Two deeply soulful guys who first appeared on my musical radar at the same time in the late fall of 1968; each with songs that would eventually be recognized as classics but were slow to get noticed in the US: Joe Cocker with his astounding Beatles cover "With a Little Help from My Friends"; and Tony Joe White with his down-home Louisiana swamp-rocker "Polk Salad Annie." I would hear the latter on Nashville's WLAC, but it took until the following summer for it to catch on nationally.
I just made and made a wish that Uncle Joe might have sung this tune in performance,,,,G1od Bless you Joe and Tony ,,,I got my wish!!!!! This tune was tailor made for Uncle Joe !!!!!
No not wrong at all. Two underrated guys singing an icon and you remembering your mates in Nam. Beautiful. II’m 80 so hopefully you are still around at 72 And enjoying life as best you can and not too many bumps in the road and they only multiply and grow bigger, damn those Councils eh! Haha.
This has to be the best rendition of Rainy Night in Georgia. I had tickets to see Joe Cocker at the launch of his Mad Dog and Englishmen tour in Detroit in 1970. I had tickets for the Saturday night second show. Never saw him. People from the first show refused to leave. This is a great example of why.
yes. one of the greatest songs in pop music..brook benton first.. great rendition.. soulful. straight to the heart..RIP joe and tony joe..
May be the most beautifully painful song ever written and sung.
Both. Gone Now. This song always bring tears to my eyes, Is that wrong? Honor my brothers lost in Nam, 70 now may be joining you soon.

This is a killer version , I tear up every time I hear it no matter who sings it. I always think of families who lost loved ones.
I have that same reaction, my son especially and myself 🙏🏻but my favorite is Brook Benton you know he went through this🙌🏻
I would give anything to have been there. Two giants doing what they do best.
