several years ago someone local commented online to me that I don't need a get home bag because I fdon't drive, I reminded that person that I ride city buses and I want to be prepared in case I have to start hoofin it when the bus dies and no replacemnt is coming, and that I do not stay home all day and never go anywhere

Yeah it really doesn’t matter if you have a car, if you leave your home, having a bag with some essentials is always a smart idea.

For Pete's sake, babies don't drive and we bring a get home bag for them😄

Past 20 years live in suburban setting, not once has there been an emergency even close to needing to bug out.
Prior 20 years I lived rural, many bug out situations happened. Lost power 10 days (with well that means no water). Wild land fire 13 homes lost near by. I was injured working on the land and spent 3 weeks in hospital, 3 months off work, years building strength back.
Suburban life is pretty nice. I raise a nice garden, can and dehydrate as opportunities rise. Lots of neighbors have extra fruit from there trees.
I have a large group of neighbors that are somewhat prepared. Lots of medical trained individuals, several equipment operators, carpenters, plumbers, and even an electrician.
I store extra bean & rice for when there might be a need with the less prepared.
Rural life is not all roses.

Hey Morgan - great handling of a very common set of false ideas. If, you're in the Williamson County area 3rd Saturday in June our group is having a show and tell - water collection, purification, storage then lunch then waste disposal.

Good points you covered here Morgan, I moved my family away from the northeast side of San Antonio because that part of the city was very dense in population and the roads were blocked in by too many railroad crossings. I understand that the rural areas can be overrun as well, but the area I settled in is relatively safer to ride out a storm.

Morgan, As I was getting my bimonthly taco refried beans and cheese w Diablo Sauce there was an elderly lady (well older than me.)sitting there hungrily watching a mess of squirrels racing around. I thought that she has it figured out. 😅. My yesterday labs said that I don't need to prep for more than the next couple of weeks. 😂 Good Video Rogue. To you and yours... Best

Great video, and I adore your hat! I am a hat person! Thanks for confirming my own opinion about the lifestraw. Sometimes I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't have one. sometimes I feel like I'm the only person who doesn't have one. I do need some kind of water purification for my get home bag but haven't been able to figure out the best one for me. I normally carry 5 gallons of water in my car, so as long as I don't leave the car I'm good. 😄

    1. Thanks. The U.S. is number 8 on the list of countries in the world for severity and occurrences of natural disasters. Better prep.
    2. Lots of ways to filter water, Life Straw is just one. That's a method that is primarily promoted to backpackers who draw water in a container and then use the "straw" to drink from while hiking for miles. It has never been promoted as an only means method to filter water in every scenario. Better get together a system that works for your type of needs.
    3. There have been times in my own life that I was low on food and nothing to buy food with. If I hadn't stocked up when I was able beforehand, I might not have eaten for a while.

You’d be surprised how many times I’ve heard people tell me “I have a life straw” but have zero water storage, no idea how to collect water or any other means of filtering larger amounts of water. That is why I said what I said about life straw. 👍

Well some of your contentions are strawmen and some are oversimplified. Leaving the cities is one. I'm not sure what you think a grid down event would be like but I would rather not be in the the middle of hundreds of thousands vying for the same resources. Is the country a panacea? Not necessarily but it's further away from that conflict. And keep in mind people will not go to rural as a primary tactic and their ability to do so will be resource prohibitive. No fuel, no food. Trying to relocate to a place they have no experience with. Also having a years food on hand is not that hard. Of course a person generally can't just go out and buy that. It's small steps at a time with urgency. I know people that don't have 2 weeks worth of food even though they can afford to store a year. There are a couple points I'm on your side, but some of these others points are not held by a majority of even intermediate preppers. For example, the beans and rice thing. Long term storage is a must and these commodities are essential. As is sugar and flower and canned goods as well as a large assortment of seasonings and flavorings. Your largest prep should be these things. Eating rice and beans for the rest of your life is not why they are there, I agree. But it's a mistake to dismiss them as a primary source of calories. I would include corn but I store that already ground into flour. Making bread is also a necessity. You are not wrong about some giving bad advice. But a true prepper will be able separate the wheat from the chafe. I think the title here is unnecessary hyperbole. Sorry this is so long, I do appreciate what you are trying to do. Keep your nose to the wind!
