Congrats on getting the exclusive on Capes. That is quite an achievement and acknowledgement of your role in providing game-focused content. Great job!
This reminds me a lot of Freedom Force (from Irrational Games) and it's sequel, which was essentially a real-time version of this game, but with a very 1960s Marvel kitschy vibe. If you like the idea of this game, you may want to seek out that one assuming it will still play on modern systems. Last I remember, the Steam version did not, but the GoG version did.
Funny thing about the steam version of that game: the reason it plays so badly is that it loads each individual asset in completely randomly, instead of in the order they’re supposed to be loaded in. So you end up with super wonky and unpredictable glitches. On mine, the camera won’t follow my character and I can’t interact with anything at all. Literally all I can do is click to move, and when I do, it moves me in the wrong direction.
The story seems very "X-Men meets XCOM 2." It's like you're monitoring Cerebro to get to the next mutant to pop up before the Hellfire Club or the Sentinels do---but there's the XCOM 2 angle of "the villains are in control of society, you gotta uncover and expose the horrible stuff they're doing." Doc even seems like kind of an Old Bradford figure.
A lot of people on Steam dislike this game, and the recurrent complaint is that you solve most missions in a specific way. There isn't really room to craft your own strategies. But I've played Deadly Rooms of Death, so I'm familiar with games where you do exactly the right set of steps or else you die. I think I'll buy this.
As someone who is deaf in one ear, never have I cursed the state of audio engineering more than when they figured out audio panning in video games and on audio recordings. Makes me feel like I'm missing half of the conversation everyone else gets to hear. It's an unfortunate situation. Le sigh. lol.
We love you Odd! Your content is spectacular and your idiosyncrasies make it all the more endearing. Hope the channel continues to prosper! Thanks for sharing these types of games; living vicariously through you is always a pleasure.
Hey Daedalic, I am an archery tag provider in Australia and hearing Archery Tag mentioned in a video games put a massive smile on my face, cant wait to play your game.
It looks like a cool videogame, but I feel like they made a mistake saying that Capes would be for the Bronze Age what Freedom Force was for the Silver Age. FF's recreation of the Jack Kirby aesthetic was pitch-perfect - from the character designs to the lettering of the dialogue bubbles - and even the music and dialogue felt right out of that era. Capes's art by contrast just has that generic nonbrand superhero vibe that you get from products like Sentinels of the Multiverse.
Been a subscriber for about 8/9 years at this point. Seeing the channel growth and success, seeing you get exclusives like this...pretty freakin' amazing. This game looks like so much fun. Can't wait for this series.
"You wouldn't know it but this is their first game." Two minutes into it.. it's not that unbelievable. Props to the kids that Frankensteined it together though. If they keep at it and find a way to make their products cohesive, they have just as much potential as anyone else.
Really lucky for me to be able to watch this one on your channel! Love the comic book aesthetic as well as the dark tone you mentioned. Everything looks really awesome and I'm eager to see how things develop with the heros, their powers and the missions. Very awesome to see you get this opportunity, couldn’t be more deserved Odd!! The game sounds and looks sweet, it’s brand new to me so I’m looking forward to the playthrough!
