What a great book haul :) I live near the french border and i am fluent in french so i often go to France and buy books :) Now i can't wait my next visit to France!
Love that Ulysses edition. I’ve been getting into James Joyce recently. I finished Dubliners last week and I’m a chapter into portrait and I’m loving it.
Those books made of paper of good quality, and Gallimard is just the most prestigious publisher In France, They also have a collectors' version of selected authors called Pléiade, authors both French and foreign, such as Camus, Mondiano, Hemingway, all with old school binding and their signature font. Or, the Soleil edition, cloth cover and "reliure'" binding, but they're kinda hard to find right now.
Je suis trop contente de tes découvertes, ta passion pour la littérature et le français est très inspirante ! Les librairies à Paris sont magnifiques et j'adore les quais pour les bouquins ❤
Hey buddy! Great excursion. Just wanted to say that I hope you're safe out there as Paris is in a bit of an upheaval at the moment. I suggest for your next travels abroad to two places in Wales, England - Hay on Wye in Wales, and Gladstone Library in Hawarden, North Wales. They are both a literary paradise.
It is so funny that your friend keep on saying for decoration!! Wow, it is so wonderful you can read French!! I would love to be able read French poetry!
I don’t know the full story of what’s happening (discussions about it seem to be very complicated and you fall on one of two extreme ends of a spectrum) but I hope everyone in France is doing well and is safe 👍

you should make a video about Paris bookstore...I went once in Paris, with "Paris Litteraires", book I recommend if you can read in french, a lot of little stories about famous writer, their address...the book is from Francois Busnel, a book about all the bookstore in Paris, and I spend the week visiting the differents bookstore ( L'écume des pages is a must) ...and discover a lot of little neighborhood in Paris I wouldn't without this book
Robin, are you also interested in Sartre's literary work? I'm talking about works like the Age of Reason (from his famous trilogy), his short stories, plays and novels?
For a higher CTR, if that's something you want to optimize for, I would change the title to "Why I Flew to Paris to Buy Books" and also cut the "A book haul" thing.
Hey Robin! I love your videos and I'd just like to share that I too am on a vacation to France, and came across a bookshop ran by an ex professor in Philosophy (David Aiken) and bought some books, Camus, Kierkegaard and one about the Presocratics, ''as a gift'' he said, because I'll study philosophy next year. Just a funny little thing, I thought. Oh yeah, my name is Vic as well, like your crew member at 1:50 :) Kind regards !👋
NO Robin! NO! You may NOT get "sick" of Ulysses. That's where I draw the line. How dare you! That's Saint J Joyce you"re talking about! (just kidding.) love, Bra.
Hi, Robin. I love your posts, but I haven't seen too many lately for some reason. Please refresh my memory. Are you in college or graduate school? You mentioned studying French. What are your majors? Are you an Australian citizen, or do you just go to school there? I am very impressed by your breadth of interests. I look forward to your reply. Regards from an old retired organic chemist who is interested in many things.
Hi Anthony! I’m currently completing my honours year in Literature before a PhD. My schedule’s a bit crammed at the moment but new videos are on their way in video essay forms (they’re longer and more thoroughly researched so that’s why I haven’t been posting consistently). And yes I’ve been an Australian ever since I moved to Melbourne when I was 12. :)
@@RCWaldun Congratulations on your academic success. I think you will love working on a Ph.D. I earned a Ph.D. in Organic Chemistry (Purdue University) many years ago. My graduate school years were some of the best years of my life.

Robin, your accent is American yet you're Melbourne based. Interesting. However, why buy books for decoration? And did you visit Wilde's grave for inspiration? Simone de Beauvoir didn't know her classmate Simone Weil yet became Nelson Algren's lover, quite ironic n'est ce pas?

Agreed. It’s also why I love the Fitzcarraldo Editions. The covers look so elegant and allows the text to speak for itself.
