    i like that you pointed out the too bright issue. something a lot of people dont grasp is that if its too bright and you are indoors you are just blinding yourself and defeating the purpose.

    hey, i appreciate ur vid. I have L3 Illumination L10. Twist on/switch modes/off. It is small in size (1x AA), worked great before it broke (2 months old). Emailed the company for warranty repair, no response!
    Now I am going back to Fenix flashlights, they are build tough... I still have one over 10 yrs and works fine.

    Picked up the Thrunite 1AV3 for Christmas and I have to say that I really like this flashlight. I should note it's my first "modern" flashlight, my older light which is now in my pack was a 2xAA Maglite with an old fashioned bulb.

    It's by no means a small flashlight but I'm still rockin' the Klarus XT11S. Clipped in my pocket whenever I leave the house! Nice lineup and vid!

    Just the video I've been waiting for. I've been a bit hesitant on picking up a good flashlight, mostly because there's so many out there, ya know? This really helped!

    Hi,
    As I work with some chemical products, what torch you suggest?
    The most important details are:
    - made in metal
    - lens in glass
    - no plastic parts.
    Thanks in advance and best regards,
    Pedro

    The Manker E-11 is my new favorite light.
    Claims to put out 400 lumens with a sanyo eneloop pro. 800 with a good 14500.
    Its a really bright solid light at only $30.
    The light hasnt left my pocket since i received it.
    Great review, awesome lights.

    I have three or four of the L3 Illumination L11C lights, Ben. I like them also because they come in several colors and add to my edc through color coordination. Nice comparison video Ben. I carry the eagletac D25C Ti in pocket at work(at a major medical center). I have the D25 A Ti , as back up, in a maxpedition belt pouch with my cell phone, wallet, bullet space pen. I find I prefer the shorter format of the CR 123 battery for pocket carry. Outside of work, of late, I have been carring the olight S1 Baton Ti finish in a neutral white tint. You can twist the pocket clip dirrectly over or just next to the switch to act as a switch guard. I've found it to be very effective in stopping accidental in pocket activation! However, in defense of the twisty, I keep a thrunite Ti3 on my night stand so the click of a switch won't wake up the wife. I also have a solarforce L2P next to the alarm clock for times where creating a disturbance is not a concern!

    nice review, i subscribed, very nice lights, many of them cant be found in my country (Romania) and buying from USA is a nightmare.
    may i suggest Manker E11 as an edc and Manker T01 vs2 as a little thrower? both single AA. E11 is moded with a better dedoomed driver. yet my favorite single aa is S1A Baton, i love that perfect large circle.

    For my edc needs, which are not very demanding, my Ti3 does the job and it's so easy to carry. I really like having a very low lumen mode in a versatile pocket carry light. And just in case I was to get myself into a situation where I needed extra run time, I carry a spare AAA, in a piece of straw (insulation), in an Altoids smalls tin (with other items). A AAA will fit, tightly, in a milkshake straw.

    I EDC an Eagletac D25A Clicky along with a OLight S1A Baton. Both have worked well for me. I prefer the Tail Switch on the D25A Clicky over all side switches & it's never accidentally turned on in my pocket. If the OLight S1A Baton had a Tail Switch, it would be the Perfect EDC Light IMHO.

    I love my Thorfire penlight PF04 (2 AAA). Cheap, bright and been through the wash a few times, no problems. I also use the single mode Streamlight Stylus pro, but I had to change the tail switch because you can't turn it on/off with your thumb, you have to use the tip of your finger. Fenix though, makes the toughest, brightest light I have

    D25C 219 is fantastic. I just wish the moonlight was much lower, close to the L3's. It heats up quickly on turbo, but there's a reason why these Eagtacs are more expensive. Eagtac is top of the line and they place their LEDs deeper than most, giving you good throw for the size/diameter. Almost Zebralight standard, but slimmer, lighter and better throwing.

      you mean the small cheap lights they sell everywhere? that has the 3 aaa that go into the small plastic cage then slide into the light?
      I do not think you can replace it with a single battery, it will not hold up to any kind of lithium rechargable, but you should be able to purchase NiMh aaa batteries to put in it.

    Nice video.
    You should try Silkhunt DS-16 (my current favourite single 14500/AA size flashlight), it can use both 14500 and AA (Alc or Ni-MH), with max lumen of 500. It have low battery indicator and is IPX8. It looks something like Olight S1A, but with cooling fins, which I believe will be far cooler to handle for prolong use. It has a removable magnet below. I bought it from fast tech for around US$32.
    I recommend that you give it a try. But, if you don't want to risk spending your money or time on it as you may not like it, you can see a reviews of it first. Which I had done a review of it, on my channel some times back or you can see the review of it on other people's channel.

    Let me start off by saying I enjoy your channel. I do however question your decision to call this video Top 5 EDC Flashlights (AA). Maybe you should have called it Top 4 AA EDC Flashlights and My Favorite "AA sized" Flashlight. I know you put a lot of work into your channel and I appreciate it but I felt your decision to include a light that didn't fit the AA category and then declare it your favorite (which of course your right) was a little misleading. That being said, keep putting quality content and I'll keep watching and supporting the channel.

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  8 лет назад

      the one that isn't AA is still sized like a AA unlike the S1 by Olight that is a little bigger than a CR123A. Size was how I compared these like my last video with keychain lights. Not all were AAA but in the same size category.

    Every time I try carrying a small flashlight that is a side switch activated light, it invariably ends up turned on in my pocket, or clipped to my pocket. I don't know what it is, but apparently my pocket is a sexy place to be if you are a side switch flashlight. So I'm glad to find out about the L3 Illumination L11C. That has a deep pocket clip and no side switch. Something I may have to order. Thanks!

    Would have liked to have seen a D25A in there, instead of the D25C. It would have been a better comparison. One thing I try to stress to people when choosing an EDC light is to go with AA or AAA. The common battery type is more practical in both terms of availability and cost. If you want the li-ion performance you go with a light that can handle a 14500.
    I have plenty of 123 and 18650 lights, and I love them. They perform better in almost every way. However, my main light for true EVERYDAY carry is an AA light, because the common battery type will make it easier for you to acquire batteries in an emergency, especially if you are away from your stockpile of batteries at home. I learned this the hard way, twice!

    Dunno anybody who uses a lanyard. Am looking for a side switch light with a hole for a split ring in the tail cap so I can carry it in my key chain, don't like too much stuff in my pockets and I have too much crud on my belt already. Leaning towards an Olight.

      there are many lights from nitecore, olight, thrunite, ultratac that have split rings that come with them.

    I have had a Fenix PD25 for years and it is just about perfect. For some reason, I thought I would try the Olight S1A and I absolutely HATE the fucking thing. It has a few more features but ends up just being gimmicky. The interface is super clumsy and clunky and for the $800 or whatever it was I paid for it, it just sits in my bag as a backup.

    Ben you are forgetting the best and least expensive AA EDC - The Thrunight T10!!!!! and bring back Kristen will ya!

  • @DinnerForkTongue

    I'd personally swap the Archer for the T10. Easier to use, just as nice fit and finish, and a lot more budget-friendly at 25 bucks.
    But then, I guess you didn't receive it for review.

      very true, I forgot about that one. I would carry that over the 1av3 as well. thanks!!!

      i had the t10t but i gave it to my sister. went with the neutral tint. i like that it was only 3 modes. wish it had the same ui as the eagletac so i could always get it to turn on in high first.
      i also wish it could run 14500's so i could get it brighter. the price is good and its an attractive light. mine came with the diffuser which i really liked. it carried well, especially with the nice low ride pocket clip.
      the performance with eneloops was average. i did like the neutral tint over the cool tint on my 1a v3. my sister needed a light and she liked it more than the 1a v3. the diffuser and tint really sold her so i gave it to her.
      i actually liked that it was a little longer than my d25a ti and similar shape, but the tailcap switch was a little awkward depending on how you grabbed it. it could tailstand though, but that made it harder to access the switch for me.
      it was less than half the price of my d25a ti so i HAD to try it.

    i bash the archer 1a v3 every chance i get and praised the tn12 for years LOL. its the baby tn12! i didnt know it could run 14500's until yesterday and that made it a lot better. DAMMIT i wish someone would make a deeper carry pocket clip for this light. without the 14500 i dont like the tint.
    i really like the tint on nichia 219b's so much. i really like that l11c. the pocket clip looks great! i need to give that another look actually and pick one up. 14500 thoughhhhh!
    interestingly the pocket clip from the 1a v3 fits on the mi7 and will carry nice and low! i saw it on another channel man, try it out. it may win you over. i think im going to pick it up actually and get some more 14500's. ive had good luck with the fenix 14500 button top.
    im not the wildest about my s10r so i never got the s1a. i do like the magnetic tailcap but it annoys me in my pocket also. i had a few accidental activations with my s10r so i loosen the tailcap and have to double click after tightening it...carrying it like that is pretty annoying so it lives on the microwave or the fridge. ill grab it if i go in the yard or go under a car or something.
    ohhhh the eagletac d25c ti with nichia 219b is my love. i love it so much i bought the d25a ti but the nichia 219 was sold out so i settled for the xpl. ive had a few accidental activations but not many and i always carry one or the other. favorite lights lately. the ti models do get hot very fast...cuz i leave them on turbo haha. i do step it down when it gets warm though. FAVORITE ui.
    i. need. mode memory. id rather switch it myself. of course im a turbo first guy.
    really glad you made this video. i was going through the single aaa kick when you were doing that series and i got my collection to my satisfaction. been on the single aa kick ever since. problem is i keep finding myself chasing brightness so instead of using all these eneloops i love so much im throwing 14500's and 10440's in everything and then they get hot so i need to step it down or pull out another light. the d25c is fine for that though!
    ill be back to 18650's when it gets cold out haha. i still grab an 18650 light when i know ill need long runtimes. my tn12 is in my fleece right now with 2 back up panasonic 18650s
    d25c with the nichia 219 is GREAT. i think its my overall favorite.

    Looking at the Nichia on the white wall, they are yellow as hell, NOT neutral. "Daylight", depending on who you talk to, is either 5000K or 5500K. THAT is Neutral. 30yrs as a professional photographer and 15 years as a color print specialist gives me more than a little insight on the matter. The problem is, these reviews are almost invariably done by men...and most men are at least a little color blind. Consequently what YOU see as "neutral" is probably just compensating for your eyes. Want to really know what light looks neutral, ask your wife or girlfriend. Only 1% or so of women show any degree of color blindness. Don't believe me, look it up!

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  7 лет назад

      so as a photographer then you would know that the lens sees a different picture than your eyes unless your settings are compensating. i'm not a camera expert unfortunately.

    All these high tech flashlights are nice but good ol' USA made led maglites are more than sufficient. Both the aa and 3 dcell options are bullet proof. Mine have fallen off of roofs and been run over by trucks and other equipment. I do not think these high tech flashlights can stand up to that.

    • @livingsurvival
      @livingsurvival  8 лет назад

      these are just as bulletproof and also IPX-8 waterproof which to my knowledge maglites are not.

      Living Survival I've gotten my maglites pretty darn wet and they keep on working. For whatever its worth my edc consists of a 6" colt trooper in a shoulder holster, a buck 110, a supertool 300, leather work gloves, a klein 6in1 driver, aa mini maglite, benchmade 940, a zippo, my wallet, keys with a maglite solitaire and a little victorinox on them, a watch and my cellphone. However my job and lifestyle is different than most.

      No they're not, Ben, you're very much right. They're IPX-4 at best.

    • @livingsurvival

      the s1a certainly does have a lockout. give the tail cap a 1/8 turn and you are locked out. i actually prefer that method rather than an electronic lock like the mi7.

    • @livingsurvival

      it is for sure a lockout and like i said i prefer it. some lights wont do that without unscrewing the cap all the way. the s1a does.

    • @knifedrago
      @knifedrago 8 лет назад

      Not again, lockout was invented to prevent unscrewing the cap in the first place. Unscrewing, basically it's an old technique used before the lockout was invented.
