It feels like Feige is trying to make lighting strike twice and turn Kang into another Thanos-level threat. Kang has the notoriety of being in multiple timelines so it's a lazy way of being able to connect a lot of these forgettable tv shows and movies and suddenly make them all mean something by having Kang as their common thread. Problem is that, with Phase 4, many people stopped watching everything MCU and if you didn't watch Loki then suddenly you can't understand why that is suddenly relevant now.
What made Thanos work so well was the anticipation. From the first Captain America and the reveal of the Tesseract, theories abound that this was an Infinity Stone in the possession of Red Skull. Then the Avengers movie with Loki as the main villain and we get that brief shot of an obscured Thanos talking with Nebula. Then Avengers 2, Dr. Strange, Guardians of the Galaxy etc all confirm that the MCU is covering the Infinity War and practically every movie swelling up to a confrontation with Thanos. There is none of that with Kang. We've been given the carrot with Loki and Quantumania, and now we're expected to follow a stick hidden among subpar movies contributing absolutely nothing to the MCU or the overarching narrative. The entire plot of Love & Thunder could've been a 5 minute flashback sequence when Thor shows up in an Avengers movie, to explain how he is back in fighting form ready to put the beatdown on Kang. That movie was unnecessary, and worse, wasted a potentially usable supervillain, All-Black the Necrosword, to introduce Symbiotes and Knull in Phase 27 quadrillion at this rate.
But... Kang *did* have a motivation, to purge universes that contain a potentially dangerous Kang variant, the irony being that *he* is one of the most dangerous variants, thinking he's doing the right thing by preventing other Kangs from leaving their universes and causing chaos. Did I get the wrong impression from the movie, or did nobody else catch on to that?
The problem with Kang is Marvel already introduced a larger than life villain in Thanos, with all that CGI greatness. And Kang is just a dude in purple. No matter how manacing the actor might try to convey, he just seems small in comparison.
Great video and well written, but i have to say it only goes top prove who the movies are made for.... it was definitely geared towards the hardcore fans, Kang for example you said you didn't understand his importance, whereas I who know him (and multiple selves (PCS) ) from the comics understood quite literally everything about him, and in fact I'd even say that they didn't do heavy exposition on him specifically yet because he's not actually gone, the kang we see here WILL be back as the main and final kang in secret wars probably (hence the ending monologue). Thats also why everything seems to still be the same for the characters at the end because that how Kang wants it to be, they (the avengers) shouldn't be progressing in their quest. So Kang dynasty most likely put scott in an alt timeline where everything is "just the same" as if noting happened or will happen. I dunno I think as a fan (which is who the movie is made for) then you will see and understand a lot more of the story of the film and whats going on all together.
Yeah I think MCU is heading into obscurity again with all these "for the fans" stuffs. At least until Kang Dynasty and Secret Wars that people starts to flocking in again, especially if they brought back previous actors in all Marvel films
I thought the titular Wasp was going to be Jan but then she acted completely out of character from the last film and never suited up or did anything in the final act.
I think MCU forgot that it has never got this much attention (especially from RUclips lol) before IW and Endgame. I've never heard people talking constantly about how great Captain America: The Winter Soldier is or how awful Iron Man 3's twist is. Both IW and Endgame are peak MCU... critically and publicly. But when you rewatch Endgame now, you'll realize it's a flawed 3 hours long movie, at least not as good as IW. People flock into theaters to watch IW and Endgame because of the hype and novelty, and FOMO. Many people who never watched MCU films before watch IW solely because it's a hot topic and novelty in CBM genre
Whether a movie is good or bad depends upon the writing. If the script is bad, there's nothing you can do afterwards, you're basically polishing a turd. A lot of the Marvel scripts they've been churning out are just not that great, but no one at Marvel seems to point that out. It's like they just don't care anymore, and if they don't care, then why should we?
I completely agree with your points. It felt like character, plot and direction were all set aside to try and make Kang as scary as possible. The quantum realm characters had decent screen time, yet they didn't seem to have much personality. I'm a big fan of Doctor Who, where some battles are won purely through conversation. Going from that to this movie where they have plenty of chances to explain but never do was kinda frustrating. Perhaps Janet should have been left behind or separated early on instead of just not communicating
Absolutely agree. Although I will say, I admittedly REALLY loved the goo guy who wanted holes. Either way though, I have such mixed feelings on what they did with Janet's character. Rather than being articulate, they just made her character mysterious for the sake of egging you along.
I have an answer to all the comments below. Stop watching! Its that simple. I enjoyed the movie. I felt this was a huge level up from the 1st 2 Antman movies. Kang was awesome. Jonathan Majors killed it. We got to see the inside of the quantum realm. which was cool. Bill Murry was great as Krylar. Ya'll def still stuck with the BS of the past dawg.
It’s shit writing while pushing the message. Here’s an example, Wanda vision was suppose to have a 2 minute cameo of Dr. Strange. We didn’t get that because they said it would shadow Wanda in a show all about her. That’s fine but then comes out Dr. Strange 2 that’s suppose to be a sequel to Dr. Strange and a movie about him. What was Dr. Strange in the multiverse of madness aka MOM. It was all about Wanda, that’s the logic we have here. Men will over shadows women but the sequel to that man’s own movie is all about said women. How tf does it make sense and that’s just 1 things I’m pointing out. Side note Scott Lang has not had a movie about him. First was about stopping Hank pins apprentice gone evil and the relationship of his daughter. The second was about hanks wife and the wasps mother. The third movie is about Hank Pim wife time in the quantum realm. I didn’t care to watch the third so I’m basing it off of little clips.
dude... thor love and thunder made me so sad. To see thor and the mcu in general become a shell of what it used to be is such a bummer... also I gotta say.. I keep seeing you in the comments and it means the world to me that you continuously support my endeavors with kind words and by watching in general! Thank you so much friend! I look forward to our next exchange!
@@BillyCabinsYT still watching ur content cause i mean its really good lol i hope u can grow a steady community on youtube man. i'll make sure to make a stupid remark in the next video aswell, you cant get rid of me💀
I got 3 things to say about this movie. 1 it was so ooo boring I almost fell asleep like 5 times, I don't care how much action, jokes, etc you have if the stories not interesting and the characters are flat its a soulless slog. 2 The actor for kang did great hes a very good Kang. 3 The only scene I thought was interesting and actually engaging was at the very end when Scott was contemplating whether killing kang was the right thing to do cause he never thought about it before he did it. I thought that was actually a great question of like even if something looks real bad maybe it could be worse but if you rush into things you might just screw yourself and the world around you. Overall pretty shit movie, liked your vid
I genuinely couldn't care about cassie and the recast did not help. Seeing Scoot and Cassie reunite after 5 years was heartbreaking. The actress did a good job for the 5 secs that she was onscreen. Here cassie is just another child genius like riri, shuri, peter, (ned maybe) .she's just annoying. Yondu and Starlord had that Amazing dad-son moment they could have done that here given avanger-dad is a very relatable guy. His contribution depicted in terms of just cgi actions rather than Paul Rudd's acting takes away any stake or excitement. The other 3 guys are meh. MODOK should not have been treated as a joke and Jonathan Majors in a amazing actor. But Kang is kinda meh what is his aim ?
I get that this had big expectations going into it but as a third Ant-Man film, I liked it. It had the same humour I enjoy and Paul Rudd is still very good. I also did like the introduction to Kang. Johnathon Majors was great and was an imposing new threat. But with some of the execution for what this movie did for the MCU going into phase 5 as a whole, it definitely stumbled a bit. Still, I had a good time with it!

Yea they definitely fucked up on phase 4

Lazy writing and the frequent call for deus ex machina ruined it and most of phase 4. They're not handling the multiverse well.
just let 'em cook... but yeah I agree LOL

Yeah, I tend to agree with all of this tbh. Especially the thing about Cassie being another child genius...
Ngl I'm probably in the minority that liked it. Yes it had flaws but it wasn't worth the 43% on rotten tomatoes I give it like maybe a 7/10
Not at ALL! That 40-ish percent is WAY too low... especially considering they've given worse mcu films MUCH higher scores
@@BillyCabinsYT I would say maybe like a 63% imo
The mcu is a tv show and this is a filler/exposition episode
tbh that always how I've thought of the mcu well said
