had was not a Super MAC like the one the Infinity has, which is basically an Orbital MAC built into a ship. The MAC the Autumn had was pretty much a regular MAC but modified to fire 3 rounds per shot, & depending on the ship it engaged, it could theoretically take it out in 1 shot, with the first 2 taking down the Covenant shields. Also, the Autumn had a honeycomb design on the inside, along with bulkheads all throughout the ship, so it could take a huge amount of punishment before it would go down. From what I remember, the Halcyon-class (which the Autumn is a part of) was notorious for surviving battles it shouldn't have, with one surviving while having lost 90% of its armor & pretty much venting atmosphere on all decks.
i always thought, from my interpretation of the books that the mac ran dead centerline and fired from the tip of the nose, ie that bit we see extending from the very front. Given the forces to accelerate a bolt of mass to the speeds described sitting such a weapon low and on the corners of the hull sounds like a recipe for disaster
the modern mac on the autumn with its 3 round burst and advanced ammo could handle a star trek ship but the autumn was not maneuverable and that mac, ie the entire ship, had to be faced at its target so in anything but a direct head on duel i'd put it to the faster nimbler trek ship. they can get around behind and put phaser shots in the engines and be done in time for lunch - burning through 2m of Titanium-A battleplate not required
spirit of fire was a colony ship or something. It has combat elements but was not designed for fleet action. Marathon was bigger than the autumn but its a similar design. Infinity is the largest warship.
What about the infinity from halo 4?
We will cover it if there is a 3D model publically available of her to render for the show! :)
Trekyards
(as President Skroob) Good, good. If you wanna talk big...UNSC Infinity is HUGE.. possibly even larger than the Enterprise-J, basically so big that she could ram right through a covenant battleship (as seen in "Halo 4" "Spartan Ops" opening scene.
"It's very ugly"
Yes, that's the point, and I love it.
can you please do battlestar galactica battlestar pegasus or spaceship yomtomato
It only has one MAC cannon, the ship is built around it. The MAC is the single most important piece of hardware on the ship, except maybe for the Slipspace Drive. Also MAC is an acronym for Magnetic Accelerator Cannon.
I flacking love UNSC ships. Just like, in general.
McCbobbish they probably have one if the more realistic looking ships in relation to earth based tech not inspired by any alien technology.
for the record the standard MAC has the same yeld as a photon torpedo but would do more damage do to the fact that more of the energy would be sent directly in to the hull (think HE vs AP tank shells)
could you guys take a look at the pelican for halo cause i think the captin would enjoy it a bit more of maybe the unsc infinity.
Couple of things to keep in mind.
The average mac round generates 64.53 kilotons of energy from one shot of a 600 ton ferric-tungston projectile with a depleted uranium armor piercing core traveling 30 meters per second on impact while a photon torpedo inflicts 64.4 megatons, based on the level of anti-matter it carries,in one shot.
So why does the torpedo inflict so little considering it's tech advantage?
Because people always forget the torpedo is also traveling at low light speeds,in effect it is an armor piercing "bullet"with an explosive charge where the torpedo "dimples"the enemy shield due to it's high speed then detonates putting all that explosive power into a tiny part of the shield greatly straining it increasing the odds of collapse.
UNSC ships use titanium a/50 armor, basically high grade titanium that has been strengthened on a molecular level, decent protection yet still mass producible,so it's likely it would give ok protection from phasers, mass of the armor rather then quality, and virtually none against torpedo's relying on AI controlled point defense guns to protect their ships from them.
The shaw fuki drive, particle beam created black holes etc.., is basically a worm hole generator that opens a "window"aka babylon 5,battle star,etc...
The unsc Infinity is 5,694 m long and has more of everything, including shields more advanced then the covenant's,...THAT is a big ship and without doubt could give star trek ships a run for their money.
For people who say the size of these ships are absurd and unrealistic look up the "orion"pattern plasma pulse driven ships that we can make NOW they not only can be huge it's better if they ARE huge given our tech levels,a matter of quantity over quality.
Hey man the Mac cannons on unsc frigates hit with 22 megatons and a 600 ton slugs the infinity fires a slug that weighs 3000 tons slug and it a has 4 of them I don't get why everyone says they hit with around 60 kilotons check your fact and don't use random blogs I've checked them most are wrong check out the lore
The halcyon class was created prior to covenant war, and was a joke. It's bracing made it super heavy and slow and its armament was puny (even for the time it was built). Spartans were created to fight the rebelling colonies before the covenant showed up. The autumn was upgraded (at ridiculous expense, yet still cheaper than a mjolnir suit) with thousands of missiles and a 3-shot MAC gun (standard 600 ton MAC shot would only take out a covenant ship's shields) with the express goal of capturing a covenant ship. The choice to use a halcyon was precisely due to the bracing, which made the ship extremely hard to completely cripple (which was necessary considering covenant weaponry).
As well the MAC is the huge barrel up top, its a deadly cannon
Mon Capitaine, if you intend to learn more about the ships from Halo as a time saver I'd suggest you watch the game cut scenes from Halo Wars, Halo: Reach, Halo: Combat Evolved Anniversary, Halo 2, Halo 3: ODST (intro scene), Halo 3 and Halo 4 as some-most of those have more scenes of ships in the Halo universe.
(outing my self as a "Super Nerd") When ever I would watch a in game scene of Halo ships fighting each other I used to imagine the Enterprise E come swooping in and saving the UNSC ships, especially in Halo Reach when the Covenant fleet came out of slip space (the scene when the AI voice was saying "Slip space rupture detected. Slip space rupture detected...")
The Pillar of Autumn was an old ship. The construction run was stopped because they were overbuilt due to the honey comb structure. The Spartans were created to fight the insurrectionist.
Due the Yamato Next
Please do a Atlantis class city ship or daedlus class battle cruiser
it actually reminded me of the Rifles in the game.
Would love to the Lef Ericsson, it was going to be a spin off from TOS by Roddenberry. Amt made a model called it ufo. it glowed in the dark. Was influenced at the time by submarines similar to Botany Bay.
i love the halo ships there bulk heavy armed and armored battle ship infinity and spirit of fire are two great ships from this series infinity has shields though
Do the Superdimension Fortress (SDF 1) Macross, from Macross and Robotech, which is at least miles long, transforms into a robot, and has shields, fighters, a city inside it, and a big freaking gun. Some fan renders must exist of it.
The Halo ship reminds me of a Robotech ship. It looks like you have one will minimal detail on the hull.
It saddens me to hear that Captain Foley doesn't like the ship, since I absolutely love the design. But again, compared to the beauty of Star Trek designs, the Autumn is a giant block. In the end, it's all a matter of preference! It was still nice to see you guys cover this one! :)
Maybe you could look at a Covenant ship sometime in the future? Perhaps the CCS class Battlecruiser or CAS class Assault Carrier? Those are the two more recognizable Covenant designs, and they are far more sleek than any UNSC/human ship.
UNSC in terms of time recently colonised planets this is a war ship the ships is built fully round the mac cannon the spirit of fire is a better ship to show him if he dosent like the war ships and if he's surprised by the size of this ship show him infinity or a covenant ship
The MAC cannon itself is built around it, it's actually in the center
love the game .....hate the ship
i am with you Captain!
I'm with Capt Foley to an extent when it comes to the sizes of ships. But one universe just takes the proverbial p. I've always had a problem with the scaling of the ships in halo. There is very little given for any ships in canon, and what gets banded about are the dimension given from some absurd fan chart (where the average height if a human is 7ft). In the anniversary cutscenes you see a pelican loading into the inamber clad. Now I would say a pelican is about as long as an Apache helicopter, give or take a meter or two, most lickly the former - which is 30m in length. I did my own measurement just before the pelican docked, and the inamber clad is roughly 450m meters long. You see a pelican loading into one of these classes through the side, which gives you a good sense of scale compared to the inamber clad, this ship is not much longer than the inamber clad, its height is greater but the length, 50 meters if that. Guys dont use those measurements, the games and cutscenes are a good enough source to those who dont everything to be bigger, because they can make it bigger.
Looks like it would fit well into the Babylon 5 universe as a early Earth Alliance Destroyer
Do the "Truth and Reconciliation" Covenant cruiser from Halo or, the "UNSC Infinity" also the Halo franchise. POA is 1.2km, TaR is 1.7km, Infinity is 5.6km so yeah.
Pillar Of Autumn is 1,170 meters, Forward Unto Dawn is 490 meters. I believe Spirit Of Fire is 2,500 meters, Infinity is 5,694 meters. The Covenant CSO class Supercarrier is 28,960 meters. That's bigger than the Executor class Star Dreadnought from Star Wars (Vader's flagship in TESB), which is 19,000 meters.
None of those sizes are correct. (except the stalwart) A stalwart class is 480m. You see stalwarts flying alongside the infinity in cut scenes. The infinity at most is 7 times the length, which makes the infinity about 3.5km long. The size 343 stated back in 2011.
The ships amazing and its a pure breed warship
This is a ship I was hoping you'd do when you started Fleetyards, thank you. :)
Although I'm not sure if I like the Pillar of Autumn, it worked fine in Combat Evolved but it lost it's charm in the HD remake.
Those aren't the shaw-fujikawa slipspace drives. They`re part of the engines. I wish you had gotten an official model or a better made fan model. That one was a very low poly one lacking much detail found on the real one.
I would like to see serenity from Fire Fly!
the spirit of fire would be good ship to do or even the unsc infinity that sucka i damn huge and has 17,000+ crew and god knows how many vehicles plus it can launch 4 frigates out of the bottom of it, it looks fairly cool and id love to see a size comparision of anything from star trek and any other scifi that has large sized ships
The biggest human ship in halo is over 3 miles long.
I honestly feel there are much better shots of the Pillar of Autumn out there. I think Folley would better appreciate a Halo reach version of this ship. It's much more detailed and comprehensive.
would love to see some of the ships from space battleship Yamato somewhere on the youtube
shields may stop the shell but the impact would ruin the internal framework of the ship it hit
Halo is to Video Games what Star Wars is to Movies and Star Trek is to Television. It is the staple of Space Opera story telling.
I wouldn't mind seeing their opinions of Babylon 5 ships, like the Whitestar or Omega-class Destroyer.
Covenant CSO Supercarrier please. Now THAT, is a big ship.
Parts of the ship seem to be missing with this model.
this fan model lacks so many details D:
in universe this is one of the smaller ships. UNSC Infinity drops(10+ I think) of these class of ships from its lower bays. just to give you a sense of scale.
Also correct me if I'm wrong but, dont MAC rounds ignore/bypass shields?
the infinity actually carry's the strident class heavy frigate which are 575 meters long. but you are right about the number of them.
The Infinity is insanely big for Halo though. It's bigger then pretty much anything but the Forerunner ships.
igammer9999
+SampoPaalanen Infinity is actually about the same size as a Covenant CAS-Class Assault Carrier, and much smaller than a Covenant CSO-Class Supercarrier. Compared to almost every other Covenant/Human ship class in Halo though you are correct, Infinity is bigger.
no mac rounds don't bypass shields, depending on the size ie a frigates round would probable bounce off but damage to the shield, were as say a cruisers could collapse the shield and do damage to the ships hull. but saying that it would really depend on the angle that the round hits at.
It looks somewhat like a caterpillar.
16:00 With Q-enhanced shielding I doubt that HALO's humans could reach the hull with their weapons.
ok guys, little challenge for you. Can you do a fleetyards on the Liberator in Blakes 7
How about the ships from the Starcraft games
it may dwarf the USS Vengeance too :D or not...
Unfortunately the Autumn was kinda meh for me too. Though I do understand why it stuck with Samuel. It was more about the characters for me. I did find a fondness for that thing that looked kinda like a puma.
It would take two or three Mac Rounds to destroy covenant ships. The first one or two rounds to break through their shields and then the second or third round to destroy the ship depending on its size. It would take time to recharge and reload the Mac Cannon's to fire each additional shot. Covenant vessels use plasma cannon's that would melt through human ships in one shot.
maxamus it depend of the ship class if you use a frigate mac its like a rock vs a borg cube and the covenant has shield and the shield is more powerful on a CSO than a CAS so it take more than two or three round it take a ton of mac rounds
The Kushan Mothership in homeworld pls :D
I was almost laughing my head off about the Halo lore inconsistencies.
The difference between Halo and most other ScFi games and universes is the fact that Halo is very grounded in possible scientific theory's. ships and weapons are more realistic and almost all ships have the length, width, weapons and other specs
How about Robotech's SDF-1 from the Macross saga
nice a ship hall shapes is a good set in the game space engineers. but not as big. :)
all so a lot of star trek ship can be found in the work shop on steam, and some with ever deck.
thanks for your too time.
p.s. hope to see some babylon 5 ships? :D
just a thought what about the Agamemnon from Babylon 5
Aw you used the old Pillar model not the MCC model. Also keep in mind Halo CE came out on '01 The design of the ship is a product of the limited hardware of 2001
Yes, yes, yes!
Why is it missing all the turrets?
I think the scale of the Enterprise needs to be a little larger
Oh captain foley I urge you to look at least into the "halo movies" provided by different chanels ... this story, this lore is truly epic!! They could build a nice animated series around it up to a few hundred episodes so far, at least ... and it would be as tight and colourfull as any known sci fi adventure!
And I have to add that's a shame this series had almost no presence on pc.
@Trekyards heh... heh... yeah the MAC guns can tear through shields and destroy ships around 5,000 meters in length in 1-2hits soooo. And depending on the mac gun you make an entire continent uninhabitable for a long while with 1 or 2 shots.
The MAC is center line.
not below the bridge.
This ship was retonned in Halo: Reach and looked way cooler. Shames you guys didn't know it also.
ive played Reach...we only had this 3D model available to be used for the format of the show. In the full episode we will look at the latest version,
Ok thats cool.
According to the Halo lore, The Pillar of Autumn is an old ship. Compared to the In Amber Clad and the Forward Unto Dawn (a frigate a battleship, respectively,) the old Halcyon class cruiser is slow, ancient, underpowered, and underarmored. The new Infinity supercarrier makes the PoA look drunkenly sluggish in comparison.
She's not the best ship but its honeycombed interior makes it able to take quite a hit and still make it home.
Jamie Gray Very true, until she met The Fleet of Particular Justice... And a certain Flood infestation...
yup. a sad waste of a good ship.
Aren't both ships frigates? They're more or less the same size.
Rolomir Fenrir both the in amber clad and the forward unto dawn are charon class light frigates. the pillar of autumn is a ligh cruiser.
The model you chose doesn't do the ship justice. Look at the remastered Halo cinematics or Halo Reach. When you see all the details on the ship it looks much better. The missing details also help with the sense of scale. Starfleet weapons would have a hard time taking out this ship just on sheer mass alone. While the mass drivers and nukes could do some damage to a Galaxy if they could land the hits. The reason for the scale was the limits of technology. They had to carry the fuel, food, cryopods, shuttles (pelicans), fighters, tanks, ammunition, small arms etc for the months they spend in slip space and the years they are deployed. The war took place over decades because of the travels times. So the ships had to be bigger just to feed themselves.
