Why does this man have 5.6k subscribers instead of at least ten times more? He might be the best composer and guitar player alive today. Seriously, talent like this is not something common.

I've heard John Williams and several other virtuoso artists play Sunburst. But to my ears, no one comes even close to the beauty of Andrew York playing his own composition.

I think this is something we often miss in classical music - people paying their own original works. It is something that brings an added element of personal touch to the interpretation, and more musical freedom as there is less of a tradition behind how that piece should be played. Lizt, Bach, Giuliani, Mozart, and many more, they all did this too. Why should classical musicians not continue to do so?

My brother played this at his college graduation at university of Tennessee (Martin) in the late 90’s… He is an adjunct professor there now still teaching guitar. No doubt you were an inspiration in his glide path. And, I damn sure enjoy listening to you when I need to close my eyes and just hit that higher plane. This sir, is absolutely timeless.

Very nice - obviously at 3.17 this turns for a few bars into the very famous Phase Dance - Pat Metheny's signature tune since 1977. Nice to see great guitarists paying tribute to other great guitarists!

Heard this song back in school and just remembered it today at the end of college. Couldn't for the life of me remember the name and searched through my chats because I knew I'd recommended it to my friends back then. This piece still fills me up with pure joy and I think it's one of the supreme achievements of acoustic guitar. Bravo!

Enhorabuena Andrew.

Anyway - one of my favorites performances of this song - he seems pretty happy too at the end! cool!

Andy told an interesting story about the names of this piece. He composed Sunburst and that was the original name.....The famous guitarist Christopher Parkening took a great liking to the piece and wished to record it and include it on his new album...except he wished to call it "Jubilation" (as Chis Parkening was in a religious rebirth phase of his life and the album was also oriented to religious themes)
As Andy tells it, at first he was opposed to the idea (the name was Sunburst).....then Parkening told him about the projected sales and potential royalties, and Andy said "I guess it can be Jubilation" LOL
