I took this time for granted. Was kind of awesome to see these two monsters start the same year and battle each other into their primes, before Mourning got sick.
Yeah Alonzo Mourning and Shaq's rivalry started in college, those 2 go back along way and it was Shaq that wanted him and Zo to win a championship together and that is very important and special to the both of them how they're destinies were entwined ❤💪🏿👑🏀
The thing is, we don't know exactly when Zo's health problems started. He might have even been dealing with it back in these days. And the thing about kidney issues is that it zaps your energy; Zo was super energetic and intense---imagine how much MORE intense he would've been if he was 100 percent healthy.
it's such a tricky thing that the best defender of your team is also very good at scoring, so you don't want to risk having him in foul trouble by regularly going against Shaq.
Zo had that combination of strength and quickness to keep Shaq from getting all the way to the basket on his post ups. Pretty impressive considering he's giving up like 4 inches/70-80 pounds to him.
Alonzo Mourning always played much bigger than his 6-10 body. He was really a center playing in a power forwards body. He had long arms, big hands and a powerful frame that slowed him to play much bigger than his height would suggest. I’m a Knicks fan, and I feel like I remember morning always getting Ewing in early foul trouble. I always thought he played Ewing very well, and gave him all kinds of problems on both ends.
I enjoy this type of basketball, 90s era, less friendly more competitive, less threes more mid range shots, transition and post offense etc. hand checking meaning more manly hard defense without hurting opponents compare to today's game, players rely more on threes, soft defense/ slight touch then it's a foul, more pre game antics like kiddie handshakes, too much hugging from players, exchanging jerseys at d game of d game etc... what I'm trying to say is that I love old Skool basketball coz I am old skool😅
Realy miss this nba era when the game is so intense and competitive, today game is really realy really boring, I heard ppl saying today nba is slightly more exciting then netball game
Heat Zo was at his physical peak. He wasn’t Shaq big, but he was big. Underrated matchup. People remember Shaq’s battles against Hakeem, DRob, and Ewing, but forget that Zo was also a big part of the Big Man era.
Chick Hearn was notoriously hyperbolic "Tattooing the floor with the ball" "No harm, no foul, no blood, no ambulance" "King Kong on a ladder wouldn't catch that pass." "...since Hector was a puppy." "They couldn't beat the Sisters of Mercy."
I took this time for granted. Was kind of awesome to see these two monsters start the same year and battle each other into their primes, before Mourning got sick.
Exactly. Compare the basketball with this current soft era. What have they done with the NBA

Zo and Shaq were my favorite big man battle. They went hard
This is When the nba was real 😊
Exactly
what you mean? 2001 ECF was rigged as hell
Loved watching Chick and Stu on KCAL. With weather reports from the lovely Jackie Johnson during the commercial breaks.
Van Axel and Tim Hardaway, two of the best ball handler in the 90's
Man....i miss the 90s
9 years later : The won championship together
They*
It's too bad we never got to see Zo and Shaq go head to head in a playoff series.
But we got to see them win a ring together
It's unlucky that Miami lost by one point to NY in Game 7 in Year 2000, otherwise I think we can see Shaq vs Zo in the Final.
Yet they won Championship together in Miami
Shaq with his patent Black Tornado Spin for the Lob on Zo 3:15. Nice delivery by Van Exel 💥✅
always good battles between Zo & Shaq
Chick Hearn- a legendary commentator
He's the greatest of all time
A rare road loss for the 97 Heat (who went 32-9 away from South Beach)
They played better at home than on the road that season
Alonzo actually defended Shaq reasonably well. Shaq did a lot of his scoring when Zo wasn't guarding him

Zo was like a smaller version of Ewing
Mourning had strong legs, this was a common pattern when it comes to who usually guarded Shaq well consistently.
Zo had that combination of strength and quickness to keep Shaq from getting all the way to the basket on his post ups. Pretty impressive considering he's giving up like 4 inches/70-80 pounds to him.
NBA golden era !!!
Funny how Zo is so big, yet he look do small campared to shaq .. good old nba
Mourning was really strong!

Shaq didn't dominate like he did against most centers. Good game.
9:38: Amazing for a Dude that Big to get back that Fast on the other end of the Court to make a play like that👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿👍🏿
Good, clean, fair battle between the two
Realy miss this nba era when the game is so intense and competitive, today game is really realy really boring, I heard ppl saying today nba is slightly more exciting then netball game
Future teammates going at it
Now that's basketball
How good was Alonzo during the Miami days
A beast. Ask pat Riley, it's seriously on RUclips
Very good. Top 3 in MVP voting and Defensive Player of the Year two years in a row.
8:35 Stu Lantz says "SHIT, WHAT?" I remember a few times during a game Stu would let out a random "Shiiiit", followed by silence lol
You wont see this in the nba now😢😢😢.
Heat Zo was at his physical peak. He wasn’t Shaq big, but he was big. Underrated matchup. People remember Shaq’s battles against Hakeem, DRob, and Ewing, but forget that Zo was also a big part of the Big Man era.
Chicky Burger... God i miss him!
Kobe 11:51
CHICK! Still miss him so much.
Zo was battling. He needed help.
90s NBA was so HARD not SOFT like today's NBA so SOFT...
Both in their prime! Only mourning, b Wallace and Rodman were able to successfully defend against Shaq
Put Robinson in there as well
Agree , another great center. Shaq had to truly battle it out. Ewing held Shaq to under 20. Hakeem. Damn I miss the nba , 1980-2010
Brian Grant was relatively unknown but he can defend shaq reasonably well.
좋은 영상 감사합니다
👍
Mourning is my favorite Center of all time, but as you can see here Shaq was just the better player.
the game with hand checking is so much different, no such thing as an open 3 pointer
the hyperbolic commentator. 🤫😊
Chick Hearn was notoriously hyperbolic
"Tattooing the floor with the ball"
"No harm, no foul, no blood, no ambulance"
"King Kong on a ladder wouldn't catch that pass."
"...since Hector was a puppy."
"They couldn't beat the Sisters of Mercy."
Oh my seeing Chuck Hern again
There would’ve been 100 fouls/game if they called the game back then like they do in this soft-ass era.
Damn! Shaq did a reverse. Wooooh
NBA rim needs to be 11 feet already.
at least he didn't have to guard 2001 shaq...until later
Best center nba alonzo and sgaq
Zo sucked.
Shaq won this one on one matchup in passing and efficiency.
At peak performance, Shaq is The GOAT!❤ The three pointer has ruined the nba.🫤
It’s just bad optics. If you don’t care, then why should the guy sitting on his couch watching the game care. It will make fans tune out.
who can guard shaq in todays NBA?
Seth Curry
seth curry hahahahhahah
Nobody
Who could Shaq guard in todays’s NBA?
Where's Kobe
Shaq shouldn't be beefing. For wat? One of the biggest mfer ever.
too much crap on the screen???
😢😢both announcer's have pass on REST EASY
Stu Lantz is still alive.
so defrent from today bad nba ///real basketball no travling no tatto no silly show of / good old basketball
